A fair is a festival of colors, and if childhood nostalgia is added to that festival, the level of joy increases manifold. That day, I was fortunate enough to go to one such folk fair. When I stepped into the fair premises with my family, pushing aside the busyness of mechanical life, the hustle and bustle around me and the colorful atmosphere instantly made my mind feel better. As soon as I entered the fair, I saw rows of aesthetic shops, but among all of them, the traditional clay toy shops attracted me the most.

There, I saw various types of clay toys that were very beautiful and skillfully made. These clay dolls, fruits and vegetables have been one of the main features of Bengali fairs for ages. The perfect shape of the toys arranged in the shops and the use of bright colors were truly worth seeing. The small clay mangoes, jams, jackfruits, watermelons, carrots, papayas and green chillies looked so realistic that at first glance, anyone would mistake them for real fruits or vegetables. With the touch of the craftsman's hand, each ordinary piece of clay seemed to have acquired a lively form. These clay toys looked very attractive.

My children also went to the fair with me. Seeing these wonderful and colorful clay toys outside the screen-based toys of the digital age, they seemed to have discovered a new world. There was no limit to their joy when they held the toys that looked exactly like the red and bright chilies, green bitter gourds and white eggs made of clay. They bought several clay toys of their choice from the fair. My children were very happy to receive the clay dolls and toys. The unwavering and innocent smiles on their faces made my joy at the fair even more meaningful.

Our traditional folk crafts are almost disappearing in urban life. If I hadn't gone to the fair, I wouldn't have realized how beautiful these fine clay crafts are even today amidst the crowd of plastic toys. Introducing children to this authentic tradition of clay and seeing their happy faces was the biggest achievement of this fair for me. All in all, the day will forever remain a colorful day in our family's memories.
