Revolver is the seventh studio album by English Rock band the Beatles, released on 5 August 1966, accompanied by the double A-side single "Eleanor Rigby" / "Yellow Submarine". It was recorded between 6 April and 21 June 1966. The album was released by Parlophone Record and Capitol Records. It was produced by George Martin. The album includes 14 tracks. "Revolver" was the Beatles' final recording project before their retirement as live performers. The album has been regarded one of the greatest and most innovative albums in the history of popular music.
Revolver was successful both commercially and critically. The Beatles were presented gold discs by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the album was recognized as a "million seller". It also became the second best-selling album of 1966 in the UK. Revolver topped the UK Record Retailer chart for seven weeks and the US Billboard Top LPs chart for six weeks. The album cover, designed by Klaus Voormann, won the 1967 Grammy Award for Best Album Cover, Graphic Arts. Additionally, the album was ranked first in the 1998 and 2000 editions of Colin Larkin's book All Time Top 1000 Albums, and third in the 2003 and 2012 editions of Rolling Stone magazine's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list. The Revolver is certified double platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and 5x platinum by The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Revolver wasn't The Beatles' best-selling album, but I think it was one of their best albums, maybe even their best. Revolver expanded the boundaries of pop music, revolutionizing standard practices in studio recording, inspiring the development of Psychedelic Rock, Progressive Rock, Electronica and world music. The album was the voice of free to pursue musical ideas and possibilities that would reshape rock forever. There are some really great songs on the Revolver album, if you haven't heard it before I highly recommend it. Frankly, all of their songs are great, but I can say that the ones I listened to the most on this album were "Tomorrow Never Knows", "Eleanor Rigby", and "Here, There and Everywhere".
