Hello, fans of good music. Today, like every Tuesday (although it’ll already be Wednesday by the time this post goes live) on my Hive Blog, I’m bringing you another collection of three special songs chosen from one of my favorite Rock bands. A band that’s really resonated with me ever since I was just a preteen. I’m bringing this collection to you thanks to the weekly contest in this Music community called “Three Tunes Tuesday,” hosted by the great @ablaze.
Returning to the Nu Metal and Rap Metal subgenres we’ve already explored with Linkin Park, this time we’ll be talking about the darker, more street-level side of that genre: Limp Bizkit. A Rap and Metal band that has left its mark on an entire generation since its inception in the late ’90s. Aside from their powerful and explosive sound, the band is also known for its raw, aggressive, and direct lyrics. Even so, I first discovered them—along with most of the rock bands I’ve mentioned so far on my Hive Blog—when I was a teenager.
I know that this time around, not everyone will like the songs I’ve picked out for you below. Honestly, I’ve chosen them from a relatively short list of well-known Limp Bizkit songs that I used to listen to as a teenager—I repeat—and whose meanings I didn’t understand until recently, I confess. But even so, I’m going to talk about them simply because they’re part of that memorable past of mine. Still, if you have any recommendations or songs you think are worth checking out, let me know.

Hoy, como todos los martes (aunque ya será miércoles a la hora que suba esta publicación) en mi Blog de Hive, les traigo una colección más de tres canciones especiales escogidas de una de mis bandas favoritas de Rock. Una banda que resonó bastante en mi subconsciente desde que era apenas un preadolescente. Esta colección se las traigo a ustedes gracias al concurso semanal que hay en esta comunidad de Música titulado Three Tunes Tuesday que nos trae el grande de @ablaze.
Regresando al subgénero Nü y Rap Metal que hemos conocido ya con Linkin Park, esta vez hablaremos del lado oscuro y más callejero de dicho género: Limp Bizkit. Una banda de Rap y Metal que ha marcado a toda una generación desde sus inicios a finales de los años 90. Aparte de su fuerte y explosivo sonido, la banda también es conocida por su letra cruda, agresiva y directa. Aún así llegué a conocerlos junto con la mayoría de bandas de Rock que les he hablado hasta ahora en mi Blog de Hive cuando era adolescente.
Sé que en esta ocasión no a todo el mundo le gustarán las canciones que les tengo preparadas a continuación. Honestamente las he escogido de entre una lista no grande de canciones conocidas de Limp Bizkit que escuchaba de adolescente, repito, y que no conocía su significado hasta hace poco, lo confieso. Pero aún así pienso hablarles de ellas por el simple hecho de que forman parte de ese pasado tan memorable que tengo. Aún así, si tienen alguna recomendación o canción que creen que vale la pena, me la comentan.

Let's start with a very well-known song by Limp Bizkit—it was actually one of the first and only songs I ever heard by the band when I was a teenager. "Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle)" is the second single from their fourth studio album, Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water (2000). The song was one of the first to become so popular that it won multiple awards thanks to its powerful sound and unique blend of Hip-Hop and Metal. Even today, more than twenty years after its release, it’s still playing everywhere, including in series like Devil May Cry (2025).
The lyrics to “Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)” simply convey the main message that Limp Bizkit sought to share with the world upon the album’s release. It’s a song that encourages us to express ourselves energetically, offering a curious instruction in its lyrics such as “raise your hands, step back, and keep moving forward.” The word “rollin’,” which is constantly mentioned in the song, can be interpreted as “keep moving forward” or “keep rolling.” This translates into a motivating and powerful lesson to carry on with our lives, to keep moving forward regardless of problems and obstacles.
The song also carries a defiant message for those who oppose the path Limp Bizkit is showing us. This can be interpreted as referring to those who are always against our decisions or our dreams and goals in life. To counter this, we simply need to do what the song tells us: “‘cause if you don’t care, then we don’t care.” This may mean that if others don’t care about what we want to do with our lives, then we don’t care what others say either. This defiant, rebellious, free-spirited, and explosive attitude is what the band has conveyed to us ever since with this song.
Empecemos con una canción muy conocida de Limp Bizkit que fue justamente de las primeras y únicas que he escuchado de la banda cuando era adolescente. Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle) es el segundo sencillo del cuarto álbum de estudio titulado Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water (2000). La canción es una de las primeras en popularizarse a tal punto que se llevó múltiples premios debido a su fuerte sonido y su particular mezcla de Hip-Hop con Metal. Aún en la actualidad, más de veinte años después de su lanzamiento, sigue sonando en todas partes, además en series como Devil May Cry (2025).
La letra de Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle) es simplemente el mensaje principal que Limp Bizkit buscaba transmitir al mundo desde el lanzamiento de este álbum. Es una canción que incita a expresarse enérgicamente, dándonos una curiosa instrucción en su letra como “alzar las manos, retroceder y seguir adelante”. La palabra “rollin’” que constantemente se menciona en la canción se puede interpretar como “seguir adelante” o “seguir girando”. We continue with another famous and unmistakable song by Limp Bizkit that made history by bringing us a sound that has stood the test of time for generations due to its impact and influence on both the music world and even the world of cinema. “Take A Look Around” is the third single from the album Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water (2000). Aside from its iconic intro, the song has also become quite popular since it was featured in the movie Mission: Impossible 2. Its unmistakable sound, which blends Rap with Metal, was what I loved about it back then.
“Take A Look Around” speaks to us about hate—an emotion that has become all too common in this world plagued by chaos, wars, and all kinds of experiences and injustices. The song conveys a kind of critique of society and its tendency to react violently to anything it “doesn’t understand” or isn’t familiar with. The lack of love, empathy, and understanding today has intensified even more than when this song was released, and that—I believe—makes it much more relevant now. The loud, explosive, and violent sound heard in every chorus is a manifestation of that sentiment.
The song also serves as a form of self-reflection when we hear lines like “I don’t even know what I should say” or “I analyze every second I exist, beatin’ up my mind every second with my fist,” which may signify a state of self-analysis and self-criticism stemming from how little one knows or feels due to society’s lack of morality and emotion. It’s as if the singer is trying to ask us to look around and recognize what’s really wrong in our lives so that we can figure out what to do or say. Honestly, I thought Limp Bizkit’s songs were more intense.
Seguimos con otra famosa e inconfundible canción de Limp Bizkit que hizo historia al traernos un sonido que ha pasado a la posteridad por generaciones debido a su impacto e influencia tanto en el mundo de la música como también en el mundo del cine, inclusive. Take A Look Around es el tercer sencillo del mismo álbum conocido como Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water (2000). Aparte de su icónica introducción, la canción también se ha popularizado bastante desde que formó parte de la película Misión Imposible 2. Su inconfundible sonido que mezcla el Rap con el Metal fue lo que me encantó en su momento.
Take A Look Around nos habla del odio, una emoción que se ha vuelto muy común en este mundo plagado de caos, guerras y todo tipo de vivencias e injusticias. La canción transmite una especie de crítica hacia dicha sociedad y su forma tan natural de reaccionar violentamente con cualquier cosa que “no entienden” o no conocen. La falta de amor, empatía y comprensión en la actualidad se ha intensificado más que en aquel momento en el que salió está canción y eso -creo yo- lo hace mucho más interesante ahora. El sonido fuerte, explosivo y violento que se escucha en cada coro es una demostración de dicho sentimiento.
La canción también sirve como una forma de auto-interpretarse cuando escuchamos frases como “I don't even know what I should say” o “I analyze every second I exist, beatin' up my mind every second with my fist” lo cual puede significar una especie de estado de autoanálisis y autocrítica debido a lo poco que uno conoce o siente debido a dicha sociedad falta de moral y emoción. Es como si el locutor nos intentara pedir que viéramos a nuestro alrededor y reconozcamos lo que está realmente mal en nuestras vidas para así saber qué hacer o decir. Sinceramente pensaba que las canciones de Limp Bizkit eran más fuertes.

We wrap up this short collection with a less intense or explosive song by Limp Bizkit that I also happened to hear when I was a teenager. It’s a song that really captivated me back then because of its slow, melancholic sound. “Behind Blue Eyes” is the penultimate single from the band’s fourth studio album, Results May Vary (2003). The song is actually a cover of the track by Pete Townshend of the iconic Rock band The Who. The song became a hit, one of the few singles from this album to gain popularity.
“Behind Blue Eyes” tells the story of the well-known “bad man”—or “sad man,” as he’s also called—mentioned at the beginning of the song. It also tells us about the hard life this character has led due to the various lies and misinterpretations people have about him because of his appearance, the way he speaks, and his demeanor. In a way, the song speaks to the lack of empathy and how easily this society jumps to prejudging people who are simply different. The song also speaks to how the character has been hated and has lived a life of nothing but lies.
Lines like “and no one knows what it’s like, to be hated, to be fated, to tell only lies” convey this message. However, we then hear that his dreams aren’t as empty as his conscience is, and that his long hours of solitude lead him to reflect on his love and how it turns into revenge—whether due to betrayal, a lie, or a failed romance. I won’t deny that both the song’s lyrics and its slow tempo contrast very well with the powerful message of not letting yourself be swayed by what others say or think about you. Sometimes it’s better to be alone and have a clear conscience than to have lots of friends and trouble sleeping.
Concluímos esta pequeña colección con una canción menos fuerte o explosiva de Limp Bizkit que también llegué a escuchar cuando era adolescente. Una canción que me fascinó bastante en su momento por su sonido lento y melancólico que tiene. Behind Blue Eyes es el penúltimo sencillo del cuarto disco de estudio de la banda titulado Results May Vary (2003). La canción es en realidad un cover de la misma que sacó Pete Townshend de la icónica banda de Rock The Who. La canción se ha vuelto un éxito, siendo de los pocos sencillos que se popularizaron de este disco.
Behind Blue Eyes nos habla del conocido “hombre malo” o también llamado “hombre triste” que se menciona al principio de la canción. También nos cuenta de la dura vida que ha tenido este personaje debido a las diferentes mentiras y malas interpretaciones que la gente tiene de él debido a su apariencia, forma de hablar y ser. De alguna forma, la canción nos habla de la falta de empatía y lo fácil que es esta sociedad para que llegue a prejuzgar a la gente que es simplemente diferente. La canción también nos habla de cómo el personaje ha recibido odio y vivido en puras mentiras.
Frases como “and no one knows what it's like, to be hated, to be fated, to telling only lies” nos puede transmitir esto. Sin embargo, acto seguido escuchamos que sus sueños no están tan vacíos como lo está su conciencia y que sus largas horas de soledad lo hace reflexionar sobre su amor y la manera en la que esto se transforma en venganza, ya sea por una traición, una mentira o un mal amor. No voy a negar que tanto la letra de la canción como su ritmo lento contrastan muy bien con el potente mensaje de no dejarse llevar por lo que los demás digan o piensen de uno. A veces es mejor quedarse solo y tener una conciencia tranquila que tener muchos amigos y problemas para dormir.
