No Jacket Required is the third studio album by English drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Collins, released on 8 February 1985 by Virgin Records in the United Kingdom and by Atlantic and Warner Music Group (WEA) internationally. The album was produced by Phil Collins and Hugh Padgham. The album features Helen Terry, Sting, Peter Gabriel as guest backing vocalists. Additionally, some songs, such as "Don't Lose My Number" and "Sussudio", were based around improvisation, and other songs, such as "Long Long Way to Go", had a political message.
No Jacket Required was a major commercial success worldwide and was received favourably by the majority of critics. It reached number one in the UK for five consecutive weeks and in the US for seven non-consecutive weeks. The album became the second best-selling album of 1985 in the UK, behind Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms. "One More Night", "Don't Lose My Number", "Sussudio" and "Take Me Home" were released as singles with corresponding music videos. All four songs became top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with "Sussudio" and "One More Night" also reaching number one. Additionally, all three singles released in the UK reached the top 20.
In 2001, No Jacket Required was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling 12 million copies in the United States. Additionally, the album achieved sales of more than 25 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. Additionally, the album is considered the 39th best-selling album worldwide.
The album won three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. Additionally, on the No Jacket Required World Tour, Phil Collins performed 85 concerts. Remixes of six songs from the album were released on the compilation 12"ers (1987). It was also among the ten albums nominated for the best British album of the last 30 years at the Brit Awards in 2010. Additionally, it was ranked #74 on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "Definitive 200" list. In 2016, a remastered deluxe edition was released with updated artwork and bonus tracks.

Moving through the No Jacket Required album, there's no denying that it's intrinsically '80s fare, but in 2023 the sound still manages to resonate with new audiences.
Even though 35 years have passed since the album's release, just 30 seconds into the album's opening track, "Sussudio," not only does the gloom dissipate, but the need to get up and dance is unstoppable. Frankly, this track was an energetic dance music with a distinct sound and vibe no one else was producing. In this song, Collins takes us back to a moment when he got us on the dance floor nearly as much as Michael Jackson did and was one of the ‘80s most important musical influences. it's an incredible recording where not one of its 263 seconds is wasted, with every element perfectly pitched for maximum effect.
