Hello, anime fans. Today we continue with this annual “Best Anime of 2025” special, this time bringing you five fantasy anime picks that I’ve selected from among the dozens of series I’ve watched as they aired. It comes as no surprise to those who regularly read my posts that the fantasy genre is one of the most popular and overused in the anime industry. That’s why it’s become very difficult to find an anime that’s both good and compelling among so many generic works that air every quarter.
That’s why I’ve decided to create this TOP list as a special, personal selection of what I consider to be the best fantasy anime from last year that are worth watching. Of course, I’m also doing this because I like to have a collection of “the best of the best” from each genre. As you probably already know, what you’re about to read is solely my personal opinion. I’ve reviewed many of the anime I’ll mention here in the past, so you’ll see their names linked. If you’re a fantasy fan, I hope this list helps you decide what to watch.

Hoy continuamos con este especial anual de “Los Mejores Animes del 2025”, esta vez trayéndoles cinco elecciones de animes de fantasía que he escogido de entre decenas de series que he visto en emisión. No es una sorpresa para los que suelen leerme que el género de fantasía es uno de los más populares y explotados de esta industria del anime. Es por eso que se vuelve muy difícil encontrar un anime que sea bueno y llamativo entre tantas obras genéricas que se emiten trimestralmente.
Es debido a esto que he decidido hacer este TOP como una elección especial y personal con los que -considero yo- son los mejores animes de fantasía que valen la pena ver del año pasado. Claro, también lo hago porque me gusta tener una colección de “lo mejor de lo mejor” de cada género. Como ya deben de saber, lo que leerán a continuación será únicamente mi opinión personal. Muchos de los animes que mencionaré les he hecho una reseña ya en el pasado, así que por eso verán sus nombres enlazados. Si eres fan de la fantasía, espero que este TOP te ayude a escoger qué ver.

I’m kicking off this list with a fantasy anime that really caught my attention back then and kept me thoroughly entertained. Even though it doesn’t have the best plot or the best characters, it offers a mix of action, comedy, and fantasy that doesn’t disappoint at all. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Mato Kousaka and illustrated by Gaou, Girumasu is an anime adaptation produced by the studio CloverWorks. The anime tells the story of the young Alina Clover, who is nothing more than a receptionist at an adventurers’ guild in a medieval fantasy world.
I chose this anime from among the many I watched in the fantasy genre last year simply because its plot stands out from the vast majority. While others tell us the typical, overused “hero’s journey” story complete with a harem of women and all that, this anime shows us something different. While it’s true that there have been other fantasy animes that break away from this plot cliché and tell us something different, Girumasu is special because it’s meant as a satire of works based on dungeon-crawling adventure stories.
Empezando este TOP con un anime de fantasía que, particularmente, me llamó la atención en su momento y me entretuvo bastante. A pesar de no tener la mejor trama o los mejores personajes, tiene una mezcla de acción, comedia y fantasía que no decepciona en lo absoluto. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Mato Kousaka e ilustradas por Gaou, Girumasu es una adaptación animada producida por el estudio CloverWorks. El anime nos cuenta la historia de la joven Alina Clover quien es nomás que una recepcionista de un gremio de aventureros de un mundo medieval y fantástico.
Escogí este anime de entre tantos que he visto de este género de fantasía el año pasado simplemente por el hecho de que su trama se diferencia de la gran mayoría. Mientras los demás nos cuentan la típica y explotada historia del “camino del héroe” con todo y su Harem de mujeres y esas cosas, este anime nos muestra algo diferente. Si bien es cierto que hubo otros animes de fantasía que cumplen con este requisito de desprenderse de este cliché de trama y nos cuentan algo diferente, Girumasu es especial ya que es tomada como una sátira a las obras basadas en historias de aventureros en mazmorras.

We can see this clearly right from the first unforgettable episode, where we see our protagonist complaining about the extra work she has to do as a guild receptionist because the adventurers take so long to defeat a “Final Boss.” So one night, with so much work piling up, she decides to solve this problem by heading into the dungeon to defeat the Boss ALL BY HERSELF. We can already see where this is going, or at least that’s what caught my attention the most at first. But then we see how the plot itself gradually shifts toward events typical of any other fantasy and action anime.
So it doesn’t end up being all that original, but at least we have a female protagonist who is the complete opposite of what we’re used to seeing in this genre. Even so, the anime fails to deliver Fanservice, double entendres, absurd moments, and many other typical clichés. The animation, on the other hand, isn’t exactly the best either. And this is very disappointing coming from a large and promising studio like CloverWorks. But still, even with its shortcomings in terms of fluidity and animation, its quality and level of visual detail manage to stand out from the crowd.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 when it comes to the fantasy, action, and comedy genres.
Esto lo podemos notar claramente desde su primer e inolvidable episodio donde vemos a nuestra protagonista quejándose del trabajo extra que tiene como recepcionista de un gremio debido a que los aventureros se toman mucho tiempo para vencer a un “Jefe de Piso”. Así que ella, una noche entre tanto trabajo pendiente, decide resolver este problema yendo a la mazmorra a vencer al Jefe ELLA SOLA. Ya vemos aquí por dónde va la cosa, o al menos eso fue lo que más llamó mi atención al principio. Pero luego vemos cómo la misma trama cambia poco a poco a eventos típicos de cualquier otro anime de fantasía y acción.
Así que tan original no llega a serlo del todo, pero al menos tenemos a una protagonista femenina que es todo lo contrario a lo que estamos acostumbrados a ver en este género. Aún así, el anime falla en darnos Fanservice, chistes de doble sentido, momentos absurdos y muchos otros clichés típicos. La animación, por otro lado, tampoco es que sea la mejor de todas. Y esto decepciona mucho viniendo de un estudio grande y prometedor como lo es CloverWorks. Pero bueno, aún con sus deficiencias en cuanto a fluidez y animación, su calidad y nivel de detalles visuales consiguen destacar de la mayoría.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, acción y comedia.

Now let’s move on to another fantasy anime, but this time one about magic and witches that tells one of the best stories I’ve come across in the past year. It’s an anime that, unfortunately, went largely unnoticed when it first aired, but I’m bringing it to you here anyway. Also based on a series of light novels of the same name written by Saka and illustrated by Chorefuji, Once Upon a Witch's Death is an anime adaptation produced by the studio ETM Squared. The anime tells the story of young Meg Raspberry, a sorceress apprentice who discovers she is cursed at the age of 17.
The great thing about the fantasy genre is that, if you have an open mind and a keen interest like I do, you can discover unique and quite interesting works. Magic, as one of its many popular elements that has become a subgenre in its own right, is one of my favorites when looking for what to watch each season. Animes featuring wizards, witches, or sorcerers really stand out because they don’t focus on the typical hero’s journey or anything like that. These works aim to delve into a world that’s much more magical, special, and even emotional. There are also magic and fantasy works that introduce and develop characters who are hard to forget.
Vamos ahora con otro anime de fantasía, pero esta vez de magia y brujas que nos cuenta una de las mejores historias que he conocido el año pasado. Un anime que, lamentablemente, ha pasado muy desapercibido en su momento durante su emisión, pero aún así se los traigo aquí. Basada también en una serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Saka e ilustradas por Chorefuji, Once Upon a Witch's Death es una adaptación animada producida por el estudio ETM Squared. El anime nos cuenta la vida de la joven Meg Raspberry, una aprendiz de mago que se entera que tiene una maldición a sus 17 años de edad.
Lo bueno del género de fantasía es que, si tienes una mente abierta y mucho interés como yo, puedes descubrir obras distintas y bastante interesantes. La magia, como uno de sus tantos elementos populares que se han convertido en un subgénero como tal, es de mis favoritas al momento de buscar qué ver en cada temporada. Los animes con magos, magas o brujos llaman mucho la atención ya que no se centran en la típica historia del héroe ni nada de eso. Estas obras buscan incursionar en un mundo mucho más mágico, especial y emocional, incluso. También hay obras de magia y fantasía que nos muestran y desarrollan personajes que son difíciles de olvidar.

This is the case with Meg Raspberry, the protagonist of the anime I’m mentioning in this post. She stands out for being different in more ways than one. She’s literally the type who gets angry, fights, and then comes to terms with tragic news—like the fact that she only has a short time left to live. Her cheerful, charismatic, and funny personality is contagious and brightens your day—a far cry from what we’re used to seeing in other magical anime with drama, where the protagonists live their lives as if they were about to die or something like that. Here, too, we’re shown several role models.
Among them are a few interesting cases that teach us about the value of life and making the most of every moment we have to enjoy it. The symbolism they give to different elements, such as the “tears of happiness,” is something that also fascinates me about this anime. The same goes for the origin or secret behind our protagonist and her curse, which it seems they’ve left for later. Honestly, I really admire this story and the world they created with it. Its animation, while not particularly standout, manages to do its job in every episode, giving us spectacular and quite exciting moments.
Personally, I give it a 9/10 rating in terms of the fantasy, drama, and comedy genres.
Este es el caso de Meg Raspberry, la protagonista del anime que les menciono en este puesto. Ella consigue destacarse por ser diferente en más de un sentido. Literalmente es de las que se enojan, pelean y luego se deciden ante una noticia trágica como lo es que solo le queda poco tiempo de vida. Su personalidad alegre, carismática y graciosa te contagia y te alegra la vida; cosa muy distinta a lo que estamos acostumbrados a ver en otros animes de magia con drama donde sus protagonistas viven sus vidas como si se fueran a morir o algo así. Aquí también se nos muestran varios ejemplos a seguir.
Entre ellos hay uno que otro caso interesante que nos enseña sobre el valor de la vida y aprovechar cada momento que tenemos para disfrutar de ella. El simbolismo que le dan a distintos elementos como lo son las “lágrimas de la felicidad” es algo que me fascina también de este anime. Lo mismo sucede con el origen o secreto que hay detrás de nuestra protagonista y su maldición, cosa que parece nos dejaron para después. Sinceramente, admiro mucho esta historia y el mundo que crearon con ella. Su animación, si bien no destaca tanto, logra cumplir con su cometido en cada episodio, dándonos momentos espectaculares y bastante emocionantes.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, drama y comedia.

Let’s now talk about another big surprise from last year—another fantasy anime that managed to stand out from my massive list thanks to its epic tale of revenge, betrayal, chaos, and destruction. A series that gained some popularity due to its unique blend of dark fantasy, action, gore, and black humor. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Yūji Iwahara, Clevatess is an animated adaptation produced by the studio Lay-duce. The anime tells the story of Clevatess, one of the famous Kings of the Magical Beasts, who one day decides to explore the human world after nearly wiping out an entire nation.
The anime is an absolute marvel, worthy of the genre on which it is based, especially because its story features a wide variety of fantastical elements that make it visually striking. But as if that weren’t enough, the series itself reveals from the very beginning that its story does not center on any of the heroes we meet at the start, but rather on one of the supposed enemies—a practically invincible “Final Boss.” Clevatess proves to be the typical King who seeks to judge all living beings impartially, but who, out of curiosity about what humanity has achieved during all its years confined to a small fraction of the world, visits their lands to learn more about their culture.
Hablemos ahora de otra gran sorpresa del año pasado, otro anime de fantasía que consiguió destacarse de entre mi enorme lista gracias a su grandiosa historia de venganza, traición, caos y destrucción. Una obra que logró cierta popularidad debido a su mezcla única de fantasía oscura, acción, gore y humor negro. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Yūji Iwahara, Clevatess es una adaptación animada producida por el estudio Lay-duce. El anime nos cuenta sobre las aventuras de Clevatess, uno de los famosos Reyes de las Bestias Mágicas, quien un día decide ir a conocer el mundo de los humanos luego de casi exterminar con toda una nación.
El anime es una completa maravilla, digna del género del cual está basada, sobre todo porque su historia posee una gran variedad de elementos fantásticos que la hace llamativa a la vista. Pero por si no fuera suficiente, la propia obra nos revela desde un principio que su historia no se centra en ninguno de los héroes que conocemos al principio, sino en uno de los supuestos enemigos que es un “Last Boss” prácticamente invencible. Clevatess demuestra ser el típico Rey que busca juzgar de manera imparcial a todo ser vivo, pero que por curiosidad de lo que la humanidad ha logrado durante todos sus años confinados en una pequeña fracción del mundo, visita sus tierras para saber más de su cultura.

What’s interesting about all this isn’t just the way the plot twists and turns, shifting from a story of liberation to one of revenge, annihilation, and finally becoming something a bit more profound. Human survival, displays of power, deals with demons, and tragic stories of warriors who have left everything behind to be freed from a global prison that prevents them from seeing a world far larger than what we barely glimpse at the beginning. It’s fascinating how the storytellers present this fantastical yet dark and cruel world, but I think what stands out most is the development of an invincible, proud, and emotionless character.
Not content with having a story that breaks all the typical clichés of any other fantasy anime, along with characters it’s easy to feel familiar with or grow attached to in one way or another, this anime also stands out for its excellent animation. Aside from the level of visual detail, the animation style catches the eye with its character designs and a certain fluidity in certain scenes. The anime stands out even more for having zero censorship when it comes to showing deaths, dismemberments, bleeding, and much more. The visual and sound effects are excellent.
Personally, I give it a rating of 9.5/10 in terms of the fantasy, action, adventure, and comedy genres.
Lo interesante de todo esto no es solo la forma en la que la trama gira y gira, pasando de ser una historia de liberación a venganza, aniquilación y finalmente siendo algo un poco más trascendental. Supervivencia humana, demostración de poder, tratos con demonios e historias trágicas de guerreros que han dejado todo atrás para ser librados de una prisión mundial que no les permite ver un mundo muchísimo más grande de lo que apenas llegamos a ver al principio. Es fascinante la forma en la que nos narran muestran este mundo fantástico y a la vez oscuro y cruel, pero creo que lo más llamativo es el desarrollo de un personaje invencible, orgulloso y sin emociones.
No bastando con tener una historia que rompe con todos los clichés típicos de cualquier otro anime de fantasía junto con personajes con los que es fácil poder sentirse familiarizado o encariñados de alguna forma u otra; este anime también consigue destacarse con su excelente animación. Aparte del nivel de detalles visuales, un estilo de animación que llama la atención por sus diseños de personajes y cierta fluidez en ciertos escenarios. El anime logra destacarse más por tener cero censura al momento de mostrarnos muertes, cortadas, desangrados y muchas cosas más. Los efectos visuales y de sonido son excelentes.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, acción, aventura y comedia.

Another one of my favorite fantasy anime from last year—one I absolutely loved and highly recommend—is a series that’s nothing like it seems at first glance. It’s a very entertaining anime, especially if you’re a fan of magic, satirical yet innocent humor, and many other elements that make this invaluable gem so special. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Matsuri Isora and illustrated by Nanan Fujimi, Secrets of the Silent Witch is an anime adaptation produced by Studio Gokumi. The anime tells the story of Monica Everett, the youngest mage in this fantasy world, though this doesn’t spare her from her severe social anxiety.
This is what I meant when I mentioned fantasy anime related to magic earlier: an anime about a young sorceress who is the most talented in her world, yet still has to face her serious anxiety issues in her daily life. The unique way these stories are developed—blending drama with personal experiences, the occasional trauma, and all the fantastical and magical elements you can throw in—is top-notch. Especially because here you can really feel how natural it all came across, particularly when it comes to the protagonist’s ironic situation of being both a prodigy and anxious at the same time.
Otro de mis animes de fantasía favoritos del año pasado que tanto me han encantado y que igualmente recomiendo bastante es uno que no es para nada lo que aparenta ser al principio. Un anime muy entretenido, sobre todo si eres fan de la magia, el humor satírico e inocente, entre muchos otros elementos que hacen especial esta joya invaluable. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Matsuri Isora e ilustradas por Nanan Fujimi, Secrets of the Silent Witch es una adaptación animada producida por Studio Gokumi. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Monica Everett, la maga más joven de este mundo fantástico, aunque esto no la libra de su seria ansiedad social.
A esto me refiero con lo que les hablé arriba de los anime de fantasía relacionados con la magia: un anime de una joven maga que es la más talentosa de su mundo, pero que aún así tiene que afrontar sus graves problemas de ansiedad en su vida diaria. La manera tan particular de desarrollar estas historias mezclando drama con vivencias personales, uno que otro trauma y todos los elementos fantásticos y mágicos que se puedan agregar es de lo mejor. Sobre todo porque aquí sí se puede sentir lo natural que les resultó, en especial al tratarse de la irónica situación de la protagonista toda prodigiosa y ansiosa a la vez.

I really like the main character, who—despite her shy, clumsy, and anxious personality—proves to be surprisingly gifted when it comes to magic, numbers, and measurements. Throughout this anime, we discover that her way of seeing the world is very different from the norm, just as her magic is. They even call her the “Silent Magician,” a nickname that suits her quite well. Here, we don’t see any spectacular action scenes, invincible enemies, or characters seeking revenge—or anything of the sort. Instead, we get a glimpse into the life of our young protagonist, Monica Everett, in a unique, melancholic, cruel, and even emotional way.
Aside from a beautiful story and a fascinating, entertaining protagonist, the anime also boasts animation quality that’s quite a pleasure to watch. This is especially true of the traditional animation style, visual details, character designs, and striking visual effects. The “chibi” animation style used in humorous moments is also quite appealing, as it adds an extra layer to the humor presented here. It lacks Fanservice, which is much appreciated, and when it seeks to stand out with magic or the occasional display of power, it does so quite well. The sound effects and soundtrack are fascinating.
Personally, I give it a rating of 9.9/10 in terms of the fantasy, comedy, and drama genres.
Me gusta mucho tanto su protagonista, quien a pesar de su personalidad tímida, torpe y ansiosa; demuestra ser alguien sorprendente para la magia, los números y las medidas. Podemos descubrir a lo largo de este anime que su forma de ver el mundo es muy diferente a lo que es normal, al igual que sucede con su magia. Incluso la llaman la “Maga Silenciosa” por alguna razón que le precede bastante bien. Aquí no vemos escenas de acción sorprendentes, enemigos invencibles o personajes que buscan venganza ni nada por el estilo. Aquí vemos cómo es la vida de nuestra joven Monica Everett de una forma especial, melancólica, cruel y hasta emotiva, inclusive.
Aparte de una hermosa historia, una protagonista fascinante y entretenida; el anime también posee una calidad de animación que es bastante agradable de ver. Sobre todo por el estilo de animación tradicional, detalles visuales, diseños de personajes y efectos visuales bastante llamativos. El estilo de animación que utilizan en momentos de humor también gustan bastante ya que esto le da un plus al humor que se maneja aquí. No tiene Fanservice que es algo que se agradece bastante y cuando buscan destacarse con la magia o alguna que otra demostración de poder, lo hace bastante bien. Los efectos de sonido y la banda sonora que tiene es fascinante.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9.9/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, comedia y drama.

Let’s wrap up with what, for me, was the best fantasy series I saw last year—and that’s because it’s so much more than everything mentioned earlier. You could even say it stands out far above any other fantasy work thanks to its originality and unique storytelling style. Based on the famous manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Yoshitoki Ōshima, To Your Eternity is an animated adaptation produced by Drive and Studio Massked. The third season follows Fushi’s adventures in the “modern era.”
This isn’t the first time I’ve placed this anime at the top of a “TOP” list, and it’s no surprise given how much I loved watching it back then. As you can see, it’s the third and final season of an anime that’s been around for several years and has become particularly popular. Obviously, it isn’t as prominent in the fantasy genre as it should be, but rather in the drama genre due to its complex and profound story and themes. To give just one example, in this third season we see Fushi’s life in the modern era of a world where he is known as a sort of “deity” and all that.
Finalizemos con lo que, para mí, fue lo mejor que he visto del género de fantasía el año pasado y es debido a que es muchísimo más que todo lo ya mencionado antes. Incluso se podría decir que es una obra que se diferencia por mucho a cualquier otra obra de fantasía debido a su originalidad y particular forma de narrarnos una historia única en su estilo. Basada en la famosa serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Yoshitoki Ōshima, To Your Eternity es una adaptación animada producida por Drive y Studio Massked. La tercera temporada nos narra los acontecimientos ocurridos con Fushi en la “era moderna”.
No es la primera vez que coloco este anime en el primer puesto de un TOP y no es de extrañar esto debido a lo mucho que me encantó verlo en su momento. Como ven, es la tercera y última temporada de un anime que ya lleva varios años existiendo y que se ha vuelto particularmente popular. Obviamente, no es muy destacado en el género de fantasía como debería, sino más bien en el género de drama debido a su historia y temas tan complejos y profundos que trata. Con solo darles un ejemplo, en esta tercera temporada vemos la vida de Fushi en la era moderna de un mundo donde lo conocen como una especie de “divinidad” y todo.

However, our protagonist’s natural enemy is still alive—only now it has evolved into something more elusive, yet just as dangerous. And not only that, but Fushi will have to face certain challenges of the modern world as he tries to live a peaceful and happy life with his friends. To avoid giving away too many spoilers, I’ll just say that this series is absolutely worth watching, not only because it’s unlike anything you’ve seen in the anime world so far, but also because of the unique way it develops its characters to the point where it’s hard to forget them.
Another thing that fascinates me about this anime is its blend of drama with psychological suspense, gore, action, comedy, and so much more. This season also stood out quite a bit because we see a significant audiovisual improvement over its previous second season. The fluidity in certain scenes and moments of the series is incredible, and I appreciate that there’s no censorship, as always. The character designs are excellent, especially for the characters in this modern world. And of course, the visual and sound effects are top-notch. The same goes for the anime’s soundtrack, which is also fascinating.
Personally, I give it a well-deserved 10/10 rating in terms of the fantasy, drama, and action genres.
Sin embargo, el enemigo natural de nuestro protagonista sigue vivo, solo que ha evolucionado a algo más invisible, pero igual de peligroso. Y no solo eso, sino que Fushi tendrá que afrontar ciertos problemas de este mundo moderno mientras intenta vivir una vida tranquila y feliz con sus amigos. Para no darles tantos spoilers, solo les diré que vale toda la pena del mundo ver esta obra, no solo porque es diferente a todo lo que han visto en el mundo del anime hasta ahora, sino por la manera tan especial de desarrollar a sus personajes a tal punto que es difícil olvidarlos.
Otra cosa que me fascina de este anime es la mezcla que tiene de drama con suspenso psicológico, gore, acción, comedia y muchísimo más. Esta temporada también se destacó bastante debido a que vemos una mejora audiovisual bastante mejor que su anterior segunda temporada. La fluidez en ciertas escenas y momentos de la obra es increíble y agradezco que no tengan nada de censura como siempre. Los diseños de los personajes son excelentes, sobre todo de los personajes de este mundo moderno. Y claro, los efectos visuales y de sonido no están de más. Lo mismo aplica para la banda sonora del anime que es fascinante también.
Personalmente, le doy una merecida calificación de 10/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, drama y acción.
