Flashdance: Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture is the soundtrack to the 1983 film Flashdance. Flashdance Movie tells the story of Alex Owens (Jennifer Beals), a welder and exotic dancer who dreams of becoming a professional ballerina. The soundtrack was released on April 11, 1983 by Casablanca Records. The album was recorded between 1981 and 1983. The album was produced by Giorgio Moroder, Pete Bellotte, Phil Ramone, Ronald Magness, Keith Olsen and Michael Sembello.
The movie Flashdance was released on April 15, 1983, and prior to its release, Irene Cara's song "Flashdance...What a Feeling" was released as a single in March 1983 to critical acclaim and remained at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks. The movie Flashdance was a surprise success despite having no star power and receiving negative reviews from critics, and the soundtrack sold out within days and the record company had to scramble to keep up with orders running into half a million copies. It can be said that the excellent marketing strategy of Flashdance distributor Paramount Pictures was also effective behind the commercial success. Paramount Pictures used the cable channel as a means of promoting films through music videos and advertising. It has also become the most important new marketing strategy for movie studios.
The Flashdance soundtrack was a huge commercial success worldwide, selling over 20 million copies, becoming one of the best-selling albums of all time. It was also certified six-time platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Its music garnered nine Grammy Award nominations, and won three, including the Album of the Year award given to all artists on the album. Irene Cara received critical acclaim for her song "Flashdance...What a Feeling", winning the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female, and both the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song with Giorgio Moroder and her co-lyricist, Keith Forsey. Additionally, all of the vocalists who released singles from the soundtrack album continued to work with the same producers for their debut albums. Both the movie Flashdance and its soundtrack were among the best of the 1980s, I can say that I especially liked the soundtrack more, although they were all great, I can say that my favorite among them was "Flashdance... What a Feeling".
Irene Cara - Flashdance... What A Feeling
When Irene Cara's powerful vocals are combined with the vibrant production, "Flashdance... What a Feeling" becomes an irresistibly perfect song. It's a timeless and motivational song that epitomizes the spirit of the 1980s.
Also, it's one of the lines I can't forget in the movie was Nick Hurley's (Michael Nouri) words, "Don't you understand? When you give up your dream, you die.". It's really very true, isn't it?
