Just looking at the daily dining table, you can understand just how deep the relationship between Bengalis and fish is. Large fish like rui, katla, or hilsa are always present. But if the lunch menu includes a plate of hot rice with a small piece of fried fish, then there is no comparison to that satisfaction. Today's lunch plate had just such a nostalgic taste, which touched the heart. The attached picture is bound to make your mouth water. The small fish pieces, deep-fried in a pan, are sautéed in lots of onions, green chilies, a little turmeric powder, and pure mustard oil. Then its aroma fills half of the stomach. The combination of that tempting creamy gravy floating on the oil and the yellowish Avar puti fish is, in a word, extraordinary.

The first bite of roasted puti fish brought me back to my childhood days. The sweet taste of freshly caught puti fish from the canals, rills or ponds of rural Bengal is completely preserved in this dish. The delicious taste is perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the onion and the spiciness of the green chilies. The light crunchiness of the fish and the juicy blend of spices create an explosion of flavor in the mouth. Pure satisfaction In the crowd of big fish, this small fish has a different taste. With a slice of lemon and a little gravy, a plate of hot rice can be finished in no time. This is not just a simple curry. It is associated with the pull of mother's cooking and the ever-familiar emotion of Bengali. Whenever I touch such home-made and traditional food in my busy city life, my mind is filled with a strange peace. This simple but extraordinary fried fish made my whole day.
