Those services you dedicate your time, your skill, your energy, etc. without expecting any form of compensation in return are regarded as voluntary services. This kind of service is not limited to our community but cuts across the elderly, the handicapped, and so on, bearing in mind that the act of service to others is also a gift to us. However, I am going to discuss today about one time when I went out for volunteered community service.
Volunteering for community service has a way of bringing the community members together regardless of our different tribes and cultures, age gaps, and genders. Even the rich and the poor who find this kind of service important gather together in unity to carry out a particular need that arises in the community for the good of everyone. You can count me in anytime when there's a call for a service to foster the growth of our community. However, the one time I went out for volunteer service in my community, I was the person who indirectly made the volunteer work happen. It's been a few years, and I will quickly tell you how it came about.

Then, we didn't have regular cleaners in our community as it is now. Everyone goes about their daily activities, and while some people are intentional about not discarding nylon and plastic on the streets, some people do not care. This nonchalant attitude from some members of our community became the norm, and later the gutters were filled with gabbages, affecting the drainage system. Some people's homes were flooded during the rainy season.
One day, I thought of the effects of this littering of our environment and boldly approached our community chairman. I had a discussion with him, and he saw reasons with me and the had to make the community members aware of their actions. So the chairman called for a community urgent meeting, and in the meeting, the issue of community cleaning services was raised. Surprisingly, a lot of people welcomed the idea, and thus, there was a massive turnout on the cleaning day.

After the community cleaning services that very day, it was a collective agreement to hire community cleaners, whereas each house paid a particular amount monthly for their service. I felt satisfied to have participated in keeping our community environment clean and being a part of the committee that established a working structure for having the community cleaned regularly.
Ever since that event, we haven't had another session of community cleaning since the paid cleaners are always available. However, the practical session we did was an eye-opener to many community members, and they saw the need to contribute to keeping the environment clean, especially by not discarding their garbage inappropriately.
In summary, I have been a good advocate of volunteer work in my community, and if I should have to do community cleaning again, I wouldn't mind engaging in it, likewise encouraging others to take part in promoting a healthy environment for healthy living.
