Just a Few Steps from the Sea. Living in areas near the sea is incredibly refreshing, and it’s no secret that Venezuela’s geographic location is the envy of the world. Now, if we look more closely at the region, our state of Sucre has the privilege of having one of the world’s largest seas right on its doorstep—the Caribbean Sea—where, incredibly, in many areas, we can enjoy that magical union between the sky and the sea. It truly feels like a rewarding kind of magic, because in addition to having a magnificent sky and sea, we’re also enveloped by a warm sun that adds that special touch to the atmosphere.
But that’s not all we can tell you; we’re also fortunate to have two very large gulfs: on one side, the Gulf of Paria, and on the side we’re discussing—between the Araya Peninsula and our Cumana—the famous Gulf of Cariaco. It’s a deeply mysterious area—a mystery that many have tried to unravel without any success. And we’re located just a few steps from this gulf; we have the opportunity to stroll along its shores whenever we wish and enjoy an incredible marine world.
There are many areas where, when we’re there, our eyes deceive us and we think we’re in different places. We can see open shorelines with plenty of mangroves and others full of all kinds of rock formations, which serve perfectly as breakwaters. And the fact is, Cumana isn’t just a city in the east; Cumana is the “Firstborn of the Continent” at the gateway to the Caribbean Sea. This city is a paradise where the sea breeze and the scent of salt air prevail—not just during vacation seasons, but year-round, year after year. It’s an invitation that’s always open to anyone who wishes to visit us; because for us, this atmosphere is part of our daily lives. Come enjoy this experience and stroll along the shores of our seas.

As you stroll along this stretch of coastline in Cumana, it is a true delight to take in the refreshing scenery, where fishing is the predominant activity and keeps the local residents constantly on the move. It’s not just a fad or an economic activity; on the contrary, in our region, fishing is a tradition—a culture that has been passed down from generation to generation. Often, right on the shore, we can see fishermen alongside people who aren’t involved in this activity, hauling in their nets full of fish.
This experience is a true spectacle that many tourists have been able to enjoy—a memory they’ll carry in their minds and hearts forever. And how could you not have a wonderful time? We’re in the midst of an unparalleled paradise: open shores, trees right on the water’s edge, mountains in the distance, mangroves, and a sea that’s completely still—when the sea is like this, we say, “the sea is as flat as a plate.” Locals and visitors alike enjoy all this and more. What are you waiting for to experience it for yourself?

We move from a stretch of open shoreline to another where the shore is lined with rock formations, which, as I mentioned earlier, act as breakwaters when the sea is rough. In addition, we have the contrast of a somewhat clear blue sky and, on the other hand, the radiant sun reflecting fully off the sea. Likewise, behind the gulf, we can enjoy the imposing view of Sugar Loaf Mountain. Legend has it that the sea once covered the entire area and reached right up to the foot of this mountain; as a result, human habitation in that area was previously completely impossible.

We all know that living near the ocean presents certain environmental challenges; it’s no secret that corrosion is one of them. However, despite this situation, it’s worth the sacrifice—seeing the calm sea and the completely clear blue sky is a true spectacle. In this sense, these details can have a positive impact on our minds and emotions. Whether it’s morning, afternoon, or night, every moment offers an opportunity for life, for energy, for taking a stroll, and for chatting with family or friends. Generally speaking, being just a few steps from the ocean and enjoying it means disconnecting from stress and getting away from the stresses of everyday life.

The sky and sun in all their splendor—a combination that fills us with energy at all times. Beautiful shores and distant horizons, which always begin or end at one of our coasts. In short, living just steps from the sea isn’t just about enjoying pleasant experiences without any responsibility; on the contrary, enjoying these benefits must come with a unique responsibility that leads to ongoing environmental conservation. We are responsible for this ecosystem, and in this way, we set an example for those who visit us. Let’s enjoy our seas responsibly and share an experience that not everyone has the opportunity to enjoy; best regards, and see you soon.
