It was already Father’s Day, and the plan was to celebrate it as a family, with plenty of food and lots of joy. To do so, we had to head to El Chalet de la Conserva, which is a bit far from Merito; you can get there by boat, car, or on foot. Some people went by car so they could bring everything they needed, but since I love enjoying the scenery and passing through the small villages along the way, I and some other family members decided to walk.
I really like it because, along the roadside, you can always see the wonderful sea, which is also part of the majestic Gulf of Cariaco. We have the sea on one side and, on the other, the mountain range that some people climb—but I must warn you that it’s a bit dangerous. Even more so during the rainy season, when flash floods make these mountains unstable. I won’t deny that I’ve climbed them myself, but always with great caution; now, let’s continue on our way, and you’ll witness paradise on earth—come on.

During the tour, as I mentioned earlier, it’s impossible not to marvel at the beauty of the sea. It’s crystal-clear, beautiful, and majestic; what I love is that these areas are very clean, and the locals take great care to keep them that way. When the streams run, they clean up as much as possible so the sea stays this wonderful. As I mentioned earlier, the peninsula features a vast mountain range dominated by semi-desert vegetation.
The main economic activity of the residents of this and many other towns on the Araya Peninsula is fishing. That is why, dotting the sea, we see the tools of their trade—boats of various sizes that set out to sea in search of a livelihood for their families. We cannot overlook the marvelous sky that covers the region—a majestic blue, with clouds strategically placed. Likewise, the sun is truly magical.
After enjoying the tour, we arrived at The Chalet at La Conserva. It’s a very spacious property, surrounded by a fence, and in the center, there’s a covered area for everyone to enjoy. The central structure is surrounded by a rustic-style wall built with stones quarried from the mountains themselves. You can stay overnight in this space, but you’ll need to let the owner know in advance so he can provide a generator, since there’s no electricity in this area.
It has a very spacious kitchen and a grill—which is great, because we love to eat, and that day was all about sancocho and little cocktails made with pepitonas, concha de perlas, and octopus, prepared by my brother-in-law. The idea was to have a good time, and that’s exactly what happened. Next to the little house, we have a sort of garden covered with grass and animal figurines, surrounded by a fence with a concrete top supported by balusters.
The chalet overlooks the sea at the far end of the property, and just behind the entrance, you’ll find part of the mountain range. If you want to have a good time with a refreshing swim, you can do so in the ocean or simply jump into the pool. There are two rustic-style pools at your disposal, and their edges are lined with stones quarried from the mountains. It’s worth noting that the water in the pools is saltwater, and there’s one for children and a deeper one for adults.
Although the predominant vegetation in the municipality is semi-desert, there are grasslands and several medium-sized trees within the area. This place truly is paradise on earth, and if you ever come to Mérito, a visit to The Chalet at La Conserva. is a must. Ya era el día del padre y la intención era celebrar este día en familia, con mucha comida y con mucha alegría. Para ello; debíamos trasladarnos hacia El Chalet de la Conserva, el cual queda algo alejado de Merito y para llegar allí, se puede hacer en bote, en carro o caminando. Algunos se fueron en carro para así llevar las cosas que se necesitaban, pero como a mí me encanta disfrutar del paisaje y pasar por los caseríos que quedan en el camino, mi persona y otros familiares nos fuimos caminando.
Me gusta mucho, porque a orillas del camino siempre está a la vista el maravilloso mar, que igualmente forma parte del magestuoso Golfo de Cariaco. Tenemos el mar por un lado y por el otro, el sistema montañoso que algunos suben, pero les digo que es algo peligroso. Más aún cuando en tiempos de lluvia, nacen quebradas que hacen inestable estas montañas. No niego que las he subido, pero siempre con mucho cuidado; ahora, seguimos nuestro camino y ustedes serán testigo del paraíso en la tierra, vamos.

Durante el recorrido, como dije antes es inevitable maravillarse con la belleza del mar. Es cristalino, hermoso e imponente; lo que me encanta es que son zonas muy limpias y de eso se encargan sus habitantes. Cuando salen las quebradas; ellos limpian lo mayormente posible para que el mar se mantenga así de maravilloso. Como dije antes; la península cuenta con un sistema montañoso enorme, donde predomina la vegetación semi desértica.
La actividad económica que mayormente practican los habitantes de este y muchos pueblos de la Península de Araya, es la pesca. Por ello; adornando el mar, vemos el instrumento de su trabajo, embarcaciones de diferentes tamaños que lanzan a la mar para la búsqueda del sustento familiar. No podemos dejar de lado, el maravilloso cielo que cubre la región, un azul magestuoso, con nubes ubicadas de forma estratégica. De igual manera, el sol es totalmente mágico.
Después de disfrutar el recorrido; llegamos a El Chalet de La Conserva. Un lugar con una estructura muy amplia, posee una cerca que lo resguarda; y en su parte central, observamos un espacio techado para el disfrute de todos los presentes. La estructura central está resguardada con un muro estilo rústico, fabricado en piedras extraídas de las mismas montañas. En este espacio uno se puede quedar a dormir, por lo que hay que avisar al dueño para que proporcione el generador de energía, ya que en este sector no hay servicio de electricidad.
Cuenta con una cocina muy amplia y una parrillera; cosa que es muy buena, porque nos encanga comer y este día, era día de sancocho y de coctelitos a base de pepitonas, concha de perlas y pulpo, elaborados de la mano de mi cuñado. La idea era pasarla bien y así ocurrió. Al lado de la casita; tenemos una especie de jardín cubierto de grama y adornos de animales, rodeada de una cerca en su parte superior construida en concreto, soporta por balaustres.
El Chalet; en la parte exterior del fondo, tiene el mar y detrás de la entrada, muy de cerca encontremos parte del sistema montañoso. Si deseas pasarla bien con un buen baño; lo puedes hacer en el mar o simplemente te lanzas a la piscina. Tienes a la disposición dos piscinas construidas de forma rústica y sus bordes contienen también piedras extraídas de las montañas. Es válido resaltar, que el agua contenida en las piscinas es salada y tienes una para niños y otra más profunda para adultos.
A pesar de que la vegetación predominante en el municipio es semi desértica; dentro de lugar, existen gramas y varios árboles de mediano tamaño. De verdad que este lugar es el paraíso en la tierra y si alguna vez vienes a Merito, la visita a El Chalet de La Conserva debe ser una obligación.
