WOO Strategy guide

Hello everyone!
As recently a bunch of new people joined the WOO Discord a question often asked is: how could I win more games?
As with plenty of stuff in life, there isn't a 100% correct answer to that, but I will try to give you a good start. There are several elements important to win more games. Firstly you need to understand the game, for me this is the most important aspect. You can have the best cards but if you don' t understand the game, than you'll still lose a significant amount of games. Secondly, you'll need cards. WOO is a play2earn game, which means you can earn something by playing their game. But to be able to do so, you'll have to invest in it. I'll come back to this point as well, but will first talk about understanding the game.

Understanding the game
As with every game you play, the first step is to get to know all rules and understand them completely. If you don't know the rules, it will be harder to play well. For WOO, the rules aren't that hard, there's a total cost of the match which let's you choose wrestlers and eventually a manager and you can play. Though, there are some mechanisms not everyone seems to be aware of.
A good place to start your journey of discovering WOO is the WOO Gitbook. I think nearly all information essential for a good start is in it. If you really want to know all the details of the official announcements, than head over to @wrestorgonline. It's the official account of the WOO team. Definitely check out its articles. Besides the official account, a lot of writers are blogging about WOO as well. Check out the WOO Community on Hive. As you probably already guessed, I am one of them. ;) Lastly there is the WOO Discord where WOO enthousiasts are often talking about WOO, strategy and where you can ask any question or just hang around.
I'll share some information in this article which I believe is really the most important: understanding the mechanics.
WOO mechanics

Rock, Paper, Scissors, but with more action.
Yes, WOO has some rock, paper & scissors mechanisms. In such a way that one type is resistant to another type, this way the types interact like in a triangle.
Wrestling Organization Online has 3 different wrestling styles for their wrestlers, which are the following:
- Powerhouse (broken bone symbol)
- High Flying (wings symbol)
- Technical (gear symbol)
For those unaware, you can find out the styles on the cards, I included their symbols between brackets in above list.
As an example, the following card has a 'wings' symbol on it, thus is a high flying wrestler.

These styles work in a rock/paper/scissors style of resistance where 1 style is resistant to another style. This resistance halves the damage done by a Wrestler (rounded up). This increases strategic play immensely and provides more depth to the game. The resistances are as follows:
- Technical is resistant to High Flying.
- High Flying is resistant to Powerhouse.
- Powerhouse is resistant to Technical.

Here is an example of how resistance works:
A Technical Wrestler with 2 damage connects with its Finisher on a High Flying Wrestler. The High Flying Wrestler takes 4 damage from the Finisher. 2 damage doubled due to the Finisher. This is done in full since there is no resistance.
A Technical Wrestler with 2 damage connects with its Finisher on a Powerhouse Wrestler. The Powerhouse Wrestler takes 2 damage from the Finisher. 2 damage doubled due to the Finisher, then halved due to resistance.
As you can see, it is essential for players to correctly determine which Wrestlers an opponent will use and attempt to counter their opponent's Wrestlers' styles.
This of course isn't that easy. As you never know which wrestler an opponent will choose. But by experience (and reading), you can make some calculated guesses.
Another hint I would give you is to write down the different wrestlers in a table and 'study' which wrestler has which style. This way, you atleast know the basics when you're playing. I did this and it really helped me to understand the mechanics and remember them correctly.

Owning cards
As you could consider WOO as a card trading game, it's obvious you'll need cards. As always, people's resources are limited, thus it's important to research which cards you could buy best. In what follows, I'll name some cards which I think are good to possess, especially as a beginner. Ofcourse this is just my personal opinion, do your own research to properly form your own strategy!
Must have cards

Jon Willow: This male wrestler is a must have, as he has high speed, he's always usefull, not too expensive to utilize in a game in terms of his cost. You could get this card from a WOOREWARDS pack or buy it straight from the market for +- $1.

Lexi Lawless is a legendary female wrestler. Personally, like Jon Willow is my go to male wrestler, she's my go to female wrestler. As she costs around $1, I have plenty of copies for the case she injures herself. Another option is to open WOOREWARDS packs and hope you receive her.

Upper Management is another legendary card, but this time, it's a tag team. He only has a cost of 4 which is the lowest possible cost ingame so far. Especially in low cost matches, he's really useful while still being rather strong. To buy this card, you'll need some more money as he's hovering around $10 but definitely worth it imo! This one could be pulled from a WOOALPHA pack if you're lucky.

Abby Rhoades is a common female wrestler found in WOOALPHA packs or could be bought for $0,10. Probably you're wondering why a common is in this list? She has a cost of 4 which is the lowest possible for the female wrestlers. Thus being another good option for low cost matches or to fill up the female match.

Arty Wright is another common wrestler, but a male one. As you can see, he only costs 5 and thus having the lowest cost from the male wrestlers. Once again good for low cost matches or filling up a male event. Could be bought for $0,10 or pulled from WOOALPHA packs.
Personal favorites

Bevin Brothers are the third possible wrestler you could pull from a WOOREWARDS pack. I would rather see them as a personal favorite than a must have. He's stronger than Upper Management but his cost to utilize him is way higher. He's thus great for those higher mana battles. Besides being lucky while opening WOOREWARDS packs, you could buy him for $1.

Muskh Sheik is a great counter to both Upper Management and Bevin Brothers as he's a powerhouse, thus taking only half the damage of above mentioned technical wrestlers. You could pull him from a WOOALPHA or buy for $0,15 which is a cheap alternative to for example Upper Management.

Akemi Ishii is another cheap alternative and counter of the common used Lexi Lawless. She's a common female powerhouse which could be pulled from WOOALPHA packs or bought for $0,10.

Ryker Voight is one of my personal favorites but not at level 1. So far I've only spoken about level 1 wrestlers as I aimed this guide at new people which aren't probably throwing hundreds of dollars in. But a max level Ryker Voight has a pin for his first and second attack, which I love! Could be pulled from WOOALPHA or bought for $0,10.

Perry Saturn is one of the strongest cards at the moment in my opinion. But to get him, you have to be incredibly lucky by opening a WOOSATURN pack (I thought it was 3%-4% chanche to pull him) or buy him for $30.

Pizza Baron is the only manager on this list. I didn't include managers in my must have's as you could play without. If the match has high enough mana, my go to manager will be a Pizza Baron which could heal your wrestler. He's the legendary manager which could be pulled from WOOREWARDS packs or bought for $5, which is definitely a steal in my opinion.
Conclusion
I hope you found this article useful. If you want WOO guides about certain topics, feel free to ask. Lastly, I want to say that all WOO cards have their usecases but I tried to make a selection / share my personal opinion.
Thanks for reading!

What is WOO?
WOO, aka Wrestling Organization Online is an upcoming play2earn game on the Hive blockchain about wrestling. They are bringing back territory wrestling, where the wrestlers are tradeable nft's. The game launched in 2024. It's an autobattler in the theme of wrestling. There are 3 undercard events and 1 main event. Winning an undercard event gives you 1 point and winning the main event gives you 2 points, so 5 points are what we're fighting for. There are wrestler NFT's and manager NFT's which gives bonuses to the wrestlers. When you win a game, you'll earn $WOO, the governance token of WOO, making it a real #play2earn game!
