Are You Experienced is the debut studio album by Jimi Hendrix Experience, released on May 12, 1967 by Track Record. It was recorded between October 23, 1966 and April 4, 1967. The album was completed in 16 recording sessions at De Lane Lea Studios, CBS Studios and Olympic Studios in London. It was produced by Chas Chandler. The album consists of 11 tracks, the original UK and international edition length is 38 minutes 34 seconds, and the original North American edition length is 39 minutes 29 seconds.
Are You Experienced was a great success both commercially and critically. The album is widely regarded as one of the best albums of all time. The album quickly established a new direction in psychedelic and rock music as a whole, with Jimi Hendrix's innovative approach to songwriting and electric guitar playing being praised. Are You Experienced was ranked at the top of many album charts, especially the US and UK charts, and was cited as one of the best albums by many publications. Additionally, in 2005, the album was one of 50 recordings chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Even though Are You Experienced was released in 1967, I can say that I heard the songs on the album a lot even in the 90s, so it was a popular album even in the 90s. There are some really great songs on the album, but I'd say my favorite is "Purple Haze" because of Jimi Hendrix's incendiary guitar playing and the music.
