Finances have always been a difficult topic for me to discuss. Today, my finances look like it is moving in the right direction until I make a little decision that redirects my financial curve to start facing downwards.

I love to assist people even when I don’t have enough for myself, which has been one of the traits I long to work on; it gives me the most pleasure to do it, but the aftereffect is that my finances remain stagnant or sometimes fall below the curve.

One financial decision I can remember making was to stick to a budget for all my expenses. This will help me plan all that I have, plan out my expenses for the month and how I will be able to survive for the month, and also have enough to save.

The habit I have of trying to assist people when they ask for help sometimes makes them feel like I have more than I need, and whenever I say I don’t have, they look at it as though I don’t want to assist at the time.

People are selfish and entitled that they don’t care about how you survive, so long as they can get the needed help they want from you at the time.

People should be able to assist each other when they are in need. Sometimes I feel I have what I have at the moment someone meets me for help because God has given me that thing because he knows he was going to send that person to me at the time, and when I keep it for myself, I feel I was keeping it from God who has given it to me and not to the person who had come to me for assistance at the time.

Being able to decide every time to assist a person God has put in my life with the little he has given me. While I may feel that some people are selfish, self-centred and entitled, being able to give usually opens doors for me to get. Not making their attitude change me is something I will always be grateful for.

My best financial decision lately has been setting a budget to help others. I have a monthly amount I can afford to assist, and when it's exhausted, I simply say I don’t have it. Another thing I have come to do is to also different when it is a need and just a want. This will help me to grow and, at the same time, continue to be generous in the time to come.

Generosity doesn’t stop with financial assistance alone; it extends to time, advice, as well as emotional support. A person who wants only financial assistance from you and refuses other forms of help should not be counted worthy of your generosity.
