A lot of people can genuinely not want to do something but society won’t let them breathe easy. The pressure to join the crowd because you will be seen as the odd one out makes some of us reach for things we would naturally not give a f*ck about.

And the crowd always has a way of winning if you do not have the stamina to withstand bending to that pressure. It is seen in peoplewho probably don’t want to be married.

They are happy to be alone, maybe with their pets but society will always look for ways to rubbish their decisions. They won’t be invited to certain gatherings because their married friends do not want a situation whereby they hook up with their spouse.

Over here, women can’t rent apartments without landlords asking where their husband is. House owners always want a man present when they are giving the keys to the house.

Men are not left out.

Stay as old as you want and someone will be saying you are that old without a woman in your life because you probably have a bad attitude or some hidden psychological problems. Their friends will always make sure they are reminded they don't have a wife while drunk and probably thinking it is a funny comment.

It is not!

If I am not mistaken, even a political position requires one to be married. Older politicians will tell the younger men who are aiming for power, that a woman by their side makes them appeal to the masses. That image softens the narrative around them. How do you intend to rule any sector if you cannot hold a family down?

They can’t attend a wedding successfully without receiving bank ended comments about their relationship status. They can’t breathe easily because no matter where they turn, there will always be someone or a group of people telling them how they are supposed to live their lives.

I am not saying getting hitched together is wrong. No, but I have a feeling if marriage was as rosy as they claim to be, nobody will be forcing the next person to get married.

The way we are wired to hide anything we are doing that is working, if marriages are working, married people will keep a sealed lip over that institution.

But since it is not as rosy, why should they be the only ones experiencing the heartaches? They must recruit and initiate others into the service to spread the inconveniences.

Whether you like it or not, society will always say things when you do not behave like them. It is definitely up to you to pay attention or pretend you can’t hear them. It does not matter what you choose to do with your life, someone will talk. The best you can do is do you!
