Happy Monday everybody. First day of Chinese New Year in 5 days and CNY eve will be in 4 days! This post will be for the battle mage secrets. The theme featured this week is Broken Arrows. For this ruleset, ranged unit can't be used and this also counts for dual type attacks like Drybone Raider. The title is just for fun because the archers can't be played so they are at the Chinese New Year party XD.

There are two main strategies for broken arrows. With ranged units being out of the picture, there's basically two choices melee and magic. One strategy is to go heavy magic. For this play, you want to focus on some magic manipulation like Thaddius, Immortalis or Grandmaster Rathe. These three summoners have great magic units to support. I would prioritize Immortalis though as this summoner is super solid in this ruleset.
Another strategy could be to go more heavy on melee units with opportunity and sneak. Personally, I like to go for the Kelya play which is more melee units with a Baajira and maybe Oshannus to counter the magic units. Tarsa, Quix and Astral Entity can also be used in this ruleset. It really depends on what element is available and what the other rulesets are if there's more than one ruleset.
Also since these strategies are pretty much known, it's best to figure out how to counter it by looking at magic and melee manipulation. Things like demoralize or silence, void armor etc would all work well in this ruleset.

The battle link can be found here. This battle was on my own account, Shawnnft. I had this battle in a brawl not too long ago. It was a 48 mana battle with broken arrows, target practice and up to eleven. The elements that were not available were the earth and dragon element. I did not have home advantage for this battle so I would lose if somehow it was a tie.

Summoner , Kelya - I chose Kelya to go for the heavy melee play. It would also give me access to Baakjira to tank the target practice damage from magic units.
First Position, Arkemis the Bear - Arkemis was my frontline tank. It's just a monster in mid-high mana battles. It's my go to tank and truly one of the best commons in the game at the moment that I even own a max GF one.
Second Position, Flying Squid - Flying Squid was mainly a melee dps with some bulk so it can be a good secondary tank. I also love the blind it gives which sometimes just solo carries the game with that 15% miss chance.
Third Position, Baakjira - Baakjira's purpose was to soak the magic damage if the opponent decided to go heavy magic.
Fourth Position, Kulu Mastermind - This unit was one of my carries. I love playing opportunity so it's purpose was to attack with my other opportunity units.
Fifth Position, Isgald Vorst - This main purpose for this unit was to follow up with my other opportunity units. This is probably the best gladius water card in my opinion. Unfortunately mine doesn't have piercing but it's still very solid for this battle.
Sixth Position, Deeplurker - This unit was my backline finisher. It has solid damage and comes with great poison for 1v1s as well as demoralize to reduce the opponent's melee units.

If you watched the battle, I stomped pretty hard. I was able to outdps my opponent. It took too long for my opponent to get through my Baakjira with their magic units. On top of that, their gladius card was only doing 1 damage to my Arkemis and as for chaos knight it's attack got reduced to smitherines with halving and demoralize. It also only had one damage but it could do two with the giant killer. So hopefully this battle was able to set an example for both the types of strategies. You can see one heavy magic play and one heavy melee play.

Actually, I'm totally all for broken arrows. I'm not the most fond of playing ranged units. I always get a bit sad when I get to that point where my last unit is a ranged unit and I just have to watch it die. Broken arrows is a fun ruleset where it's a game of do you want to go magic or go melee.

If you made it here, thank you so much for reading all the way to the end. I appreciate the support and I hope you learned something new! Do you also love playing in broken arrows ruleset?
