This week's question is: Everyone knows that old saying... "The grass is always greener, on the other side of the fence". Meaning... just because it "looks" like someone has it better, doesn't mean they do. I am curious what this means, to you! Tell us how you could apply this mindset in your everyday lives!
La pregunta de esta semana es: Todo el mundo conoce ese viejo dicho... "La hierba siempre es más verde, al otro lado de la valla". Es decir... sólo porque "parece" que alguien lo tiene mejor, no significa que así sea. ¡Tengo curiosidad por saber qué significa esto para ti! ¡Cuéntanos cómo podrías aplicar esta mentalidad en tu vida diaria!
If there is something that I have learned over the years, it is that many times what we perceive as precious, perfect, brilliant, if you look at it closely and objectively, it is not. Here I want to make an analogy, and it is that of the peacock, because I think it is a very representative image of what I am explaining. A peacock is beautiful when seen from the front: Its perfect, multicolored feathers, its elegance, its beauty... however, when you see it from behind, you will see its bare ass, which is neither pretty nor elegant. The same thing happens with many people, especially when we see those human “peacocks”, who live in eternal self-promotion, saying how generous, perfect, brilliant and creative they are… I am sure that a small check of their “works”, their “achievements”, will show that everything is made of cardboard, everything is appearance, everything is a lie. That is why the German saying that says: “Tell me what you preach, and I will tell you what you lack” , is a maxim that should govern our lives. When faced with these types of beings, they are practically non-existent for me, because since they are not genuine, they do not deserve attention, time, or energy.
Si hay algo que he aprendido a lo largo de los años, es que muchas veces aquello que percibimos como precioso, perfecto, brillante, si lo miras de cerca y con objetividad, no lo es. Aquí quiero hacer una analogía, y es la del pavo real, pues creo que es una imagen muy representativa de lo que estoy explicando. Un pavo real es precioso al verlo de frente: Sus plumas perfectas, multicolores, su elegancia, su hermosura… sin embargo, cuando lo ves por detrás, le verás el culo pelado, lo cual no es bonito, ni elegante. Igual pasa con muchas personas, especialmente cuando vemos esos “pavos reales” humanos, que viven en una eterna autopromoción, diciendo lo generosos, perfectos, geniales y creativos que son… estoy segura que una pequeña revisión de sus “obras”, de sus “logros”, demostrará que todo es de cartón, todo de apariencia, todo de mentira. Por eso es que el refrán alemán que dice: “Dime de qué pregonas, y te diré de qué careces” , es una máxima que debería regir nuestras vidas. Ante ese tipo de seres, los obvio, son prácticamente inexistentes para mí, pues ya que no son genuinos, no merecen ni atención, ni tiempo, ni energía.
Now, there are authentic, genuine people, whose lawn, whose garden is beautiful, harmonious, and it is those people who I like to admire, because they are a source of inspiration, of motivation to be better every day. However, I have always thought, even from a very young age, that just as there are various flowers, plants and animals, and they are all important and valuable to nature; in the same way, there are different types of people, who are also very valuable to the world, because each one has their own function, even human “peacocks”, who have their own ecological niche and their function within the human ecosystem. Therefore, I have also believed it is unnecessary to be in an eternal competition to see who is better; of course, I am a human being and living in a world that has culturally educated us to be the better, at certain times I can fall into that false illusion of competing. Thank goodness it goes away quickly, hahahaha, and I dedicate myself to looking at my own lawn, my own plot of reality, and making it more beautiful and also admiring and being grateful for the blessings that the Universe sends me every day, such as, this beautiful thundering butterfly, and these delicious acerolas.
Ahora bien, hay personas auténticas, genuinas, cuyo césped, cuyo jardín es precioso, armónico, y son esas personas las que me gusta admirar, porque son fuente de inspiración, de motivación para ser cada día mejor. Sin embargo, siempre he pensado, incluso desde muy joven que, así como hay diversas flores, plantas y animales, y todos son importantes y valiosos para la naturaleza; de igual modo hay distintos tipos de personas, que también son muy valiosas para el mundo, pues cada quien tiene su propia función, incluso los “pavos reales” humanos, quienes tienen su propio nicho ecológico y su función dentro del ecosistema humano. Por tanto, también he creído innecesario estar en una competencia eterna a ver quién es mejor; claro, soy un ser humano y viviendo en un mundo que, culturalmente nos ha educado para ser mejores, en ciertos momentos puedo caer en esa falsa ilusión de competir. Menos mal se me pasa rápido, jajajajaja, y me dedico a mirar mi propio césped, mi propia parcela de realidad, y a hacerla más bonita y también a admirar y agradecer, las bendiciones que día a día el Universo me envía, como por ejemplo, esta bella mariposa tronadora, y estas deliciosas acerolas.
So, I believe that the wisest and healthiest thing for everyone, is to admire other people's grass with sincere affection, but always take care of and love your own grass, take care of watering it, pruning it, fertilizing it and keeping it always green, and from time to time visit the neighbor's garden, to share in harmony and peace. And constantly looking at what others are doing, comparing yourself with the rest, takes away the most valuable thing you have: Time.
Así pues, que creo que lo más sabio y lo más sano para cada quien, es admirar con sincero cariño el césped ajeno, pero siempre cuidar y amar el césped propio, ocuparse en regarlo, podarlo, abonarlo y mantenerlo siempre verde, y de vez en cuando, visitar el jardín del vecino, para compartir en armonía y paz. Y es que el estar a cada rato mirando lo que otros hacen, comparándote con el resto, te quita lo más valioso que tienes: Tiempo.
