Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is from Ladies of Hive, so let's dive in.

Honestly, one of the most important responsibilities we have in life as a parent is to raise our children the right way. Yes, I’m not married yet, but I’ll mention some of the most important lessons that we should teach our children — the same lessons our parents and late grandmother taught us when we were young. There are some important lessons to teach them so that it will benefit them in the future. What we teach them when they’re young is what they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Even this morning, when my sister and I were having our regular morning devotion, she told me how important it is to raise our children well so that it will benefit them in the future, not knowing that I would come across this same topic today. She said the fastest way children can understand or learn what we are teaching them is when they are little. Children learn fast, and most times, even without teaching them, they learn by watching us. She’s right, when children are little, their brains are fast and fresh, so they easily learn what we teach them. That’s why it’s very important to guide them with love and the right values that will help them grow into good adults. I’ll mention some of the most important lessons.

First of all, I believe the most important lesson children should be taught is to be kind. The world we live in today is not good, but kindness makes a big difference. When we teach our children to be kind, to share what they have, to help others, and to speak nicely or tell the truth, they grow up to be caring towards people. That’s why we see some people being so kind and caring to us even without knowing us, it’s because that’s what they were taught when they were young. The truth is, being kind doesn’t take anything away from us; it only makes life better for everyone. If we are kind, we’ll see how people will love us, and through our kindness, opportunities will always come our way. One thing I’ve noticed is that when we’re having a bad day and a child smiles at us, honestly, we won’t even know when we will smile back at them. Children are naturally kind and friendly with people.

Secondly, honesty is another important lesson. I’ve seen so many children lie because they’re scared of their parents punishing them or getting into trouble. That’s why we have to show them that telling the truth is always the best thing to do. When they are taught to be honest, they’ll grow into trustworthy adults. The truth is, none of us like it when someone lies or hides things from us. That’s why honesty helps them build strong relationships and makes people respect them. Because if people know us as trustworthy persons, they will always believe in us — even when someone tries to frame us for something we didn’t do.

Thirdly, respect is also very important. We should teach our children about respect. Respect doesn’t just mean greeting elders; it also means treating people well, no matter their age or background. My parents taught my siblings and me that whenever elders are speaking, we should not interrupt them. And my sisters taught me that I should learn to listen to people’s opinions and value what they say. If we teach our children to be respectful, they will grow into adults that people admire. Other parents will use our child as a good example for their own children, so their kids can also walk in our child’s footsteps.

Furthermore, we should teach our children about hard work. Nowadays, many people want things to come easily without working for them, but that’s not how life works. There’s a saying that goes: No food for a lazy man. So, we need to teach our children that for them to achieve something good, they have to work for it. Some children will tell you they want to become doctors when you ask what they want to be in the future. For them to become doctors, they must work hard by studying seriously. The effort they put into studying hard is what will bring them the result of becoming what they desire.

However, there are a lot of important lessons we must teach our children, but I’ll stop with these few I’ve mentioned — though I want to add confidence to it. We must teach our children how to be confident because some children are not confident in themselves, and because of that, they can’t share their opinions or express their thoughts. So, our children must be taught how to believe in themselves.

In conclusion, the most important lessons we can teach our children are not just about reading and writing but about how to live as good humans in the future. Everything I’ve mentioned, if we teach them from an early age, means we’re preparing them to handle whatever comes their way with wisdom. Sometimes, we hear a child speak with so much wisdom as if they are an adult. That’s because the child’s parents have taught them the most important lessons they should know. As the saying goes: Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. If every child learns these lessons, they’ll become someone people are proud of and always praise.
