There are some very hectic days when you have to get up early just to keep up. On Friday, I went for the first time to buy something my mum and I’d been wanting for a while: a pack of nappies for my grandmother. I hadn’t bought them before because I didn’t have enough money, but once we’d managed to save up what we needed, I set off to another state to buy these nappies, which have good reviews.

We found out about this nappy distributor through a recommendation from an acquaintance, and I looked them up on social media; they seemed to be good quality and reasonably priced, so I set off early for that city, which was about two and a half hours away. It had been years since I’d last visited Los Teques, which is the capital of Miranda State – the state where I was born and lived until I was five.

This time, I saw the city in a different light; it struck me as a colonial-style town, packed with buildings and with little space for greenery, as I crossed avenues and walked along some streets, since the bus I took from the terminal to the centre dropped me off about five or six blocks from my destination, which gave me a chance to look around and take in the place. I realised that Plaza Bolívar is very small, but I didn’t take any photos because I was in a great hurry and, on the way back, I was very tired from the weight of the pack of nappies; I also noticed that the city is like a rollercoaster: there are lots of ups and downs, steep streets and others on a slope; if I lived here, my back wouldn’t be able to cope; the weather is still the same, with a pleasant coolness.

It wasn’t easy walking with such a heavy and bulky load: that’s 120 nappies which, in theory, should last my grandmother three months; having this amount at home takes one worry off my mind for several weeks. Whilst resting at the bus stop waiting for the bus back, I took some photos of the church and a house next to it; I thought that if I went back for another pack, I’d take photos of the square, the church and other places, but I don’t think I will: the nappies disappointed me a bit. When I got home, I took a photo of myself to compare the size, and I was absolutely knackered because I’d had to walk another three blocks from the bus stop to my house.

I arrived just at 1 pm, and in the afternoon I had guitar lessons from 2 pm to 4.45 pm. So I had lunch, had a shower and went to my lessons, but with tired arms; my shoulders and wrists were aching even more from the weight and from having carried the parcel. I told the teacher what I’d done that morning and how I was feeling, explaining that I’d come with the intention of just listening, as my hands aren’t up to playing the instrument, but the teacher ignored my comment and set me loads of exercises 😒😵‍💫😩 because he’s young, but has the temperament of an old man 😅.

I arrived 10 minutes late for the lesson, and the teacher was already seated with the blackboard ready and full of instructions, waiting; all four of my other classmates were absent and I was the only one who had the lesson, which, in a way, is an advantage, because he explained it especially to me and I felt I made more progress than I would have in a group lesson. Before we said goodbye, I asked to have a photo with him and thanked him for his time and dedication; I recorded part of the lesson and, although I ended up feeling physically exhausted, I was really glad I’d gone.

All in all, getting out of the house and visiting new places is refreshing for my soul and my mind: seeing new streets, different people, solving problems and studying music fills me with a sense of peace. It was an exhausting, fun and productive day.
