In our case, we continue touring the city to show you the places where you can enjoy a wide variety of activities. Romulo Gallegos Square offers a pleasant setting; the square is named in honor of the famous Venezuelan writer, educator, and politician, who was the first president elected in free elections. There are many squares named after illustrious Venezuelans, and here I’d like to highlight this one.
Now, the thing is that at this park, any of us can have a great time, and another thing I love is that every time I walk by, I always see lots of people doing maintenance—it’s a truly clean park, and you’ll see for yourselves below. It’s located between Montes Street and La Florida Street, and it’s very easy to get there because public transportation runs right in front of it.

As I said before, it’s very easy to get there, because all public transportation coming from the eastern part of the city has to pass right by the square. Now, if we take a closer look at Romulo Gallegos Square, we see that it is extremely spacious, as evidenced by its wide walkways. These pedestrian walkways form a large cross within the square, since they are long and run along each side of the structure.
They are made of concrete and form rectangles, thanks to the partitions built with bricks. Two colors are visible: one is natural, and the other has a red tint. Each walkway, starting from the ends, ends at a large central space where a pedestal once stood that supported the bust of Romulo Gallegos; the bust was stolen due to acts of vandalism but is currently in the process of being recovered.
The sidewalks are so wide that children often have fun riding their skateboards and bicycles there. As I said, we can go from one end to the other; for example, you enter on Montes Street and end up on La Florida Street, where you can see some old houses—and one of them, in fact, used to house a wine cellar called La Envidia; I really enjoyed the products they sold there and would eat them while sitting on the edge of the plaza.
The plaza features large planters, whose blue edging separates them from the walkways. Some sections of these planters are covered with grass, while others are filled with a variety of vegetation. Large trees dominate the scene; in addition to beautifying the entire plaza, they also provide us with their generous shade.
In some areas, sunlight filters through, though not very brightly, and that lends the plaza great beauty. The area looks very clean, and if you look closely, you’ll see someone performing maintenance; the community plays an important role in this.
You can definitely do just about anything here; you can simply chat, spend some time alone meditating, exercise, or just enjoy time with your children while they play all over the park. To that end, the park has numerous concrete benches; these benches have been recently repainted, as they had previously been vandalized by some people. You can find these benches all over the park, and most of them are shaded by large trees.
We couldn’t leave out the lighting—and in this plaza, it takes two forms: one consists of colonial-style lampposts within the plaza, and the other is provided by the LED lights mounted at the top of the lampposts surrounding the plaza. En nuestro caso; continuamos recorriendo la ciudad para mostrarle los lugares donde precisamente pueden realizar muchas actividades. Situación agradable se presenta en la Plaza Rómulo Gallegos; sitio que lleva ese nombre en honor al famoso escritor, educador y político venezolano, quien en su tiempo fue el primer Presidente electo en elecciones libres. Son muchas las plazas que llevan el nombre de ilustres venezolanos y aquí te ofrezco esta.
Ahora; la cuestión es que en esta plaza, cualquiera de nosotros puede pasarla muy bien y otra cosa que me encanta, es que cada vez que paso por allí, siempre veo a muchas personas haciendo mantenimiento, es un plaza verdaderamente limpia y ustedes lo van a comprobar a continuación. Se ubica entre la calle Montes y calle La Florida, es demasiado fácil llegar a ella, porque el transporte público pasa frente a la misma.

Como dije antes; para llegar a ella es muy fácil, porque todo el transporte público que viene desde el este de la ciudad, obligatoriamente pasa al lado de la plaza. Ahora; si nos adentramos en lo que es la Plaza Rómulo Gallegos, la misma posee unas dimensiones sumamente amplias y sus anchas caminerías demuestran este hecho. Estos espacios para el tránsito peatonal, forman una gran cruz dentro de la plaza; puesto que son largas y están presentes a cada lado de estructura.
Están construidas de concreto y forman rectángulos, gracias a las separaciones hechas con ladrillos. Se notan dos colores; uno de color natural y otros con pigmentación roja. Cada caminería que inicia desde los extremos, finaliza en un espacio central de gran amplitud, donde se localiza un pedestal que en su momento soportaba el busto de Rómulo Gallegos; busto que por actos vandálicos fue sustraído, sin embargo está en proceso de recuperación.
Las caminerías son tan amplias, que muchas veces los niños se divierten en sus patinetas y bicicletas. Como dije, podemos ir de un extremo a otro; por ejemplo, entras por la calle Montes y llegas a la calle La Florida, donde podemos observar algunas viviendas antiguas y precisamente una de ellas, en su momento albergaba una bodega llamada La Envidia; bastante disfruté de los productos que allí vendían y los consumía en los bordes de la plaza.
La plaza cuenta con grandes jardineras, cuyos brocales de color azul las separan de las caminerías. Algunos sectores de estas jardineras están cubiertos de grama y otros solo con variada vegetación. El predominio está presente con los árboles de gran tamaño, que además de adornar toda la plaza; también nos cubren con su gran sombra.
En algunas zonas se permite el paso de rayos solares, pero con poca magnitud y eso le da gran belleza a la plaza. Una zona que se ve muy limpia y justamente si detallan bien, podrán ver a una persona haciendo el mantenimiento; la comunidad juega un papel importante en ello.
Definitivamente, aquí podemos realizar cualquier actividad; sencillamente, puedes conversar, estar solo meditando, haciendo ejercicio o simplemente disfrutando de tus hijos, mientras ellos se divierten por todos los espacios. Para ello, la plaza cuenta con múltiples bancos construidos en concreto; éstos bancos han sido recientemente pintados, ya que anteriormente personas dañinas los habían maltratado. Estos bancos los puedes encontrar por toda la plaza y en su gran mayoría, están protegidos por los grandes árboles.
No podía faltar el punto de la iluminación y en esta plaza se presenta de dos formas; una a través de postes estilo colonial dentro de la plaza y la otra iluminación, se presenta por las luces led que están a lo alto de los postes ubicados alrededor de la plaza. Un sector bien iluminado es sinónimo de seguridad.
