Last week, I shared about the the big update happening on April 2nd with the ranked rewards for Splinterlands. Now that we are a few days into the new change with the ranked rewards system, I want to share my thoughts on the changes.

We are getting double the SPS in battles before the update. I am loving the SPS rewards. I like how we don't have to pray anymore about getting them from chests as well as hitting a jackpot on them. It was really rare and I think I only had it once where I had like a big 4 digit sps reward from the chests. Normally it would be 1-2 digits.

I was surprisingly disappointed in the glints though. I thought that the team would have made it more fair for the rewards earned but it seems like the change made a huge nerf to rewards. Before this change, I could get like 8-10 rewards chests per day which each could have a chance for cards. The chance for cards was like 30% so let's use 9 as the average. That means I would have 3 cards + extra copies everyday and we times this by 5 days and that would be 15 cards not including the extra copies. Now for that same five days I played I got 37k glintz which would = about 15 cards as well. Now this looks fair but then you have to take into account that after every batch the cost for draws increase. This is a huge problem as before daily chests didn't have an increasing costs to purchase. I feel that is the flaw in the new system. So there's two things that need to happen. They need to just fix the costs for the shop or they need to increase the glints earned to make it more tone to what we were earning before this change.
I also found it funny that people complained how expensive potions were. Something that people complained getting before but now they probably wish they could get some at least for those that use them to open packs.
I would highly suggest waiting to see if the team makes any changes before spending in the shop. At the moment, I feel only merits are worth buying in the shop right now at least batch 1.

I'm slightly worried about where Splinterlands is going to. There's a lot of uncertainty and it's scary when I see in the chat about people quitting or they don't want to miss the bullrun so they want to sell. That's the beauty of web3 gaming though that you can sell your stuff when you quit.
I feel that Splinterlands keeps making changes to try to lock money into the game rather than let people dictate and have the money flow. It seems like the root cause could be the bots. We could just remove all bots from the game and then maybe the earning will be like crazy again because people will have to put the time in to play and earn. People won't feel like they are playing bots. To be transparent, I do bot as well but I wouldn't mind letting it go if it really helps the game. We've done a lot trying to keep it but can we try to let it go and see if that helps. If it doesn't we can always bring them back.
I feel bannign bots could allow us to remove the need for soulbound cards and the fact people can earn liquid money right away can attract more people to play the game. Splinterlands has lost the feeling of the good old days and it was already bad enough with the onboarding. There is a barrier to play with assets as well. People don't mind paying but to reach the pinnacle of top level play it will cost thousands of dollars. This isn't ideal to get a huge player base. I'm not sure what are the best solutions are but I hope the team comes up with a way to not only keep our current players but attract new players as well. I also feel Splinterlands should look to collab with web3 gaming communities and other web3 games. I see a bunch of AMAs and twitter spaces that help spread the game but mostly splinterlands only does townhalls? This is only for the current players and not for trying to get new players in. We also need more awareness into Splinterlands. Sorry for the long speech but I do have a lot of assets in Splinterlands but not as much as whales. I genuinely enjoy playing Splinterlands and I hope it can succeed.

Thank you for reading and supporting me. Are you also excited for this big change? Do share below how you feel in the comments!
