When I saw the topic of this week's prompt, I just laughed out loud ๐
Expect an apology from an average Nigerian mom? Naah, that's like wishing for the sun to produce cold heat and blow cold air towards the earth. It's not making sense right? Impossible yeah? There's nothing like a cold heat yeah? I hope you get my point now. Lol.

The worst is, when you get into an argument with her. If you are young, then her slippers will be your companion, but if you are above the age of being flogged, then she will either report you to your dad (trust me, you dont want that to happen) or she will use her trump card. "I carried you for 9 months and gave you these breasts to suck (while holding her breast in anger), so you have to shut up and do as i say because i know what is best for you."
This statement always weakens the soul and keeps the mind on hold, as she tells you everything she wants, and you obey without complaints. Works on me all the time. Haha.
By the way, Nigerian children hardly grow past the age of being flogged. I know of a friend that still receives good slaps from his dad, even at age 23. Yeah, good slaps ๐
There is one thing about we Nigerians that is very unique. Especially within our parents.
Nonetheless, I love my mom regardless.
I can not remember any time that I got annoyed by what my mom did, talk more of expecting an apology. Prolly because i always overlook everything, knowing fully well that my efforts to get an apology out of her mouth will be in vain.
Anyways......
Growing up, I hated the fact that my mom do give me what I needed. I wanted to at least, be able to get myself some things without asking my mom.
There was this bicycle that got my attention. It was a really nice one. Back then, any kid that has a bicycle, automatically becomes the king of other kids.
Other kids will always be around him, just to get a chance to ride on his bicycle.
Not wasting time, I started saving money in my mom's hands, for the bicycle. Any time I got 50 naira or hundred naira, I will rush up to her and hand over the money. When I gave her the money, I will go to my book, there, I will document how much I gave her, the time and date that i gave her the money.
The price of the bicycle was around 12 thousand naira back then. So, I decided to save up about fifteen thousand naira because I knew that the price may increase with time.
My savings continued for about 2 to 3 months, and I was able to completely save up the money. I saved up more than what I wanted to save. About 16 thousand naira.
When I realized that the money has reached that extent, I went straight to my mom with my book where I documented the savings.
I greeted her with a very happy face, and she replied casually.
I then asked her about my savings, while trying to open my book to page one, where i began the documentation. I told her to just give me 15k and use the remaining to buy some soft drinks for herself.
The question I heard from her was unbelievable.
Which savings? She asked with a look on her face.
Shocked, I responded to her. The money I was saving with you. The one I told you that I wanted to use and buy a bicycle for my self.
The food you have been eating, the clothes you have been wearing, your hair cut, your cream and other things, where did you think it came from?
At this point, my eyes was really watery. I knew the fact that if I got annoyed, I will be flogged and if I make her annoyed, I will still be flogged.
So, with a tearful eyes, I barged out, while slamming the door.
I refused to talk to her or anybody. I refused to at her food. An funny enough, she played it cool as if she didn't care. Hunger showed me who was boss, so I reluctantly went to the kitchen at night to eat something. Seems like she noticed me but she kept mute.
I was hoping bat she will call me to give an apology for using my hard earned money without my consent,or at least, talk to me, but she didn't. I maintained the attitude for some days, until I finally gave up.
When she saw that I have calmed down, she called me. I came to her reluctantly, with a sad face. There, I received a 4 hour Scolding for being rightfully annoyed. After the scolding, she began to pet me, call me sweet names, which brightened my mood. She then told me to go to her room. She said anything I saw in her room that I liked, would be mine.
What will I like in her room? I asked myself. I went on anyways, just to obey her.
Lo and behold, a new bicycle.
I didn't see that there in the morning before I went to school. I was surprised and very happy at the same time. I brought out the bicycle, rushed to her and gave her a huge huge while shouting, "mummy you are the best mom ever." Lol.
I saw that smile in her face and it made me even happier..
Instead of her to give an apology, she got me a bicycle. Well, to me, I prefer the bicycle instead of the apology. Hehe
This is my entry to the hive naija prompt.
