The film adaptation of the loved and successful video game series is coming, and fans will be able to see the dangerous world of Pandora on the big screen. This sci fi action comedy is set to give fans of the games intense action with great comedy to boot with a cast of characters that is as large as their imagination. The transition from console to the big screen has not been that smooth, and the production experienced some difficulties on its way to the big screen.

On this article I go through certain aspects of the film just to give a preview of it along with some expectations, starting with the main cast and moving up to the production controversy, that there were a few although nothing critical. I also look up what other fans are expecting from it gathering a slight opinion of what fans and critics are saying as well as the possible themes or messages that can be deciphered from the story, and how this adaptation of the movie can be placed in the context of video game movies. Even as a fan of the game or just interested in this new sci fi movie, adaptations are not always easy to achieve and this is some what on the line of make it out but the comedy side I'm not so sure.

Other than that, Craig Mazin’s involvement became another bone of contention, when riginally Mazin was credited as a co writer for the show but he later denied ever being a part of the show, with this revelation made people start questioning the quality of the script and the direction of the adaptation.

The movie has been criticized for its casting saying that Kevin Hart and Cate Blanchett do not fit the characters’ personality and looks in the video game. Critics have also debated concerning the age difference of Blanchett and the generally younger Lilith character, but Hart’s comedic background has raised the question concerning his aptness in portraying the more serious Roland.

Viewers and critics are most concerned with the movie’s comedy element and that's where my skepticism lands too, the Borderlands series is infamous for its crass and frequently tasteless humor, and there is worry that the movie will either fall flat or will attempt to tone down the humor to appeal to the masses, such early reactions stating the film is "unfunny" only adds to such sentiments.

It is for this reason that some viewers may find the film as a critique of Hollywood for softening provocative and dark comic book properties for the masses. This has created debates on culture flattening where even characters and other aspects of media franchises are removed from their individuality to make them much more generic.

Unfortunately, the Borderlands movie stands in a rather uncomfortable position. The production has had many issues from creative differences to casting problems and the fans and critics are always in the dark about what is going to happen. Some expect it to surprise critics and deliver a good film, while others are disappointed.

I doubt the response to the movie can have huge consequences for future video game movies and might affect plans for a larger cinematic universe based on the game, whether it will manage to bridge the gap between hardcore fans and general audiences like me remains to be seen, but one thing is certain, its release is expected to be one of the biggest topics of discussion in not only the video game movie adaptations but the entire movie industry.

In conclusion, I'm not so excited for this movie, sadly Kevin Hart movies lately have not been performing the best, I would say its not him directly since we all know his job is to be as funny as possible and he is although this is probably a lot of weight on him trying to make the audience look at him different than just a man who makes people laugh all the time.
