The world we live in today has continued to advance with the rapid growth of tech and artificial intelligence, which we see today. It's no longer news that this advancement is posing a threat to some job opportunities that humans occupy. It becomes important that learners stay intentional while choosing their courses of study in colleges and universities going forward.

I agree to some extent that AI won't totally replace humans in all sectors, but with what we have today, AI is going to outperform humans in different sectors as we keep going. This is why in this post, I will mention some courses that seem irrelevant to spend years of study in the university, at least in my country, Nigeria.

Even before technology and artificial intelligence started taking over the workforce, most of the so-called professional courses in my country have proven hard to secure jobs with after spending years in the university, except you have one godfather in the government. This is why you see a biochemist teaching in the secondary schools, among other professionals. People here hardly practice what they studied in school due to the level of unemployment in our country. Now imagine our world with AI in full force; no one should be told to stick with courses or skills that are likely not going to be overtaken completely by AI.

Courses like Secretarial Studies are one of those courses that are no longer needed with this current tech and AI advancement. My younger sister studied this course at the university for four years, and I was asking her the other day her plan for the future due to the way our world kept evolving with technology. The truth is that this course is about office administration, whereby the secretary schedules an appointment with the client, enters some data, and keeps records. Now, you and I know well that AI can do this job better and more accurately. So to remain relevant in a tech-driven world, it's better to embrace it—better say upgrade software skills for someone who did this course and of course , not a good entry for someone who is still considering a course to choose talking about the future and AI.

Another course that wouldn't be needed anymore is agriculture or agri economist, just like a close friend of mine did and is now selling human hair. Look at how the agricultural sector is becoming easier with technology. Obviously, this course is a no-no, less relevant to consider going forward. Whatever humans can do manually to increase agricultural productivity, definitely AI can do it double, so there wouldn't be any need for manual labor in this regard, so what's the point of spending years in the university studying agriculture?

What about marketing? Gone are the days when people should consider this course of study, please, because digital and data-driven marketing is all over the net, doing diligent work around marketing with the use of social media. So you see, the course is becoming less relevant nowadays.

There are other courses in this category, and while we can't stop this tech advancement, we can do well to channel our energy into skills related to technology so we can remain relevant in our own world no matter how much we experience advancement.

In summary, technology will keep advancing, rendering many courses and jobs irrelevant. What we just need to do is simply go with the flow.

This is my response to the #hivelearners community contest on the topic titled, NOT NEEDED
