Hello, anime fans. Today I’m bringing you the final “TOP” list I plan to share for this little annual special, where I talk about my favorite anime from 2025. This time, we’re going to talk about “Slice of Life” animes—a genre that isn’t as well-known or widely explored as the ones we’ve covered in recent weeks. Instead, it’s a genre that often goes unnoticed because it blends with other genres like romance, adventure, or drama. But even though they aren’t very well known, they have stories that are definitely worth watching.
That’s why—to wrap up this special series—I decided to pick the five best Slice of Life animes I watched last year. As with my previous posts, everything you’ll read below is solely my own opinion. I’d also like to remind you that I’ve already written a more in-depth and detailed review of each anime I’ll be mentioning below, so you’ll see their titles linked to those reviews. If you’re tired of watching anime packed with action, drama, romance, and other generic elements, and you’re looking for something calmer and more relaxing to watch, then stick around until the end.
Hola, fanáticos del anime. Hoy vengo con el último TOP que pienso hacer para este pequeño especial anual donde les hablo de mis animes favoritos que he visto el pasado 2025. Esta vez nos toca hablarles de los animes Slice of Life, un género no muy conocido ni explotado como los anteriores que hemos abordado en estas últimas semanas. En cambio, es un género que pasa muchas veces desapercibido al mezclarse con otros géneros como el romance, la aventura o el drama. Pero a pesar de no ser muy conocidos, tienen historias que valen mucho la pena ver.
Es por eso que -para cerrar este especial- decidí escoger los cinco mejores animes Slice of Life que llegué a ver el año pasado. Como hice con mis anteriores publicaciones, todo lo que leerán a continuación será únicamente mi propia opinión. También les recuerdo que ya he hecho una reseña más profunda y concreta de cada anime que les iré mencionando a continuación, así que por eso verán sus nombres enlazados con dichas reseñas. Si estás cansado de ver animes con mucha acción, drama, romance y demás cosas genéricas y buscas algo más tranquilo y relajante para ver; entonces quédate hasta el final.

Let’s start off as calmly and lightly as possible with an anime that really captivated me when it first aired. It’s a story that evokes a sense of peace, tranquility, and happiness, with characters so distinctive that they’re hard to forget. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Ko Nikaido, With You and the Rain is an animated adaptation produced by the studio Lesprit. The anime tells the story of Fuji, a young, solitary novelist who loves rainy days, and on one such day, she stumbles upon a box containing a strange new friend.
This is a perfect example of what “Slice of Life” is in its purest, most visual, and narrative sense. With You and the Rain isn’t an anime with the deepest or most fascinating story, nor does it have the most fully developed characters—none of that. It’s actually an anime about a woman who loves being alone, listening to the rain fall while she writes, eats, or does whatever she pleases at home. That’s exactly the plot—oh, with the small detail that her only companion is a tanuki pretending to be a dog so she’ll take care of him.
Empecemos de la forma más tranquila y ligera posible con un anime que me fascinó bastante verlo en emisión en su momento. Una historia que te evoca a la paz, la tranquilidad y la felicidad con personajes tan característicos que son hasta difíciles de olvidar. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Ko Nikaido, With You and the Rain es una adaptación animada producida por el estudio Lesprit. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Fuji, una joven y solitaria escritora de novelas que le encantan los días lluviosos y en uno de esos días se topa con una caja con un extraño nuevo amigo adentro.
Este es un ejemplo perfecto de lo que es el Slice of Life en un sentido más puro, visual y narrativo. With You and the Rain es un anime que no tiene ni la historia más profunda o fascinante ni los personajes más desarrollados de todos, nada de eso. En realidad es un anime de una mujer que le encanta estar en soledad escuchando la lluvia caer mientras escribe, come o hace cualquier cosa en su casa. Es exactamente esa la trama, ah, con el pequeño detalle de que su única compañía en un tanuki que se hace pasar por perro para que ella lo cuide.

But even with that lively and charismatic element they add at the beginning of the series, everything remains exactly as I just described above. There are no plot twists, dramatic moments, or satirical or strong humor of any kind; there’s nothing to disrupt the steady progression of the plot and story. And it’s possible that many people aren’t interested in watching this type of anime because of this, and it’s normal for them to even consider it “boring.” But for those looking for something peaceful to watch—without all the melodrama or elements found in most generic, popular anime—this anime is perfect.
Since this anime actually belongs to a very specific subgenre of Slice of Life dedicated to stories set in peaceful, immersive locations or environments (Iyashikei), we see that this work stands out more for its audiovisual aspects than for anything else. We can confirm this through the character designs, the cool and varied color palette, the light tones, the static shots with very little movement, and so on. It also features well-executed visual details, and the series itself perfectly immerses us in the atmosphere of each episode. The sound effects and soundtrack contribute greatly to this as well.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8.5/10 within the “Slice of Life” genre.
Pero aún con ese aditivo animal y carismático que le añaden al principio de la obra, todo sigue siendo exactamente lo que les acabo de describir arriba. No hay giros de trama, momentos dramáticos, humor satírico o fuerte en ningún sentido; no hay nada que altere la constante línea de desarrollo de la trama e historia. Y es posible que a mucha gente no les interese ver este tipo de animes debido a esto y es normal que hasta lo consideren “aburrido”. Pero para los que buscan algo tranquilo de ver y sin tanto melodrama ni cosas que se ven en la mayoría de animes genéricos y populares, este anime es perfecto.
Como en realidad este anime tiene un subgénero muy específico del Slice of Life dedicado a dichas historias con lugares o ambientes tranquilos e inmersivos (Iyashikei), vemos que dicha obra se destaca más por su apartado audiovisual que por todo lo demás. Esto lo podemos confirmar tanto con el diseño de los personajes, la paleta fría y variada de colores, los tonos claros, los planos fijos y con muy poco movimiento, etc. Tiene también sus detalles visuales bien agregados y la misma serie nos ambienta perfectamente en cada episodio. Los efectos de sonido y la banda sonora que tiene ayudan mucho a esto también.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8.5/10 en lo que respecta al género Slice of Life.

Let’s now talk about another Slice Of Life anime that’s a bit more lively and entertaining, even though its plot isn’t all that interesting. Still, it became one of last year’s most popular or well-known anime outside the typical mainstream genres, for obvious reasons. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Keiichirō Shibuya, Ruri Rocks is an anime adaptation produced by Studio Bind. The anime tells the story of Ruri, a high school student who loves jewelry and meets a graduate student in mineralogy named Nagi Arato.
There’s a category of Slice of Life anime dedicated to a specific niche or area, such as travel and tourism anime, for example. In this case, it’s interesting to come across an anime as unique as Ruri Rocks, which focuses primarily on the fundamentals of mineralogy. The only thing that makes it “eye-catching” in any way are its female characters—who make up the entire cast—and the series itself focuses the audience’s attention on their interest in mineralogy while we watch various Fanservice scenes with shots that are “absolutely necessary for the plot.”
Pasemos a hablar ahora de otro anime del género Slice of Life un poco más movido y entretenido, aunque con una trama no tan interesante. Aún así, llegó a ser de los animes más populares o conocidos del año pasado que no son de los típicos géneros populares debido a obvias razones. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Keiichirō Shibuya, Ruri Rocks es una adaptación animada producida por Studio Bind. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Ruri, una estudiante de secundaria que le gustan las joyas y conoce a una postgrado de mineralogía llamada Nagi Arato.
Hay una sección de animes Slice of Life que están dedicados a un nicho o área en específico, como lo es el caso de los animes de viajes y turismo, por ejemplo. En este caso, es interesante toparse con un anime tan particular como lo es Ruri Rocks que trata mayormente de las bases de la mineralogía. Lo único que lo hace “llamativo” de alguna forma son sus personajes femeninos, las cuales son todo el elenco que tiene esta obra y que la misma serie centra la atención del público a sus intereses por la mineralogía mientras vemos distintas escenas de Fanservice con planos “completamente necesarios para la trama”.

You know, that cheap visual gimmick to easily sell you a show that probably wouldn’t have become nearly as popular as this anime did—precisely because of that very reason. Sexualization and Fanservice are already commonplace in this massive industry, but it’s really unfortunate to see them use this tactic for shows that already have more than enough to stand out on their own, like Ruri Rocks. Although, of course, you tell me—who would actually want to watch an anime with beautiful waifus chipping away at shiny rocks on a mountain without any Fanservice or other eye-catching gimmicks? So I partly understand why they use this, but come on, it’s not that big of a deal, for heaven’s sake.
Anyway, aside from all that, the anime is visually entertaining, as well as very educational. It’s impossible to watch this anime without learning something about mineralogy—seriously. The studio in charge also did a spectacular job with the animation, character design, color palette, visual style, and the incredible fluidity of the animation itself. The shots, views, surroundings, and other elements in this anime are fascinating, as they really bring every outdoor space and location to life. The sound effects and soundtrack are just as impressive.
Personally, I’d give it a rating of 8.7/10 in the “Slice of Life” and adventure genres.
Ya saben, ese truco visual barato para venderte fácilmente una obra que seguramente no llegaría a ser para nada popular como lo llegó a ser este anime debido a esto mismo. La sexualización y el Fanservice es algo común ya en esta gran industria, pero es muy lamentable ver qué utilicen este recurso para obras que ya de por sí tienen lo suficiente para destacarse como lo es Ruri Rocks. Aunque, claro, ya me dirás tú quién le interesaría ver un anime con waifus hermosas picando piedras brillantes en una montaña sin nada de Fanservice o cualquier otro recurso llamativo. Así que entiendo en parte que utilicen esto, pero tampoco es para tanto, por Dios.
En fin, aparte de todo esto, el anime sí es entretenido a nivel visual, además de ser muy educativo. Es imposible que veas este anime sin aprender nada de la mineralogía, de verdad. El estudio a cargo también hizo un trabajo espectacular con la animación, el diseño de los personajes, la paleta de colores, el estilo visual y la increíble fluidez que tienen la misma. Los planos, vistas, alrededores y demás elementos que tiene este anime son fascinantes ya que nos muestra muy bien cada espacio y lugar del exterior. Los efectos de sonido y la banda sonora que tiene este anime tampoco se quedan atrás.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8.7/10 en lo que respecta al género Slice of Life y aventura.

Let’s continue with another Slice of Life anime that really entertained me last year—and that I even consider one of my favorites on this list. It’s an anime that hooked me pretty quickly, despite its simple plot and lighthearted but funny humor. Based on the four-panel manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Afro, Mono is an animated adaptation produced by studio Soigne. The anime tells the story of Satsuki Amamiya, a member of the Photography Club who seeks to escape her monotonous life while photographing spectacular views.
This is an example of the kind of travel-themed Slice of Life anime I mentioned above. Unlike most other anime of this style, Mono is particularly special because it has a plot that hooks you right from the start. This may be due to the way the characters are introduced and developed—they’re nothing out of the ordinary, aside from being funny and easily impressed. The fact that the anime features young high school students as its protagonists gives us a clear sense of the show’s target audience. Yet even so, it never bores us with typical clichés or melodrama.
Continuemos con otro anime más del género Slice of Life que me entretuvo bastante el año pasado y que incluso lo considero uno de mis favoritos de esta lista. Un anime que me enganchó bastante rápido, a pesar de su trama sencilla y su humor ligero, pero divertido. Basada en la serie de manga homónima de cuatro viñetas escrita e ilustrada por Afro, Mono es una adaptación animada producida por el estudio Soigne. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Satsuki Amamiya, quien es miembro del Club de Fotografía y busca distraerse de su vida monótona mientras fotografía vistas espectaculares.
Este es un ejemplo de ese tipo de animes Slice of Life con temática de viajes que les mencioné arriba. A diferencia de la mayoría de otros animes de este estilo, Mono es particularmente especial debido a que posee una trama que te engancha muy bien desde el principio. Esto puede deberse a la forma en la que presentan y desarrollan a sus personajes, los cuales no tienen nada en especial, más allá de ser graciosos y fáciles de impresionar. Que el anime tenga como protagonistas a jóvenes estudiantes de secundaria es algo que nos pone en perspectiva el público objetivo de la obra. Pero aún con esto no nos aburre con clichés típicos ni nada de melodramas.

The anime is entertaining because it’s easy to follow—there isn’t much plot development, and the episodes focus solely on which part of Japan the characters plan to visit to take photos, enjoy the local cuisine, and take in the magnificent scenery. As I’ve already told you, there’s nothing else particularly relevant or interesting to see in this series, and that’s exactly why I love it. It might seem boring to you, but the way it hooks you with funny scenes, witty dialogue, and entertaining characters is fascinating. I also like that it has a linear, easy-to-follow plot, since you never get lost or distracted from what’s most important.
And yes, the main focus of this anime is the beautiful, breathtaking landscapes shown in every episode. Beyond that, there are the various adventures our group of photographers embarks on to these locations. The audiovisual presentation also perfectly complements the travel-focused plot, offering excellent views that are highly detailed, colorful, and very smooth. In addition to the characters’ charming and endearing designs and the incredible fluidity of the series for the most part, we also get to enjoy the amazing shots and panoramic views shown in every episode. The sound effects and soundtrack are also excellent.
Personally, I give it a rating of 9.2/10 in the comedy and Slice of Life genres.
El anime es entretenido porque es fácil de seguir, sin tanto desarrollo y episodios dedicados únicamente a qué parte de Japón piensan viajar para tomar fotografías, disfrutar de la gastronomía y los grandioso paisajes que tienen. Como ya les dije, no tienen nada más relevante o interesante que ver en esta obra y es por eso que me fascina. Puede que te parezca aburrido, pero su forma de engancharse con escenas graciosas, diálogos ocurrentes y personajes entretenidos es fascinante. También me gusta que tenga ese patrón lineal y fácil de seguir en su trama ya que no te pierdes ni te distraes de lo que es primordial.
Y si, lo primordial en este anime son los hermosos y grandiosos paisajes que nos muestran en cada episodio. Aparte de esto también tenemos las diferentes aventuras que tienen nuestro grupo de fotógrafas hacia dichos lugares. También está el apartado audiovisual que respalda muy bien dicha trama de los viajes, dándonos excelentes vistas, muy bien detalladas, coloridas y bastante fluidas. Aparte el diseño carismático y tierno de los personajes y la fluidez increíble que tiene la obra en su mayoría, también tenemos los planos y vistas panorámicas increíbles que nos muestran en cada episodio. Los efectos de sonido y la banda sonora también son excelentes.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9.2/10 en lo que respecta al género de comedia y Slice of Life.

Let’s move on to a very, very underrated anime that aired last year and that I really enjoyed. It’s a story of personal development, growth, and overcoming challenges—one that’s definitely worth checking out, with some great life lessons at the end. Based on the manga series of the same name written by Ayano Takeda and illustrated by Musshu, Flower and Asura is an anime adaptation produced by Studio Bind. The anime tells the story of Hana Haruyama, a high school student who lives on a remote island and loves reading and poetry recitals.
As you’ve just read, this anime differs from the ones mentioned earlier in one particular aspect: character development. More specifically, it incorporates elements of the “Coming-on-age” subgenre, which can also be described as growth or development. Personally, I find this to be the opposite—and more appealing—of the “Slice of Life” genre, since, unlike in other works, here we do see significant growth in the characters we meet throughout the story. Flower and Ashura is a fascinating tale of growth and self-improvement, presented with a literary and interpretive style that is sublime in its own right.
Sigamos con un anime muy, pero muy infravalorado que se emitió el año pasado y que disfruté un montón. Una historia de desarrollo, crecimiento y superación que es digno de conocer con buenas lecciones de vida al final. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita por Ayano Takeda e ilustrada por Musshu, Flower and Asura es una adaptación animada producida por Studio Bind. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Hana Haruyama, una estudiante de preparatoria que vive en una isla apartada y que le encanta la lectura y los recitales.
Como acaban de leer, este anime se diferencia de los anteriores mencionados por un detalle en particular: desarrollo de personaje. Más en específico, posee una mezcla del subgénero “Coming on Age” que se puede traducir también como crecimiento o desarrollo. Es el caso contrario y más atractivo, en lo personal, del Slice of Life, ya que a diferencia de los demás aquí sí vemos un desarrollo notable en los personajes que conocemos en esta historia. Flower and Asura es un caso fascinante de crecimiento y superación, pero con un estilo literario e interpretativo que es sublime por sí mismo.

The anime might bore you at first, since it maintains that monotonous pace without many plot twists or dramatic scenes. But then it gives us moments that are simply breathtaking—and the most amazing thing is that they’re just simple scenes of readings or recitals. But that’s about it, really; it’s not like we get any deep melodrama or many shocking moments throughout its twelve episodes. It’s an anime that stands out simply for its story and the unique way it develops its protagonist. On top of that, we meet various characters who are quite memorable.
I’d love to tell you that it offers more than just reading sessions or more than a couple of plot twists, but that’s not the case. Still, I really loved this anime because it visually conveys the protagonist’s various emotions, problems, and struggles. On the other hand, the audiovisual aspects also stand out quite well. The character designs, the animation style, and the various shots and perspectives are all fascinating. The varied and vibrant color palette also stands out, as do the visual effects, smooth animation, and sound effects.
Personally, I'd give it a 9.5/10 when it comes to the "Slice Of Life" genre.
El anime puede que te aburra con su inicio, ya que mantiene ese ritmo monótono y sin muchos giros de trama o escenarios dramáticos. Pero luego nos dan momentos que son simplemente impresionantes y lo más alucinante es que son simples escenas de lecturas o recitales. Pero eso sería todo, la verdad, no es que contemos con un melodrama profundo ni muchos momentos impactantes a lo largo de sus doce episodios. Es un anime que destaca simplemente por su historia y la forma tan particular de desarrollar a su protagonista. Además de esto, conocemos a distintos personajes que destacan bastante bien.
Me gustaría decirles que tiene algo más que simples sesiones de lecturas o más de un par de giros de trama, pero no es así. Aún así, me encantó bastante este anime ya que nos muestra de forma visual las distintas emociones, problemas y luchas que tiene la protagonista. Por otro lado, también tenemos el apartado audiovisual que logra destacarse bastante bien. Tanto el diseño de los personajes como el estilo de animación y los distintos planos y vistas que posee es fascinante. La paleta variada y brillante de colores también destacan bastante, al igual que sucede con los efectos visuales, fluidez y efectos de sonido.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9.5/10 en lo que respecta al género Slice of Life.

We’re wrapping up this TOP list in the best possible way with the latest animated adaptation of a work that has spanned the 20th and 21st centuries with a fantastic, perfect story that everyone should know. An anime that I consider to be the pinnacle of the “Slice Of Life” genre. Based on the first three books of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables (1908), Anne Shirley is an animated adaptation produced by The Answer Studio. The anime tells the story of Anne, a red-haired orphan who is mistakenly adopted by an elderly brother-and-sister duo living in a cottage known as Green Gables.
At first, I had no idea what I was watching; I thought it was just another run-of-the-mill anime with a somewhat comical and dramatic story. But as the episodes aired, I began to realize it was much more than that. Anne Shirley is, without a doubt, the perfect example of the aforementioned “Coming-of-Age” subgenre, as it tells the story of Anne’s life—a boisterous and restless girl who goes through a lot from a young age, ultimately becoming a woman admired and respected by many. Personally, it’s hard to categorize this series as a simple “Slice Of Life,” since it has many elements of drama, comedy, romance, and even a bit of adventure.
Cerramos este TOP de la mejor manera con la última adaptación animada de una obra que ha trascendido los siglos XX y XXI con una historia fantástica y perfecta que todos debemos conocer. Un anime que es definido -por mí- como la cúspide del género Slice of Life. Basada en los tres primeros libros de Anne de la Tejas Verdes (1908) de Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne Shirley es una adaptación animada producida por The Answer Studio. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Anne, una huérfana de cabello rojizo que es adoptada por error por una pareja de hermanos de tercera edad que viven en una cabaña conocida como Las Tejas Verdes.
En su momento no tenía idea de lo que estaba viendo, pensaba que era un anime más del montón con una historia algo cómica y dramática. Pero con el paso de los episodios que se emitían empecé a notar que era mucho más que eso. Anne Shirley es en definitiva el ejemplo perfecto del ya mencionado subgénero “Coming on Age” ya que nos cuenta la historia de la vida de Anne, una chica ruidosa e inquieta que pasa por un montón de cosas desde pequeña que la convierten en una mujer admirada y respetada por muchos. En lo personal es difícil catalogar esta obra como un simple Slice of Life, ya que tiene muchos matices de drama, comedia, romance e incluso algo de aventura.

But all of this is simply proof that her story is one that’s absolutely worth seeing and getting to know. You’ll either love or hate the protagonist at first, but her life will make you rethink many things by the end. Her story isn’t just about personal growth and overcoming obstacles—it’s something deeper and more meaningful. It’s the perfect example of how anyone, no matter where they come from, can achieve anything through their own strength, dedication, and with the help of the right people who support them. The anime also features a cast of memorable characters who have left a lasting impression.
This adaptation stands out not only for its great story and excellent characters but also for its distinctive animation style. Both the character designs and the vibrant, varied color palette are fascinating. There’s also the art style, camera angles, views, landscapes, and visual and motion effects. The anime may not have the smoothest animation or the best animation in the world, but it manages to stand out from most others because of how well-produced the series is overall. It also has good sound effects, but beyond that is its soundtrack, which is unbeatable.
Personally, I give it a well-deserved 10/10 rating in the genres of slice-of-life, comedy, drama, and romance.
Pero todo esto no es más que la prueba de que su historia es una historia que vale toda la pena del mundo ver y conocer. Amarás u odiarás a la protagonista al principio, pero su vida te hará replantearte muchas cosas al final. Si historia no es solo de desarrollo y superación nomás, sino que es algo más profundo y significativo. Es el ejemplo perfecto de que cualquier persona, sin importar de dónde venga, puede lograr lo que sea con sus propias fuerzas, dedicación y con la ayuda de la gente adecuada que te apoya. El anime también posee un elenco de personajes memorables que pasaron a la posteridad.
Esta adaptación no solo resalta por tener una gran historia y muy buenos personajes, sino también porque tiene un estilo de animación que resalta bastante. Tanto el diseño de los personajes como también la paleta de colores vibrantes y variados que tiene son fascinantes. También está el estilo de dibujo, planos, vistas, paisajes y efectos visuales y de movimiento que tiene. El anime no tendrá la mejor fluidez ni la mejor animación del mundo, pero logra destacarse de la mayoría por lo bien producida que está la serie en general. Tiene también buenos efectos de sonido, pero más allá de eso está su banda sonora que es insuperable.
Personalmente, le doy una merecida calificación de 10/10 en lo que respecta al género Slice of Life, comedia, drama y romance.
