Hello, friends. Happy ‘Cartuday’. Today I want to write about my cat’s character and personality; I never thought I’d write anything about this – I’m definitely a Karen 😆.
Before Hermosú, I’ve had many cats throughout my life; they were all gifts and they were all males 🤔 – what a coincidence. Each of them had their own quirks and, at the same time, similarities; I honour them all and remember them fondly.
Hermosú came into my life in a different way: he turned up in my back garden one dark, cold and rainy night. He was a kitten just a few weeks old; he didn’t even have any teeth yet and was soaking wet, shivering amongst the plants. I don’t know how he got there or how long he’d been in that state. His origins are unknown to me, unlike those of all my previous cats.

Antes que Hermosú he tenido muchos gatos a lo largo de mi vida, todos han sido regalados y de sexo masculino 🤔 qué casualidad. Cada uno de ellos con su peculiaridad y a la vez con similitudes a todos los honro y los recuerdo con amor.
Hermosú llegó a mi vida de forma diferente, apareció en el patio de la casa en una noche oscura con mucha lluvia y frío, él era un bebé de algunas semanas ni siquiera tenía dientes y estaba empapado de agua temblando entre las platas. No sé como llegó allí ni cuanto tiempo paso en esas circunstancias. Su origen es desconocido para mí a diferencia de todos los gatos anteriores.
From a very young age, he displayed a level of independence and agility I’d never seen in other cats; he climbed the mamón tree — which is a large tree several metres tall — and started hunting anything that moved, even when he wasn’t hungry. His hunting instinct is insatiable and, in his first few months, he hardly slept at all, catching his prey both day and night.
He’s caught large mice, birds and insects, and last night I found him with a snake 😩😱 which at first I thought was a mouse because it was sticking out of his mouth, but when he let it go I saw it was like an earthworm; I went to kill it and realised it was a small snake. I took that prey away from him.
When he was a kitten, he had a run-in with some animal (I suspect it was another cat) which left him with a scratch that later turned into two huge abscesses, as I’ve already mentioned in the community. That didn’t stop him from being sociable and welcoming several cats into the house, which gives him the confidence to wander around the house as if they lived here too. I’ve seen him play with male cats older than him and with females.
Desde pequeño tuvo independencia y una agilidad que no había visto en otros gatos, se subió al árbol de mamón que es un árbol grande de varios metros y comenzó a cazar todo lo que se movía aunque no tuviera hambre. Su instinto cazador es insaciable y en sus primeros meses casi ni dormida atrapando sus presas de día y de noche.
Ha atrapado, cotejos grandes, pájaros, insectos, y anoche lo encontré con una culebra 😩😱 que al principio pensé que era un ratón porque le salía de su hocico, pero al soltar vi que era como una lombriz, fui a matarla y vi que era una culebra pequeña. Esta presa se la quité.
De chiquito tuvo un encuentro con algún animal (sospecho que fue otro gato) que le causó un rasguño y después se transformó en dos abscesos gigantes, que mencione en la comunidad. Eso no evitó que fuera sociable y recibiera en casa varios gatos que le da la confianza de pasearse por la casa como si vivieran aquí también. Lo he visto jugar con gatos machos mayores que él y hembras.
He’s been with us for 8 months now and looks all grown up; I know he’s happy at home, as he spends the day running about, climbing trees and hunting, but there are certain things about his character that are catching my attention.
Ever since he was a kitten, he’s been wary of strangers, and that’s fine; however, I think it’s a bit too much, because if we have visitors – especially someone who comes round several times – Hermosú runs off to hide and won’t let strangers see him. He’s also terrified of loud noises, such as car engines, buses, motorbikes and even aeroplanes; when they pass by, he stares in the direction they’re going and, when he hears the noise nearby, he runs off to hide. It’s the first time any of my cats has been so skittish.
I’ve noticed he no longer wants to leave the house; he prefers to stay inside and watch the other animals from under the fence; some cats come over and meow at him from there, and they greet each other by bumping paws. 😆😁. I don’t know if his nerves are stopping him from leaving the house, but he’s still just a kitten; what he does do is watch cartoons and jump on me when something catches his eye, like the day I put hairpins in my hair and he climbed onto my back in a flash to nibble at them.
Ya tiene 8 meses con nosotros y se ve grande, sé que es feliz en la casa, ya que pasa el día corriendo, subiendo a los árboles y cazando, pero hay cosas que me están llamando la atención sobre su carácter.
Desde pequeño se observa esquivó con los extraños y eso está bien; sin embargo, creo que es demasiado porque si tenemos visitas y alguna persona que vienen varias veces, Hermosú sale corriendo a esconderse, no se deja ver por extraños. También le tiene pánico a los ruidos fuertes como el motor de carros, autobuses, motos e incluso aviones, que cuando pasan se queda mirando en la dirección que va y cuando siente cerca el ruido corre a esconderse. Es la primera vez que alguno de mis gatos es así de nervioso.
Estoy observando que ya no tiene él impuso de salir de casa, prefiere quedarse adentro y mirar por debajo del portón a los otros animales, algunos gatos vienen y le maúllan por allí y se saludan con un choque de patas. 😆😁. No sé si los nervios lo están cohibiendo para salir fuera de casa, pero aún es un cachorro, lo que sí hace es mirar los dibujos animados y saltarme encima cuando algo le llama la atención, como el día que me puse pinzas en la cabeza se subió en mi espalda en un segundo para mordisquear las pinzas.
He’s getting more mischievous every day; he likes to tease his canine brother by biting his paws or stealing his bed. It’s clear he’s the king of the house, as even my mum lets him lie on top of the washing machine or on whichever chairs he fancies. He’s a ‘mingón’, as we say in my country to describe a spoilt child or animal who never leaves their carers’ side; I’m the only person in the house he seeks out and he always wants to be all over me – there are even nights when he sleeps on the windowsill in my bedroom 🙃.
In short, he’s skittish, wary, a hunter and affectionate towards me 😄. That’s the latest update on my little kitten. Blessings to you and your whole family.
Cada día se pone más oscuro, le gusta molestar a su hermano canino mordiéndole las patas o quitándole la cama. Está claro que él es el rey de la casa, ya que incluso mi mamá lo deja acostarse encima de la lavadora o en las sillas que él quiera. Esta mingon como decimos en mi país a un niño o animal que es consentido y no sale de encima de sus cuidadores, soy la única persona de la casa a quién busca y siempre quiere estar encima, incluso hay noches que duerme en la base de la ventana de mi habitación 🙃.
En conclusión es nervioso, desconfiado, cazador y cariñoso conmigo 😄. Esta ha sido la actualización de mi gatito, bendiciones para ti y toda tu familia.
