Another hike I have been meaning to do for some time is Chimney Rock. It is located above the Lower Crooked Wild and Scenic River in Central Oregon. While it is a short hike, about 2.6 miles round trip, the first part of the journey is mostly up hill with a couple pretty steep spots. Hopefully I've got my @oldmans legs in good enough shape to make this. ๐Ÿ˜

crh-1.JPGLeaving the trail head my trusty Jeep is the only rig there so I should have the trail to myself heading up.

crh-4.JPGI quickly start to gain some elevation above the canyon floor.

crh-5.JPGMy last view of the river for awhile as I turn to head up the ravine to gain some more elevation.

crh-6.JPGMy target, Chimney Rock, is on the other side of that tall mesa.

crh-7.JPGI will have to continue up the ravine to gain enough elevation to reach the top of the mesa.

The wildflowers were a little sparse on this hike but still stood out on the desert landscape

crh-13.JPGThe rock formations were many and quite spectacular.

crh-14.JPGA look back down the trail where I came from. The plateau I need to reach still looks pretty high to this hiker with already tired legs. ๐Ÿ˜…

crh-15.JPGGetting closer.

crh-16.JPGMy first view of one of the Cascade Mountain Peaks. The top of Mt Bachelor in the distance.

crh-17.JPGAs I round the end of the ravine to start the last steep climb to the top of the mesa I find some 40-50 foot cliffs.

crh-22.JPGAfter a short steep ascent I'm pretty much done with the uphill part of the trek. A welcome bench gave me a place to sit and rest and enjoy a snack. And also enjoy the views of the river below and the Central Oregon Cascades in the distance.
