Goal of the Birthday Initiative
The goal of this initiative is to look back on each of the birthdays we’ve celebrated and compile photos and special moments related to them.
For me personally, it’s helped me realize that I haven’t had as many celebrations as I thought, and now I must resolve to do everything I can to celebrate my life, since every year we turn another year older is a blessing—and even more so if we welcome it with health, peace, and love.
What Is a Birthday Celebration?
A celebration isn’t necessarily a lavish party attended by all your friends and family—hehehe, that’s just a figure of speech in my country; celebrating life can be any way you choose to mark your birthday, such as taking that trip you’ve been wanting to take, going to the beach, catching a movie, or visiting a spa, enjoying a special meal, or doing that activity you’ve been wanting to try for a while.
You can do it surrounded by your loved ones or on your own. What matters is the intention to celebrate the fact that you’re alive.
Sushi Cake
On my 43rd birthday, I decided to do something I’d never done before: try a new food, and I chose sushi, since I’d heard so much about it and read a lot about it on social media; my curiosity was killing me, and I needed to know what it tasted like so I could decide if it was as good as they said. The idea of trying a new dish on my birthday was excellent, and I think I’ll keep doing it in the future because I found it fun and it really stuck with me.
This time, I wanted to share the experience with two friends—a woman and a man—but I knew there was very little chance my male friend would be able to join me because of all his work commitments. So I celebrated just with my friend; we both chose a restaurant neither of us had been to before, one that was famous for celebrating birthdays with a sushi cake, during which the waiters sang “Happy Birthday.”
I’ve already written a review of that birthday with the best photos, so this time I’m just using these two that I hadn’t posted yet. In both pictures, you can see me enjoying the sushi—which is supposed to be the “cake” prepared by the sushi restaurant. To be honest, it was a lot of food, and my friend and I were full after just a few rolls; the good thing is that there were leftovers to take home, and my whole family got to try this dish for the first time, too.
There were several types of rolls; I liked some more than others, but they were all delicious. Doing this on my birthday was fun and rewarding, since it was like giving myself a gift without waiting for others to do it for me. I had a great time that day, took lots of photos, and enjoyed my celebration at the restaurant; even though it was several years ago, I still remember some of the details.
Final Reflection
I decided to repeat this ritual on every birthday: going out to try something new or doing something special; unfortunately, I didn’t fulfill my own wish, since financial resources are also needed to make dreams come true.
That was the last birthday I celebrated; four years have already passed since then. Time flies; we’ll see if, when I turn 48, the universe blesses me with something special that I can share. Thank you for joining me on this journey through birthday celebrations.

Propósito de la iniciativa de cumpleaños
Esta iniciativa tiene el propósito de recordar cada uno de los cumpleaños que hemos celebrado y recopilar fotos y momentos especiales en torno a él.
En lo personal me sirvió para darme cuenta de que no he tenido tantas celebraciones como creía y ahora debo darme a la tarea de hacer lo posible por celebrar mi vida, ya que cada año que cumplimos es una bendición y más si lo recibimos con salud, paz y amor.
¿Qué es una celebración de cumpleaños?
Una celebración no es necesariamente una fiesta con bombos y platillos donde acuden todos tus conocidos y familiares je, je, je esto es un decir en mi país, celebrar la vida puede ser cualquiera idea para conmemorar la fecha de tu cumpleaños, puede ser hacer un viaje que deseabas, ir a la playa, o darte un paseo al cine o a un Spa, comer un plato especial o hacer aquella actividad que querías desde hace tiempo.
Lo puedes hacer rodeado de tus seres queridos o en solitario. Lo que cuenta es la intención de celebrar que estás vivo.
Torta de sushi
En mi cumpleaños 43 decidí hacer algo que nunca había hecho, probar una comida nueva y escogí el sushi, ya que lo había escuchado y leído mucho en las redes sociales, la curiosidad me estaba matando y necesitaba saber su sabor para poder opinar si era tan bueno como decían. La idea de probar un plato nuevo en mi cumpleaños fue excelente y pienso que lo seguiré haciendo en el futuro porque me pareció divertida y quedo grabada en mi memoria.
Esta vez quise compartir mi experiencia con dos amigos, una mujer y un hombre, pero yo sabía que había muy poca posibilidad que mi amigo me acompañara por todos los compromisos laborales que tiene. Así que solo celebre con la amiga, ambas escogimos un restaurante que tampoco conocíamos y era popular por celebrar los cumpleaños con una torta de sushi en donde los meseros cantaban el Happy Birthday.
De este cumpleaños ya hice una reseña usando las mejores fotos por eso en esta ocasión solo uso estas dos que antes no había posteado. En ambas imágenes me pueden ver degustando el sushi con lo que se supone es la torta que hace el restaurante de sushi. Realmente era mucha comida y mi amiga y yo quedamos llenas con unas cuantos roles, lo bueno es que quedó para llevar a casa y toda mi familia también probó por primera vez este plato.
Teníamos varios tipos de roles, unos me gustaron más que otros, pero todos son sabrosos. Hacer esto es mi cumpleaños fue divertido y satisfactorio, pues fue como darme un regalo a mí misma sin esperar que los demás lo hicieran por mí. Este día la pasé genial me tomé muchas fotos y disfruté de mi celebración en el restaurante, aunque fue hace varios años aún recuerdo detalles.
Reflexión final
Quedé en repetir este ritual en cada cumpleaños, salir a comer algo nuevo o hacer algo especial, lamentablemente no cumplí con mi propio deseo, ya que también se necesita el recurso económico para cumplir los sueños.
Este fue mi último cumpleaños que celebré, de este ya han pasado 4 años. El tiempo pasa rápido, veremos si en mis 48 años el universo me bendice con algo especial que pueda compartir. Gracias por acompañarme en el recorrido de las celebraciones de cumpleaños.
