Before I move on to my definition of a leader, let us examine what Google says about who a leader is:

From my search:

A leader is someone with a vision and the path to realizing it.

This statement, is what many leaders fail in actualizing. They focus more on the management aspect instead of the actual leading. When I say management aspect, what do I actually mean?

Most leaders are pressed on how much effort their employees put in to their work and therefore, lose focus on the changing environment and economy. They lose sight on whether the work input their employees are making, if it is what is actually what the company needs.

"There is a thing line between leadership and management"

Management focuses on doing the things right, it focus on how best you can accomplish a something while leadership, focuses on whether your efforts are on the right path.

This constitute to knowing your end goal first before moving on to how to achieve it.

The Principle of First & Second Creation

The principle of first and second creation applies to all things, and I want to explain what it means and how it relates to Leadership and Management.

Taking from my understand from the book written by Stephen R. Covey in "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People". The First Creation are principles or foundations that brings about the Second creation.

Take for example starting a business. If you want to start a business or an organization, you don't just move into any business of sort. You analyze your purpose and the product you want to sell, the market, your potential customers, the funds and everything needed to run the market.

This stage is what is called the "First Creation". It is after this that the Second Creation begins where you manage and run the business based on the plan made in the first creation.

How does this relate to Leadership and Management?

I think it should be clear now. Leadership acts as the First Creation as someone with a vision and the path to realising it While the Management acts as the methods to which goals and visions can be accomplished.
