We, who are constantly out on the streets, can say that the location of this plaza is extremely strategic and is right next to another of the city’s most important plazas, Plaza Ayacucho; it also honors our Great Marshal Antonio Jose de Sucre. Miranda Square has been the epicenter of many sociocultural gatherings, hosting cultural events, craft fairs, and political and recreational activities.
But beyond that, it’s a space for both locals and visitors to enjoy, since we can spend time there at any time of day. There, we can be alone or with others; we can relax, chat, or simply meditate. Its design is unique; it’s very spacious and features abundant vegetation that provides plenty of shade. In short, for both residents and visitors, strolling through this plaza holds a special significance, as it allows them to engage with the daily life, history, and identity of our region.

Miranda Square is extremely spacious, has multiple entrances, and lacks defined internal walkways, so you can walk around its perimeter and through its interior without any problems. What is true, however, is that there is a sort of sidewalk made entirely of granite surrounding the square, which means the square itself is slightly elevated. The floor of this structure is made of polished granite, separated by joints.
In the center of the plaza, the pavement is made of a different material, which we’ll discuss in more detail later. As mentioned earlier, on one side we have Ayacucho square, on the other the Manzanares River, and across from the statue of Francisco de Miranda stands the theater named in honor of the famous folk artist Luis Mariano Rivera. Indeed, our state of Sucre is the birthplace of many illustrious figures.
During the visit and tour, we ventured further in and saw a pedestal made entirely of black marble and a plaque honoring the Venezuelan national hero. On top of this structure, we noticed the full-body bronze statue of Francisco de Miranda—an impressive statue that conveys all the courage and bravery of this iconic figure.
In the center of the plaza stands the jewel of this space: a fountain with very distinctive features. It is built on a washed-granite floor, separated by brown and beige grout lines; the border is also made of the same material. The small structure—a sort of basin that serves as the fountain’s central pillar—is located on both sides of the fountain; it features golden and white hues against a blue background.
The largest structure is a fountain display; at the bottom is a concrete circle, followed by the structure in two sizes, and at the top, we see concrete beads. Like the small fountain, the colors are gold and white. Honestly, it’s a unique design worth seeing.
The vegetation in the plaza is impressive and abundant. We see numerous concrete planters, spaced out along the plaza’s entrances; some are bare, while others are filled with lush grass and a variety of other plants. However, the square is dominated by tall trees, which are also very diverse, provide shade, and date back many years. Even when the sun is strong, people can enjoy this space, assured that the trees will protect them—an incredible natural lung.
Another important aspect that gave the plaza a special touch is the design of the benches. Here, you won’t find ordinary benches scattered throughout the plaza; on the contrary, the benches are part of the planter structure and serve to separate the planters from one another. They’re made of gray concrete and come in different sizes, depending on the distance between the planters. It’s truly a design that’s completely different from what you’re used to seeing in plazas; the predominant color in the plaza is gray.

The plaza is lit by colonial-style lampposts located within the plaza itself; it also features spotlights mounted on the trees surrounding the plaza. Nosotros que estamos de forma constante en la calle; podemos decir, que la ubicación de esta plaza es sumamente estratégica y está justamente al lado de otra de las más importantes plazas de la ciudad, como lo es la Plaza Ayacucho; igualmente haciendo honor a nuestro Gran Mariscal Antonio José de Sucre. La Plaza Miranda es sumamente amplia, cuenta con múltiples entradas y no posee caminerías internas definidas, por lo que puedes transitar por su perímetro e interior sin problemas. Lo que si es cierto, es que alrededor de la plaza hay como una especie de acera totalmente de granito, por lo que la plaza como tal está un poco elevada. El piso de esta estructura está construido en granito pulido, separados por juntas.
En la parte central de la plaza, el piso es de otro material y lo vamos a detallar en su momento. Como se dijo anteriormente; por un lado tenemos la Plaza Ayacucho, por otro el rio Manzanares y al frente de la estatua de Francisco de Miranda, tenemos el Teatro en honor al famoso cultor popular Luis Mariano Rivera. Y es que nuestro estado Sucre es cuna de muchos personajes ilustres.
Durante la visita y paseo; nos adentramos mucho más y observamos un pedestal totalmente elaborado en mármol de color negro y una placa en honor al Prócer venezolano. Sobre esta estructura, notamos la estatua de cuerpo entero de Francisco de Miranda construida en bronce; una estatua impresionante que denota todo el coraje y valentía de este personaje emblem ático.
En el centro de la plaza tenemos la joya de este espacio y es una fuente con características muy peculiares; la misma está construida sobre un piso de granito lavado, separado por juntas con colores marrones y beige; el borde también es del mismo material. La estructura pequeña, es una especie de pileta que es pilar fundamental de la fuente y está a ambos lados de la misma; cuenta con tonalidades doradas y blancas sobre un piso de color azul.
La estructura más grande es un espectáculo de fuente; en la parte inferior una circunferencia hecha en concreto, luego viene la estructura en dos tamaños y en la parte superior, observamos perlas de concreto. Al igual que la pileta pequeña; los colores son el dorado y el blanco. Sinceramente, un diseño único digno de presenciar.
La vegetación que alberga la plaza es impresionante y abundante. Observamos múltiples jardineras construidas en concreto, separadas por las entradas de acceso a la plaza; algunas sin gramas y otras con abundante grama, acompañadas de variada vegetación. Sin embargo; el predominio está presente con los árboles de gran altura, los cuales también son muy variados, proveen de sombra y datan de hace muchos años. Así exista mucho sol, las personas pueden estar en este espacio, con la garantía de que los árboles los van a proteger; un pulmón natural increíble.
Otro aspecto importante y que le dió un toque especial a la plaza, es el tema de los bancos. Aquí no vamos a encontrar bancos comunes por toda la plaza; al contrario, los bancos forman parte de la estructura de las jardineras y las separan una de otra. Son construidos en concreto de color gris y tienen dimensiones diferentes, dependiendo de la distancia en que se encuentren las jardineras. De verdad un diseño totalmente diferente, a lo que se acostumbra en las plazas; el color que predomina en la plaza es el gris.
Llegamos al final del recorrido, no sin antes hablar de la iluminación. La misma cuenta con iluminación a través de postes estilo colonial internos en la plaza; de igual manera, también cuenta con iluminación por medio de reflectores, colocados en los árboles que están alrededor de la plaza.
