Sometimes it can be hard to see your own faults or to look at what you can be doing better. And sometimes it can be easy to see what needs to be changed as there are obvious signs. Unfortunately I'm not 25 anymore and it's not as easy to stay skinny as it used to be.

Back then i could eat and drink what i wanted and i was so active that it didn't make a difference. They were the good years. And we made the most of them too. Out every night, lots of take-aways a solid party lifestyle from any angle. But all good things must come to an end so now that i'm closer to forty than thirty it's not as easy anymore.

Now i'm working full time. Busy life, two kids and a house to maintain. No rest days and no sports bar a little golf. Not enough to balance out the unhealthy side of my life at least. My work is physical but i'm so tired outside of working hours that i eat more crap for energy and throw myself on the couch when we finally get the kids to bed.

The scales are very much leaning in the wrong direction for calories in vs calories out. And when that happens it can only go one way.

I would say that they have become habits to have something nice with my lunch at work. To have something sweet with my evening tea. To go for pints when we finish work a bit early. All small by themselves but can add up quite fast when your lifestyle goes the wrong direction.

Habit formation is the process by which behaviors become automatic. Habits can form without a person intending to acquire them, but they can also be deliberately cultivated—or eliminated—to better suit one’s personal goals.

Seeing the problems is the first challenge. I can see where the problems lie.

  • Not enough sleep.

  • Not drinking enough water.

  • Too many hours on my arse.

  • Too many snacks.

  • Having treats too often.

The sleep one is a big issue as i struggle to sleep anyway. Even if i go to bed early i just wake up earlier. Then the days i could get more sleep one of the kids wakes up early and me with them. Hard to fix and not a habit.

The water i can tackle a lot easier and drink more of it. I used to always see the gym guys with their big water bottle but even having a 2L at work and then drink the same at home would help the body. Clear the system and quench the hunger.

The hours on my arse can be fixed especially if i can build up my energy again. I've never been as tired as the past few months so getting that back on track is mission number one. A better diet and more sleep should help.

The snacks and treats go hand in hand. Back in the day i could just not have anything in the house. It was the easiest way to control it as i always go for the nice press is i know there is good stuff in there. Now the girlfriends buys snacks. People visit and always brings sweets and treats for the house which i hate to see. Then they are in the house and i wont just throw it in the bin. Not a fan of waste and we need a few for the kids and guests. This will have to come down to will power and just walk away form the press or have healthier options ready to go.

They are just habits that have been formed and once i know what to focus on i can change them.

I haven't gone too far down the road that i can't lose the weight over a few months. It's just that it needs to happen now before it gets to that stage. It's all about changing those small habits which will have the most effect.

Nothing in here is hard to do it just takes some effort and will power.

Nobody needs to be a saint or a bodybuilder but i don't want to be walking around with load of weight either. Not for a few more years at least.
