Hello, anime fans. We’re back with another “TOP” where I’ll talk about the best anime I watched last year. This time, we’ll be discussing Isekai anime—a subgenre that has become just as popular as fantasy or action in this industry. There are so many Isekai anime out there right now that it’s hard to find one worth watching, especially since the vast majority are generic. That’s why I’ve put together this personal list of five anime that caught my attention when they aired last year.
Since this is the third “TOP” I’m doing to talk about the best anime I watched last year, I suppose there’s no need to repeat the following, but I’ll do it anyway. First, I’d like to remind you that I’ll only be discussing anime that fall strictly within the Isekai genre. I’d also like to remind you that I’ve already reviewed some of the anime I’ll mention below, so you’ll see their titles linked to those reviews. Everything you read here is solely my own opinion. So if you’re looking for a guide to start watching a worthwhile Isekai, stick around until the end.
Hola, fanáticos del anime. Volvemos con otro TOP más donde les hablo de los mejores animes que he visto el año pasado. En esta ocasión hablaremos de los animes Isekai, una demografía que ha conseguido popularizarse tanto como lo ha hecho el género de la fantasía o la acción en esta industria. Actualmente hay tantos animes isekai que es difícil encontrar uno que valga la pena ver, sobre todo cuando la gran mayoría son genéricos. Es por esta razón que hago esta elección personal de cinco animes que lograron llamar mi atención durante su emisión el año pasado.
Siendo el tercer TOP que hago hablándoles de los mejores animes que he visto el año pasado, supongo que no hace falta repetirles lo siguiente, pero igual lo haré de todos modos. Primero les recuerdo que solo hablaré de animes que únicamente son de la demografía Isekai. También les recuerdo que algunos de los animes que les mencionaré a continuación ya les he hecho una reseña en su momento y por eso verán sus nombres enlazados con dichas reseñas. Todo lo que leerán será únicamente mi propia opinión. Así que si buscas una guía para empezar a ver un Isekai que valga la pena, entonces quédate hasta el final.

The anime tells the story of Ryo Mihara, a boy who was given a second chance to live a peaceful life in a medieval fantasy world after dying in an accident. As you’ve just read, there’s nothing new to be found in this Isekai anime; rather, the story begins exactly like most other generic Isekai currently out there. You know the drill: the typical story of the protagonist who dies in his own world and is given the chance to be sent to a fantasy world where he receives certain blessings, powers, abilities, and so on.
Empezamos este TOP con el que, para mí, es el anime Isekai genérico que más me gustó ver de todos los que se emitieron el año pasado. Un anime que pasó un poco desapercibido, a pesar de tener una buena producción y animación, a diferencia de la mayoría de Isekais genéticos y de aparente bajo presupuesto. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Tadashi Kubō e ilustradas por Hana Amano, The Water Magician es una adaptación animada producida por los estudios Typhoon Graphics y Wonderland.
El anime nos cuenta la vida de Ryo Mihara, un chico que recibió una segunda oportunidad de vivir una vida tranquila en un mundo fantástico y medieval, luego de morir en un accidente. Como acaban de leer, no es nada nuevo lo que veremos en este anime Isekai, más bien, la historia empieza justamente como la mayoría de otros Isekais genéticos que existen actualmente. Ya saben, la típica historia del protagonista que muere en su mundo y recibe la oportunidad de ser enviado a un mundo de fantasía donde recibe ciertas bendiciones, poderes, habilidades, etc.

Unlike most isekai stories that focus on “the hero’s journey,” The Water Magician takes a different approach, as Ryo Mihara is a protagonist who prefers to live a quiet life, away from the public eye. Mind you, this isn’t exactly new either; there are other Isekai anime with protagonists like this who do the same thing. Otherwise, it has plenty of typical clichés, such as the invincible protagonist who always shows up when they’re needed most and always emerges victorious. While the plot itself justifies some of these details, the irony of being so predictable is obvious.
The good thing about this Isekai is that it has no Harem or Fanservice, which is a positive aspect for a generic Isekai. Another detail worth noting is the animation, which was what really caught my attention at first, especially the Opening sequence. While the high quality of the animation, fluidity, color palette, and shots are noticeable at the start, we see a slight drop in that quality by the end of the anime. That said, both the battles and the displays of power aren’t too bad either. It wasn’t bad, but perhaps if the story had taken a different direction, it could have been better.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 in terms of the fantasy, adventure, and Isekai genres.
A diferencia de la mayoría de Isekais que se centran en “el camino del héroe”, con The Water Magician no ocurre exactamente así ya que Ryo Mihara es un protagonista que prefiere vivir una vida tranquila, alejado del foco público. Ojo, esto tampoco es nuevo, existen también animes Isekai con este tipo de protagonistas que hacen lo mismo. De resto, tiene muchos clichés típicos como lo es el protagonista invencible, que siempre aparece cuando más lo necesitan y siempre sale victorioso. Si bien la propia trama nos justifica algunos de estos detalles, la ironía de ser tan predecible es evidente.
Lo bueno de este Isekai es que no tiene Harem ni Fanservice, lo cual es algo positivo al tratarse de un Isekai genérico. Otro detalle a destacar es la animación, la cual fue lo que me llamó mucho la atención al principio, sobre todo por su Opening. Si bien al principio se pueden notar la buena calidad de animación, fluidez, paleta de colores y planos; luego vemos cierta bajada en dicha calidad al final del anime. Igualmente, tanto las batallas como las demostraciones de poder tampoco están tan mal. No estuvo mal, pero tal vez si la historia tuviese un rumbo más diferente podría haber sido mejor.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, aventura e Isekai.

Next up is another anime that also managed to stand out from the crowd of generic Isekai series thanks to its plot and its protagonist. Quite literally, what stands out most about this anime is its protagonist, due to his appearance and personality. But its premise and the way it blends fantasy with comedy are also noteworthy. Based on the web novel series of the same name written by Ryō Hiromastu, Uglymug, Epicfighter is an anime adaptation produced by the studio White Fox. The anime tells the story of Shigeru Yoshioka, a former office worker who sacrifices his appearance for power and is sent to a fantasy world.
Whether or not it’s a parody of the Isekai genre itself, I admit that Uglymug, Epicfighter is one of my favorite anime from last year because of how entertaining its plot is. Aside from its eye-catching and interesting first episode, this anime has a plot that hooks you from the start with its ironic humor and characters who manage to stand out in one way or another. Among them is the protagonist, who stands out from the vast majority, mainly because of his appearance. While it has its clichés—including the invincible protagonist trope—it also has notable strengths, such as its plot.
Seguimos con otro anime que también logró destacarse de entre la mayoría de Isekais genéricos debido a su trama y su protagonista. Literalmente, lo que más resalta de este anime es su protagonista debido a su físico y su personalidad. Aunque también está su premisa y forma de mezclar la fantasía con la comedia. Basada en la serie de novelas web homónima escrita por Ryō Hiromastu, Uglymug, Epicfighter es una adaptación animada producida por el estudio White Fox. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Shigeru Yoshioka, un ex-asalariado que sacrifica su apariencia por poder y es enviado a un mundo fantástico.
Sea o no una parodia de la misma demografía Isekai, admito que Uglymug, Epicfighter es de mis animes favoritos del año pasado debido a lo entretenido que es su trama. Aparte del llamativo e interesante primer episodio que tiene, este anime posee una trama que te engancha desde el principio con un humor irónico y personajes que logran destacarse de una forma u otra. Entre ellos está el protagonista, quien destaca por sobre la gran mayoría, principalmente, por su apariencia. Si bien tiene sus clichés, entre los cuales está el del protagonista invencible, también tiene sus detalles destacables como su trama.

Then there are the other characters, including the main ones, who also have their own stories. Whether they’re the adventurers or heroes, or the enemies or villains we meet in this anime, they all have their own backstories, origins, and character arcs that make them interesting. There are no Demon Kings or anything like that here, just characters who can become either heroes or villains. And that’s why I like this plot, especially Shigeru, who manages to grab your attention at every turn thanks to his story, as well as his appearance and personality, which completely break away from the typical cliché of the handsome protagonist.
One thing I do admit didn’t quite captivate me about this anime is part of its story development, which takes certain turns that don’t quite convince me, though I don’t think it’s a big deal either. The animation is another aspect that really disappointed me, though this is because I’m well aware of the potential of the studio behind this anime adaptation. But for an Isekai anime, it’s not too bad in terms of audiovisual design, animation, art styles, color palette, fluidity, and visual details. I also really like the sound effects and the soundtrack.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8.5/10 in the fantasy, adventure, and Isekai genres.
También están sus demás personajes, entre ellos los principales que también tienen lo suyo. Tanto los aventureros o héroes como los enemigos o villanos que conocemos en este anime tienen su propia historia, origen y desarrollo que los hacen interesantes. Aquí no hay Reyes Demonio ni nada de eso, solo personajes que pueden convertirse tanto en héroes como en villanos. Y es debido a esto que me gusta dicha trama, sobre todo a Shigeru quien consigue llamar la atención en todo momento debido a su historia, además de su apariencia y personalidad que rompe por completo con el típico cliché del protagonista apuesto.
Algo que sí admito que no me fascinó bastante de este anime es parte del desarrollo de su historia, la cual toma ciertos rumbos que no me terminan de convencer, pero tampoco creo que sea para tanto. Su animación es otro detalle que sí me decepcionó mucho, aunque esto se debe a que conozco bien el potencial que tiene el estudio que estuvo a cargo de dicha adaptación animada. Pero para ser un anime Isekai no está tan mal en cuanto a diseño audiovisual, animación, estilos de dibujo, paleta de colores, fluidez y detalles visuales. Los efectos de sonido y la banda sonora que tiene también me gustan bastante.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, aventura e Isekai.

Let’s now talk about another Isekai anime that also stood out quite a bit last year for a couple of very interesting reasons. An anime that will surely remind more than a few of you of another famous Isekai anime featuring a protagonist trapped in a fantasy world inspired by his favorite video game. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Firehead and illustrated by YahaKo, "A Wild Last Boss Appeared!" is an anime adaptation produced by the studio Wao World. The anime tells the story of an MMORPG player who is sent to the world of his favorite video game with his strongest avatar.
With this description, there are already other Isekai animes that are even more famous than the one I’m bringing you here. But I bet that in none of those animes does the protagonist have a female appearance, as is the case in A Wild Last Boss Appeared! And the thing is, one of the standout aspects of this anime is its protagonist, who, aside from possessing the body of a female warrior and leader, undergoes an interesting development throughout the series. Whether it’s her appearance, power, story, past, origin, or any other detail about this character, the anime makes it very clear to us the difference between the player and the fantasy world in which she finds herself.
Hablemos ahora de otro anime Isekai que también se destacó bastante el año pasado debido a que tuvo un par de razones muy interesantes para hacerlo. Un anime que, seguramente, a más de uno les recordará otro anime Isekai famoso de un protagonista atrapado en un mundo fantástico inspirado en su videojuego favorito. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Firehead e ilustradas por YahaKo, "A Wild Last Boss Appeared!” es una adaptación animada producida por el estudio Wao World. El anime nos cuenta la historia de un jugador de MMORPG que es enviado al mundo de su videojuego favorito con su avatar más fuerte.
Con esta descripción ya existen otros animes Isekai que son incluso más famosos que este que les traigo aquí. Pero les apuesto a que en ninguno de esos animes el protagonista tiene apariencia de mujer como sucede en A Wild Last Boss Appeared! Y es que uno de los puntos destacables de este anime es su protagonista, quien aparte de poseer el cuerpo de una guerrera y líder femenina,tiene un desarrollo interesante a lo largo de la serie. Ya sea por su apariencia, poder, historia, pasado, origen o cualquier otro detalle de dicho personaje; el anime nos deja bien en claro la diferencia que hay entre el jugador y el mundo fantástico en el que se encuentra.

The plot also has its interesting aspects, especially regarding the world and the way it’s constructed. The characters we encounter throughout the anime also stand out in their own way. But none of that compares to what we’ll see and describe little by little with our protagonist. What I like is that this time, she’s neither a hero nor an adventurer, but rather the supposed “Final Boss” of the enemy faction. However, the way this world views and tells stories about this character makes her seem like a savior and even a kind of deity.
This disparity and the details in the plot make it intriguing to learn more about it and ultimately hook you, believe it or not. The anime also has plenty of action, which I think is what stands out the most. I say this mainly because of its animation quality, which is better than that of the previous anime I mentioned in this TOP. And not only that, but that quality, visual details, fluidity, and more keep improving with every episode. In the end, there’s one battle in particular where they take that audiovisual quality to its highest level.
Personally, I give it a 9/10 rating in terms of the fantasy, adventure, and Isekai genres.
La trama también tiene sus cosas interesantes, sobre todo con el mundo y la manera en la que está construido. Los personajes que vemos a lo largo del anime también llaman la atención a su manera. Pero nada comparado con lo que vemos y describiremos poco a poco con nuestra protagonista. Lo que me gusta es que en esta ocasión no es un héroe ni un aventurero, sino un supuesto “Last Boss” del bando enemigo. Sin embargo, la manera en la que este mundo ve y cuenta historias sobre este personaje la hacen ver como si fuera una salvadora y hasta una especie de deidad.
Dicha disparidad y detalles que tiene esta trama hacen que sea interesante saber más de la misma y te engancha al final, aunque no lo creas. El anime también tiene una buena cantidad de acción, cosa que considero que es lo que más llama la atención. Lo digo sobre todo por su calidad de animación, la cual es mejor que la que tienen los anteriores animes que les mencioné en este TOP. Y no solo eso, sino que dicha calidad, detalles visuales, fluidos y demás mejoran cada vez más en cada episodio. Al final, hay una batalla en especial en el que elevan dicha calidad audiovisual a su máximo nivel.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, aventura e Isekai.

Let’s now talk about what was—and will always be, for me—one of the best Isekai anime of all time, without exception. An anime that saw a significant drop in popularity after its first two seasons. A story that has managed to hold up quite well, despite the criticism and outside opinions. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Aneko Yusagi, The Rising of the Shield Hero is an anime adaptation produced by the studio Kinema Citrus. The anime tells the story of Naofumi Iwatani and his adventures in a medieval fantasy world to which he was transported.
It’s the typical story of the protagonist sent to another fantasy world to become a hero and all that, but with the notable difference that here, nothing is as easy as it seems. The plot of The Rising of the Shield Hero was one of its most compelling aspects, especially at the beginning, as we witnessed a truly top-notch tale of betrayal, redemption, and revenge. Aside from this, we also see quite remarkable development and growth in our protagonist, who is none other than the famous “Hero of the Shield”—yes, a shield as a weapon isn’t exactly the best option out there.
Hablemos ahora del que fue y seguirá siendo, para mí, uno de los mejores animes Isekai de todos, sin excepción alguna. Un anime que decayó bastante en popularidad luego de sus dos primeras temporadas. Una historia que ha conseguido permanecer bastante bien, a pesar de las críticas y opiniones externas. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Aneko Yusagi, The Rising of the Shield Hero es una adaptación animada producida por el estudio Kinema Citrus. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Naofumi Iwatani y sus aventuras en un mundo fantástico y medieval en el cual fue transportado.
La típica historia del protagonista enviado a otro mundo de fantasía para convertirse en héroe y todo eso, pero con la notable diferencia de que aquí nada es tan fácil como se aparenta ser. La trama de The Rising of the Shield Hero fue uno de sus detalles más relevantes, sobre todo al principio ya que vimos una auténtica historia de traición, redención y venganza de primera calidad. Aparte de esto, vemos también un desarrollo y crecimiento bastante destacable de nuestro protagonista, quien no es más que el famoso “Héroe del Escudo”, si, un escudo como arma no es de las mejores opciones que hay.

While the anime reached its peak of epicness in its early seasons, the same couldn’t be said for the later ones. But this is because the story itself touched on certain plot points or narrative arcs that, for many, seemed rather drawn-out and boring. Personally, I admit that I also had that impression at the time with its previous seasons, especially with the third season, if I’m not mistaken. But looking back, I consider it a very well-told story, with a well-structured narrative and a well-developed fantasy world.
All the details, secrets, confrontations, challenges, and missions our protagonist undertakes with his team in this final season also have their impressive moments. And another thing I really like about this anime is the way it takes its time to develop each of its characters. We saw this before with the heroes, and something similar happens in this final season. The animation and production quality of this anime is another significant aspect. Especially since it’s a huge improvement compared to previous seasons. It shines in action scenes, but overall, it’s not bad at all.
Personally, I give it a 9.5/10 rating in the fantasy, adventure, drama, and Isekai genres.
Si bien el anime tuvo su pico de epicidad en sus primeras temporadas, esto no llegó a ser igual con las demás temporadas. Pero esto se debe a que la propia historia llegó a tocar ciertos puntos o arcos narrativos que, para muchos, parecieron bastante extensos y aburridos. Personalmente admito que dicha impresión también la tuve en su momento con sus temporadas anteriores, sobre todo con la tercera temporada, si no me equivoco. Pero al ver las cosas en retrospectiva considero que es una historia muy bien contada, con una narrativa bien estructurada y un mundo fantástico bien desarrollado.
Todos los detalles, secretos, enfrentamientos, dificultades y misiones que realiza nuestro protagonista con su equipo en esta última temporada tienen también sus momentos impresionantes. Y es que otra cosa que también me gusta de este anime es la forma en la que se toma su tiempo para desarrollar a cada uno de sus personajes. Antes vimos esto en el caso de los héroes y en esta última temporada sucede algo similar. La animación y producción que posee este anime es otro detalle bastante relevante. Sobre todo porque mejora mucho en comparación con sus temporadas anteriores. Tiene sus puntos fuertes en escenas de acción, pero en regla general no está tan mal.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, aventura, drama e Isekai.

To wrap up this list, I couldn’t think of a better way than to tell you about what is, for me, the best Isekai anime I watched last year. In the absence of major works in this genre like Re:Zero, an anime that no one expected to be an Isekai came along to give us one of the most wonderful stories ever produced and told in this industry. Zenshu is an original animated series produced by the famous MAPPA studio, directed by Mitsue Yamazaki. The anime tells the story of Natsuko Hirose, a skilled and talented mangaka who gets intoxicated and is transported to a fantasy world.
Let me tell you right off the bat that this is one of the best anime I’ve seen in the past year—not just within the overused Isekai subgenre, but across all genres. This series features a sublime blend of fantasy with action, drama, comedy, and romance, making it both highly entertaining and captivating. Its story hooks you with an introduction and character development that are excellent, entertaining, and unforgettable. Starting with the protagonist, a mangaka who gains a very unique power in this fantasy world that makes her practically invincible. But this isn’t like any other Isekai—no, here both the world and the story are different.
Para finalizar este TOP, no encontré una mejor manera que hablándoles del que es, para mí, el mejor anime Isekai que he visto el año pasado. En ausencia de grandes obras de este género como lo es Re:Zero, un anime que nadie esperaba que sería un Isekai llegó para darnos una de las historias más maravillosas que se hayan podido producir y contar en esta industria. Zenshu es una serie animada original producida por el famoso estudio MAPPA, junto con la dirección de Mitsue Yamazaki. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Natsuko Hirose, una mangaka hábil y talentosa que se intoxica y es transportada a un mundo de fantasía.
De una les digo que es de los mejores animes que he visto el año pasado, no solo dentro del explotado subgénero del Isekai, sino de todos los géneros que existen también. Esta serie posee una mezcla sublime de fantasía con acción, drama, comedia y romance que la hace súper entretenida y fascinante al mismo tiempo. Su historia te atrapa con una introducción y desarrollo de personajes que son excelentes, entretenidos e inolvidables. Empezando por su protagonista, quien es una mangaka que consigue un poder muy particular en este mundo de fantasía que la vuelve prácticamente invencible. Pero todo esto no es como cualquier otro Isekai, no, aquí tanto el mundo como la historia son diferentes.

The series itself aims to stand out even within its own demographic, telling the story of a talented mangaka trying to launch her career with her next “masterpiece,” but who can’t seem to find the inspiration needed to create anything. It is here that we see her embark on a unique journey in a fantasy world based on her favorite movie—which, ironically, was a flop in her own world. The anime’s plot, its narrative style, the themes it explores, and the way it develops its characters are just a few of the many details that make this anime stand out.
Zenshu isn’t just an anime with a story that hooks you with characters who make you laugh, scream, or cry; it’s also a work with a powerful message that can benefit all of us who watch it. And that’s why I’ve placed it here—because it’s a complete story, with a beginning and an end, a moral, and an inspiring message for its entire audience. Visually, it doesn’t fall short either, especially coming from MAPPA. The character design, color palette, and art style are top-notch. Not to mention the excellent fluidity and the perfect blend of visual effects, sound effects, and soundtrack in its action scenes.
Personally, I give it a well-deserved 10/10 rating in the fantasy, action, drama, comedy, and Isekai genres.
La misma obra busca destacarse incluso entre su propia demografía, dándonos una historia de una mangaka talentosa que intenta despegar su carrera con su próxima “obra maestra”, pero que no consigue la inspiración necesaria para lograr crear algo. Es aquí donde la vemos vivir una experiencia única en un mundo fantástico que está basado en su película favorita que, curiosamente, fue un fracaso en su mundo. La trama del anime, la narrativa que maneja, los temas de los cuales trata y la forma de desarrollar a sus personajes son solo algunos de los muchísimos detalles que tiene este anime para destacar.
Zenshu no es solo un anime con una historia que te atrapa con personajes que te hacen reír, gritar o llorar; sino que también es una obra con un mensaje bastante bueno que puede servirnos a todos los que la veamos. Y es por esto que la sitúo en este puesto, porque es una historia completa, con inicio y fin, con una moraleja y un mensaje inspirador para toda su audiencia. En cuanto a su apartado audiovisual tampoco se queda atrás y menos al tratarse de MAPPA. El diseño de los personajes, la paleta de colores y el estilo de dibujo son de lo mejor. Eso sin mencionar la excelente fluidez y la perfecta mezcla de efectos visuales, efectos de sonido y banda sonora que tiene en sus escenas de acción.
Personalmente, le doy una merecida calificación de 10/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, acción, drama, comedia e Isekai.
