After finishing university, John was posted to a different state for his NYSC. He was assigned to Destiny International Secondary School. Linda was going through some pain until John came into her life.
He didn't know anyone there, so it was quite difficult for him at first. Unfortunately, John was teaching JSS 1, and Linda happened to be in the same class. The students at Destiny International School were very rich, almost all of them.
After John had stayed there for a while, he became attached to the school and its environment. Linda had a dog at home, and she loved it very much because it was very close to her. She lived with her mother, while her father was a busy man who rarely had time for his daughter. Her mother also rarely made time for her. The dog, which she had named Prince, was the only one at home who was very close to her. One day, Prince accidentally went outside and was killed by a motorcyclist.
Linda was very worried and could not pay attention to her teacher in class. John understood her, so he decided to follow her home and ask her mother what had happened. Linda refused to tell him and simply cried. When John arrived at Linda's house, he asked her mother what had happened. Her mother was also crying, and John was confused.
Linda later woke up and said that Prince had been very close to her and that she loved him with all her heart. John understood that something terrible had happened and asked, “Oh, I’m sorry. Is it your uncle who died?” Linda replied, “No, it is Prince.” John was still confused because a person could also be named Prince, so he asked them to show him a picture. Linda took her phone and showed him a photograph. When he saw that Prince was a dog, he was surprised that they had been crying so much over a dog.
At first, John found it funny because he did not understand how important the dog was to Linda. However, after seeing everything Linda was going through, he understood. Whenever someone came to comfort Linda, she could not be consoled, but John had a way of comforting her that she found comforting. Whenever John came around, Linda would stop crying. Even her mother could not comfort her daughter because she was away at work.
Linda’s mother decided to offer John money to come every day and comfort Linda. She was very happy with John and thought he came to comfort Linda because he genuinely cared about her, not knowing that he and her mother had made an arrangement. After a while, Linda overheard her mother and John discussing the payment they had agreed on. Linda was heartbroken. She felt that no one genuinely loved her.
When Linda realised that her mother had stopped John from coming and had stopped paying him, she had no one to comfort her anymore. Her mother understood that Linda needed someone who would stand by her, so she began to build a closer relationship with her daughter. She made sure she knew what was happening at school and in every other aspect of Linda’s life. She also decided to take Linda to school and bring her back when school closed.
Linda was very happy because this was what she had been longing for.
