Hi all, welcome back to my #running blog!
NN Marathon Rotterdam 2025 is approaching fast! In order to prepare myself I have to make sure my gear is still oke.

After Rotterdam 2024 I purchased 2 pairs of new shoes, but due to multiple running events I did not replace them in time. The 2 pair have a combined total of 2350 km on them. So the support they offer is mostly gone!

Today I went to a specialized feet medical store that focusses on marathon runners. Had great experience with them in previous years, both with advise as with customizing existing pairs when they did seem to cause issues.
My goal was twofold - I wanted advise on whether to use my carbon plate shoes (asics meta speed sky paris) for the marathon or use shoes that offer a bit more support. Plus I need starting replacing my shoes with new ones. So I wanted them to pick my pair and suggest which shoes to retire first.

After 30 min of video analyse we found my match. Going for the Saucony Omni for this season! Video clearly showed what shoes to replace first (which was different from expected as my other pair showed more visual damage).

On my carbon plate shoes I got brutally honest advice - I am not fast enough, too heavy and land my feet not good enough to use them for a serious race longer than 10 km. Doing so would result in cramping / injury. I should notice some benefits on short runs but for me on marathon distance it will reduce my performance haha. Glad I did a check on that! Better late than not at all right…

After getting the shoes I took them out for a short test run.

The fitting is very nice, light and comfortable while offering some small additional support on the inner side of my feet. They resemble a bit like my older new balance pair. Where I made the same adjustments with the shoelaces as I plan to do here (reduce pressure sides just below toes and heel locking them).

Going outside with a clear sky, sun and a low but comfortable temperature is a great lunch break!

Happy running!
