This blog is a personal journal of all the movies, Tv-Shows, & Games I consume during a year which enhances my overall experience. The ratings that I give are fully based on my personal preference and enjoyment at the time of watching and I'm writing spoiler-free reviews. The First Slam Dunk (6.9/10)

This movie is a story mainly how a younger brother tries to live up to his big brother who is a talented basketball player. I would say almost 80% of the movie takes place showing 1 basketball match when the younger brother is old and playing in the first team.

In most parts, the animations especially during the Basketball match were done very well and just for that it made the movie enjoyable and worth watching on a somewhat bigger screen. However I was left rather unimpressed by the story as it's basically one of those very generic sports movie that also tries to add some emotional ballage to it. Both things however didn't really do it for me. When it comes down to Sports movies, they really need to bring something extra or let the sport itself be not that important like Rush, Challengers, or F1 The Movie which I all enjoyed way more compared to The First Slam Dunk.

The problem I have with it is that the match which is 80% of the movie is just as cliché as you can imagine a fictional sports movie to be. A team takes a poor start, they get better in the match afterward only to had a bad period again where they get way behind and then they fight back with the obligatory injury inbetween and a buzzer beater win in the end. The emotional part kind of felt like it was put in there also because it had to be. All of this while the story feels like just a tool to make some really awesome animations.

At times, it really felt like Street Fighter animations and there was also 1 player on the teal who felt highly inspired by Dennis Rodman. Overall I have not too much to say about this movie aside from that it was well animated and that I kind of enjoyed watching it. At the same time it is not an anime that will stick in any way or shape to me similar to Look Back which I watched earlier this year. So also a 6.9/10.
