Hello Hello Beer Lovers and Hivians!

Today we are to tell you a wee story!

Image from thread

Today before we proceed I am letting you know that this is a Beer post to celebrate The #beersaturday Challenge - Week 342!

Why a story?

The Challenge
It's very simple: share YOUR STORY about one of your favourite beer.

Yes this is the challenge.

So the story revolves around this liquid in this glass..

Not a lager!

Growing up my beer of choice was McEwans Export and I could drink by the truck full, I was never a lagar fan unless that was all there was.

I must admit I developed a taste over the years for your strong Belgian lagers.

However no lagers it we are talking about a darker beer and how it came up with it's name.

Some notes first

The beer in question is English, so the screenshot from their site should not get to me, but the Scot in me goes ah sdifjsidfji when it is England and not Britain. I mean it won't go well partnered with Welsh cheeses or Scottish cheeses!

Ok rant over, it was a tasty drink.

Abbot Ale

Yes we are talking about Abbot Ale from Greene King.

I said it was going to be a wee story.

So grab a beer or whatever tickles your fancy, pull up a chair and think what it was like back in 1951.

The head brewer in 1951 was a man by the name of Bernard Tickner and he was a bit of a tinkerer.

He came up with a new brew!

The brewery is in the English town of Bury St Edmunds.

Greene King decided to have a competition to name this brew. Up for grabs for being the winner was the princely sum of £20!

The winner, yes you guessed it, was Mr L F Whitehead from the King’s Arms, Haughley, Suffolk.

For our non British readers, The King's Arms was a common name for a pub.

Mr L F Whitehead was inspired by the famous Abbey which sits in the heart of the brewery's home town, Bury St Edmunds. He won £20 for his brilliance!

Cheers Mr Whitehead

I actually really enjoyed the beer.

How cool would it be to have a beer named after you?

And the fact it is still being drunk 73 years later!

That to me is fluffing cool!

This is my post for #beersaturday and The #beersaturday Challenge - Week 342 from @detlev in The BEER community.

This is #beersaturday week and I would like to invite @coquicoin to write a post in any language about beer with at least 3 pictures. Have you got a cheeky wee beer or two this week to share from Bogota @coquicoin ... ?

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!
