Growing up in an African home, i was surronded by many different myths. No cap, my country is a developing country, eveb, it is more developed compared to many countries in Africa, but, the myth have not left the people of my country, especially within the igbos.

Over the years, there are many stories that have been told to me about super natural beings. Some about mermaids and the power they posses, some about the illuminati, which the story teller claim to lead people to hell, and many many many more stories.

To a large extent, these stories greatly affected the way i lead my life. Before, i stopped listening to Hip-hop and any other foreign music because it was said that the illuminati gas their base of residence between these rappers and singers, thus, listening to their songs will get you a straight ticket to hell. Thankfully, with further growth, and some experience, i was able to get past that genjutsu.

About 4 months ago, i went to my village to see how things are over there. One cool evening, we were sitting outside, i and my friends, and we were chit-chatting when they brought up the topic of mermaids.

This is a normal talk in my community, so i paid no mind to it. I dont actually believe in all those things. while discussing, they talked about people that originate frome water, earht, sky and moon. This is not the first time i heard something like this, so i just kept shut and avoided the discussion, because i am sure of my self that i will argue against the notion.

They kept talking, saying that mermaids do live in our local river where we go to swim, and it kills visitors, if they go deep into the river. They said that it can also kill indigienes, if they offend it. I laughed in my mind, calling them psycho's.

After a month or so, I went back to the village. One night, i was inside my room while it rained. The rain was not that heavy, but the thunder strikes that followed was really intense, not only intense, but it struck for an extended period of time.

In the olden days, the time of my ancestors, it is said that the village gods, Amadioha, uses thunder to perform judgement on anyone who does evil.

When the thunder was stricking, i thought it was the return of Amadioha. Maybe somebody was being judged, little did i know that somebody was actually being killed.

After along night of thunder strick, the next day, we got news that two people were affected. One killed and the other severely injured, almost at the point of death.

Reason for this is because, the father to the affected children, went to the river to carry the lifeless body of his brothers son, without performing the neccessary rituals to appease the mermaid that lives in the river.

It is said that the dead person went to the river, and took something that was meant for the mermaid. Some people came to do sacrifice in the river, after the sacrifice, they sprayed money. Some money entered the river, while some was on the ground. The dead person (when he was alive), after charging them a fee for using the river to sacrifice, he went and pick the money that fell on the ground, also, entered into the river to carry the money that floats on it. After picking the mony, he went home. few days later, he went back to the river and that was how he died.

I was actually surprised and dumbfounded. After the event, i refused to stay in the village again. I just packed my stuff and went back to where i came from.

Currently, i now see things from a different perspective. I now believe in the existence of the super natural. I dont want anything to do with them.

A lo largo de los años, son muchas las historias que me han contado sobre seres sobrenaturales. Algunas sobre sirenas y el poder que poseen, otras sobre los Illuminati, que el narrador afirma que llevan a la gente al infierno, y muchas, muchas, muchas historias más.

En gran medida, estas historias afectaron mucho la forma en que llevo mi vida. Antes, dejé de escuchar Hip-hop y cualquier otra música extranjera porque se decía que los Illuminati gaseaban su base de residencia entre estos raperos y cantantes, por lo que escuchar sus canciones te daría un boleto directo al infierno. Afortunadamente, con un mayor crecimiento y algo de experiencia, pude superar ese genjutsu.

Hace unos 4 meses fui a mi pueblo para ver cómo estaban las cosas allí. Una tarde fresca, estábamos sentados afuera, mis amigos y yo, y estábamos charlando cuando sacaron a relucir el tema de las sirenas.

Esta es una charla normal en mi comunidad, así que no le presté atención. En realidad no creo en todas esas cosas. Mientras discutían, hablaron sobre personas que se originan en el agua, la tierra, el cielo y la luna. Esta no es la primera vez que escucho algo como esto, así que me mantuve callado y evité la discusión, porque estoy seguro de que argumentaré en contra de esa idea.

Siguieron hablando, diciendo que las sirenas viven en nuestro río local donde vamos a nadar, y que mata a los visitantes si se adentran en las profundidades del río. Dijeron que también puede matar a los indígenas, si lo ofenden. Me reí mentalmente, llamándolos psicópatas.

Después de aproximadamente un mes, regresé al pueblo. Una noche estaba dentro de mi habitación mientras llovía. La lluvia no fue tan fuerte, pero los truenos que siguieron fueron realmente intensos, no solo intensos, sino que golpearon durante un período prolongado de tiempo.

En la antigüedad, en la época de mis antepasados, se dice que los dioses del pueblo, Amadioha, usaban el trueno para juzgar a cualquiera que hiciera el mal.

Cuando estalló el trueno, pensé que era el regreso de Amadioha. Tal vez alguien estaba siendo juzgado, pero no sabía que en realidad alguien estaba siendo asesinado.

Después de una larga noche de truenos, al día siguiente recibimos la noticia de que dos personas estaban afectadas. Uno muerto y el otro gravemente herido, casi al borde de la muerte.

La razón de esto se debe a que el padre de los niños afectados, acudió al río a cargar el cuerpo sin vida del hijo de su hermano, sin realizar los rituales necesarios para apaciguar a la sirena que habita en el río.

Se dice que el muerto fue al río y tomó algo que era para la sirena. Algunas personas vinieron a hacer sacrificios en el río, después del sacrificio, rociaron dinero. Parte del dinero entró al río, mientras que otra quedó en el suelo. El muerto (cuando estaba vivo), después de cobrarles una tarifa por usar el río para sacrificar, fue y recogió el dinero que caía al suelo, además, entró al río para llevar el dinero que flotaba en él. Después de recoger el dinero, se fue a casa. A los pocos días volvió al río y así murió.

De hecho, me quedé sorprendido y estupefacto. Después del suceso, me negué a quedarme nuevamente en el pueblo. Empaqué mis cosas y regresé al lugar de donde vine.

Actualmente veo las cosas desde una perspectiva diferente. Ahora creo en la existencia de lo sobrenatural. No quiero tener nada que ver con ellos.
