«Me recuerdas a Jein.

The Halloween Mask
Chapter one
"Call the police." A woman was screaming from the window of a faded house.
October had begun and with that month, the mysterious murders. People had called him 'The Mask Killer' as he always left behind an orange cloth mask with two holes and a smile painted with a marker.
"We have a 10:91, I repeat we have a 10:91, all units proceed to the crime scene," an officer was talking on the radio phone.
The area was quickly cordoned off, while the body was being lifted and the curious piled up behind the yellow caution tapes and commented on what had happened.
"I'm Detective Carry. I need a crime scene report and the evidence." A beautiful black-haired woman with a curvy body and blue eyes was beginning to examine the place.
"Detective Carry, we found this mask." The officer was showing the plastic bag.
"Very well, I want DNA analysis. There must be something in that mask." Carry was inspecting the mask closely.
"There is never anything. The tests always show negative personal genetic material." The officer was staring at Carry.
"We must do it, very soon the murderer will leave a footprint or a mark. Do as I tell you." The officer was running with the plastic bag through the crime scene.
Carry picked up her mobile phone and called her colleague.
"Anderson, we have a new murder."
"It was to be expected: this month, that damned killer starts acting up. We must prepare and be alert. I know you are just getting up to speed with this case, so have patience and visual acuity, every detail is extremely important. See you at the police station." Anderson was cutting the call.
"Hey, hey, I saw the killer." A drunk and smelly homeless man was approaching Carry.
The detective was looking disdainfully at the little man.
"Speak quickly."
"I was just standing there with my little bottle." The tramp was pointing his dirty finger towards the garbage dump. "The demon with an orange glow, took that woman and pierced her chest... He took out her heart... Hip, hip... You doesn't have a coin."
"What are you talking about, man, you're drunk and all you talk about is incoherence." Carry turned around and was walking away.
"Be careful... that demon... It is... dangerous... Hip... Hip..."
Carry glanced at the vagrant out of the corner of her eye and then walked away. After a few minutes, the detective arrived at the police station and saw Anderson sitting behind the honey-colored cedar desk, typing non-stop on the computer.
"Hey, Anderson, tell me what we got?" Carry was sitting on the wooden chair.
"There's not much, the paramedics say the woman suffered a cardiac arrest. There is no evidence of injuries, cuts, trauma, or anything like that. It's always the same with that case. A total enigma." Anderson was taking off his magnifying glasses. "That bastard has a disconcerting modus operandi."
"That's impossible, it must bring about death somehow. You do not think that it could be some chemical or substances that causes cardiac arrest, we must investigate on that side. Don't you think so?" Carry was placing the pencil to her crimson lips.
"I don't know, every year it's frustrating all this. We just have that damn orange mask and nothing else."
"I have a feeling we'll get him this year. A criminal cannot always escape the law." Carry was painting a gentle smile.
"You remind me of Jein. She did his best to capture the killer, but..." Anderson let out a melancholy sigh.
"What happened to her?" Carry was showing a lot of interest.
"She disappeared without a trace, on a night of rain and lightning. Jein received a suspicious call, informing her about an attack by the mask killer. Jein was obsessed with the case and I don't expect support. She came out quickly and told us to catch up with her. When we arrived at the "31 de Octubre" park, we found the victim and the mask, but nothing was heard from Jein again." Anderson put his hands behind his head and yawned.
"It's a very intriguing story." Carry was still running the pencil over her lips.
"And very sad, I always think about my partner Jein. I hope one day I will find out what happened to her." Anderson's expression showed sadness.
At that moment, the cell phone rang insistently. The soft electronic melody invaded the moment of silence after Anderson's last word. Carry's finger slid over the green icon, which moved delicately.
"Detective Carry, we have a 10:91, near the gas station at the north exit of the city and a 10:83 apparently the subject was loitering in the vicinity of the crime scene. We need the urgent presence of Detective Anderson and you. Apparently we found the killer of the mask, finally." The officer's voice sounded with a hint of joy.
"Very well, we left quickly for the place." Carry was busily getting up from the chair.
Anderson did the same, and the police sirens took the night, full of stars and with a full moon overhead, giving their bluish light to the vehicles, which looked like lightning running down the highway. Meanwhile, the homeless man was hanging around the police station, took off his dirty and smelly hood, raised his black eyes and painted a toothless smile.
