Venezuela's policy in 1948 was one of open doors, Europe was destroyed, and the ravages of World War II were still shaking the old continent. Venezuela and its skilled labor migration policy opened the doors to thousands of Europeans. The State not only allowed the entry of millions of migrants, but also financially supported many families. Our country was always noble.

Of those families from the once-millionaire Venezuela, thousands own large businesses in the country. Majestic is one of those businesses that has been maintained for more than 70 years. It is part of the culture and, for me, heritage of the city of Barquisimeto. It is one of the pastry shops and coffee shops with the greatest cultural value. Furthermore, it represents what we were, built and are. A symbol that resists despite the social, political and economic complexity of the last decades. Majestic has been in operation since 1948.

Originally, Majestic was located in the old San José Building. Subsequently, they moved to streets 19, between streets 30 and 31, where they have remained immovable. The reason for the move was the success of the change of management to Mrs. de Gerhardt. Mrs. Gerhardt acquired Majestic from a Swiss family. At that moment, the history of the most relevant bakery and coffee shop in the city of Barquisimeto began.

I had visited Majestic since I was a child and even walked past its iconic wooden facade. It is a place that attracts attention, persists in an overwhelming environment, and today devours everything that is long-lived. Downtown Barquisimeto every year has lost its identity and has become a chaotic space that does not value its history. Not because of the fault of the Barquisimeto, but because of the planning policies of the municipality.

Leaving aside the context, I visited Majestic to have a delicious coffee and breakfast. I took advantage of that moment to photograph its facade and show my appreciation for its brand identity. The facade, as always, stands out, even though the brand logo at the top is worn out.

One thing that struck me was that Christmas had already arrived at Majestic. There were decorations that, despite overloading the space, made the establishment look like one of those movie places from the early 2000s. Even, very Harry Potter-esque, is what first came to mind when I saw the decorations.

Clearly, you can tell that Majestic retains its identity in the interior design of the bakery and coffee shop. Everything is very traditional, quaint and above all, very linked to the culture of the old European continent. I must emphasize that wood predominates in Majestic as a material and design element.

I went to breakfast with my brother, my uncle and his wife. We all ordered lattes and, in the case of my brother and I, we ordered cream cheese croissants and ham. This was what the waitress offered us, there was no need to ask her for the menu, as we were going straight to breakfast and hot coffee.

While waiting for the croissants and coffee, I was talking to my brother about the longevity of the place. He had not been in this place and, since he migrated, he had not had the opportunity to know it. He liked the interior design, but remarked to me about the overload of Christmas decorations. I couldn't object to that detail.

We waited approximately 7 minutes for our order. The coffee, as always, maintained the identity of the cups, plates and mugs. Majestic has a specific decoration that identifies their brand on the utensils. Every guaro (idiom from Laredo), that is, Barquisimeto, identifies this cup by its design.

As I mentioned above, I ordered a large coffee with milk. Nothing different from what I usually drink. The coffee had its respective sugar sachets. By the way, the sugar is the same brand: Majestic. In addition, I had a heart-shaped cookie made with cinnamon. It was tasty as always. The last time I went to Majestic was about two years ago.

In the case of the croissants, they were not perfect. The dough felt a bit floury. I didn't really like its texture; however, as I bit into it, that changed due to the flavor of the cream cheese and ham. It is a small detail that you should consider regarding the croissant, if I had to rate it, it would be four out of ten points. The presentation was moderate.

In the case of attention, the service was modest, pleasant and attentive. This detail is still maintained at Majestic. It was the first time I tried their croissants; I had always had their cakes, which were delicious. On this occasion I did not order any sweets because it was too early; it will be for a future occasion.

I paid 11 USD, or HBD, for four coffees, and four croissants in Venezuelan legal tender. Majestic is a perfect place to connect, relax, converse and enjoy the best experience. Most of all, to appreciate the past and the way the culture of a small city has been built.
