Roman used to be a generic content creator on YouTube, but one day he uploaded a cooking video, and people liked what he did. However, the fans he gathered started to get bored, so to keep things interesting, Roman became a caricature of himself.
As usual, he adjusted the camera and flashed his signature manic smile.
He was no longer a conventional cook; in the wild and unpredictable ecosystem of the internet, he was known as the "Extreme Chef"
His followers were still commenting on his latest viral video, where he made the world's largest omelet using a construction crane. But Roman knew he could go further:
"The algorithm is an insatiable beast; extreme spectacle is the fuel that feeds it" he said in his last interview.
But no one could have imagined that his new challenge would be dangerously extreme...
In his $5,000 home, he prepared his kitchen studio to surprise his subscribers.
"Welcome to the kitchen! Today we're going to break absolutely every limit. If you thought the giant omelet was crazy, get ready for today's ultimate challenge: Stir-fried vegetables over infernal heat" he said to the camera lens, gripping a heavy iron wok.
The live stream’s chat began flooding with comments.
"The rules are simple: as long as you keep donating money, I’ll keep grilling vegetables nonstop. Let's see who gives up first: the stove, the veggies, or you!"
After saying this, Roman simultaneously turned on all six industrial burners in his kitchen to maximum power.
Roman threw a giant bowl filled with peppers, onions, and broccoli into the blazing wok. The sizzle was deafening. Flames rose dangerously high, sending embers into the air every time the chef tossed the ingredients. While cooking, his phone rang.
"Oh, thanks D4rkG4mer_99 for those fifty dollars! Come on, don’t let me cool off this pan!" Roman said, coughing slightly as a dense, spicy smoke began to form.
After an hour of nonstop tossing, stirring, and flames at full blast, the kitchen had turned into a real furnace.
The extreme heat was suffocating; Roman struggled to breathe and sweat poured down, but his eyes were fixed on the side monitor where donation numbers kept climbing.
Suddenly, a predictable disaster happened. Shaking the wok too hard, a flare-up veered off, and embers began burning one of the wooden shelves.
"Oh God... Uh, looks like we’ve got a little extra fire over here! Hehe, it’s okay, nothing to worry about, the show must go on!" Roman exclaimed nervously laughing as a packet of napkins and some recipe books caught fire.
The fire did not stop—in seconds, a blaze broke out in the kitchen. Flames climbed the cabinets, and thick black smoke spread throughout the house.
Any sensible person would have dropped the pan and run. But Roman hesitated; he was about to run for his life, but his eyes widened as he looked at his computer screen.
The chaos had gone viral in minutes. The number of viewers watching him cook amid a fire multiplied by two hundred.
"What...? Is this real? Five million people?! Almost five million viewers!" he shouted at the camera, ignoring the flames behind him.
Donation alerts fell like rain, thousands of dollars pouring into his account every second.
"Roman, get out of there!" many viewers pleaded in the chat.
"No way!" he replied, grabbing another pile of fresh vegetables even as the ceiling started to burn.
The sound of sirens approaching grew louder; firefighters, alerted by dozens of terrified viewers, broke down the front door with their axes.
"Fire in the kitchen! Sir, drop that and come out!" a firefighter yelled as he rushed into the kitchen.
"Wait, someone just donated a thousand dollars for me to add extra soy sauce!" Roman responded, coughing violently.
"Get out now!" the firefighter yelled.
They dragged him out as high-pressure hoses doused the flames.
Minutes later, Roman sat in the ambulance. Covered in soot and wearing an oxygen mask, he was miraculously unharmed—without a single serious burn.
"You were lucky to get out alive, kid. Your life was in danger and now you’re homeless. Was this stupidity worth it?" an older firefighter scolded, pointing at the charred house.
Roman removed the mask, looked at his cracked phone screen, and smiled broadly at the huge bank balance.
"Definitely worth it" Roman replied genuinely happy.
