Hello everyone, how are you? I hope you're all well. I'm back to visit a traditional house at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park). You know, in a previous post, that Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park) has a caprika (a type of traditional house) from Indonesia. Well, this time I visited South Sumatra Province.
South Sumatra is commonly known as the Srivijaya Kingdom, which was the largest and most powerful maritime empire in Indonesia. South Sumatra is home to Lake Ranau, the largest volcanic lake—not the first, but the second largest in Indonesia after Lake Toba.

The house itself is still called a limas house, just like the house I reviewed previously. This limas house houses various South Sumatran cultural artifacts, such as the king's seat, traditional clothing, songket cloth, the genitalia, and so on. The unique feature of this house is its floor structure, which rises from the front to the center, known as Kekijing.
This section reflects the different functions of each floor. The front floor was used for the general public who wished to meet the king or sultan, while the upper floor was reserved for the royal family who would meet with the king or sultan. There are three traditional houses in this province.

This house is the royal house; the second is the ulu house, also known as the residence for the people in the interior; and the last is the hospital. I will discuss the ulu house next. The ulu house is a traditional residence for the people of the southern interior, reflecting its agrarian character, with a sturdy platform to protect them from the intrusion of wild animals.
The upper floor serves as the living area, while the lower floor is used for storing household tools such as rice pounders, mortars, and so on, as well as for chicken coops and other animal pens. Finally, there is the raft house.

This raft house is used as a resting place on the banks of the Musi, Ogen, or Komeri rivers. It features a simple wooden structure with a shingle roof. It also features a veranda that provides a space for the family to sit and relax while other activities take place.
Well, this place is on the main part, while the kitchen is on the side. More than just a place of shelter for the community, this raft house also serves as a trading place. That's all I can tell you, what do you think of this house?
