🇺🇸 ~ Do you remember A Matter of Life and Death?, an independent webcomic that could be found on Webtoom or Tapas, and unofficially translated into Spanish by fans on Facebook? AMOLAD, as it was affectionately abbreviated, had a massive fandom with millions of views.
Hoy hay muchas cosas que quiero decir pero hablar de AMOLAD es complicado: 1) Porque su final fue repentino, lo que causó todo tipo de opiniones entre los fans, 2) porque la manera en que se desenvolvió la historia tiene una relación muy profunda con la historia personal de la autora, 3) y también porque es imposible no empatizar con "The Snipster", con las razones por las que decidió no continuar "A Matter of Life and Death" a pesar de lo exitosa y amada que era esta historia.
Today there are many things I want to say but talking about AMOLAD is complicated: 1) Because its ending was sudden, which caused all kinds of opinions among fans, 2) because the way the story unfolded has a very deep relationship with the author's personal history, 3) and also because it is impossible not to empathize with "The Snipster", with the reasons why she decided not to continue "A Matter of Life and Death" despite how successful and loved this story was.
El último capítulo de AMOLAD fue publicado el 15 de Febrero de 2021 y como fan la noticia me cayó muy mal, tan mal que 4 años después no he superado ese vacío porque la historias dejo muchas cosas inconclusas, no solo la relación de los protagonistas sino dudas sobre ese universo en general, su funcionamiento y la premisa de los primeros capítulos, y si eres como yo que te gusta el "worldbuilding" entenderás lo que quiero decir.
The last chapter of AMOLAD was published on February 15, 2021. As a fan, I took the news very badly. Four years later, I still haven't overcome the void because the stories left many things unfinished. Not only was the relationship between the protagonists left unresolved, but there were also unanswered questions about the universe in general, how it operates, and the premise of the first chapters. Muchos autores con obras significativas y fandoms establecidos se han ido (en otro post hare una lista de ejemplos, para que lloremos juntos), es decir este no es un fenómeno único en su tipo aunque no menos lamentable, PERO, PEEEEEEERO el destino y la vida son misteriosos y hoy tenemos nueva obra de "The Snipster", sí, NUEVA OBRA, ASTRA.
Many significant authors with established fandoms are gone. In another post, I will make a list of examples so we can cry together. This is not a unique phenomenon, although it is still regrettable. De vez en cuando reviso perfiles de comics y fanfics en aparente hiatus, por nostalgia o para leerlos desde el principio y oh boi la sorpresa que me he llevado no es normal; ASTRA cuanta con 3 partes ya publicadas y sí, ya las leí, y sí, lo recomiendo.
From time to time, I check the profiles of comics and fanfiction that are apparently on hiatus. I do this either for nostalgia or to read them from the beginning. Oh boy, the surprise I got was not normal. ASTRA has three parts that have already been published, and yes, I have read them. I recommend it!
Entiendo que algunos amigos que siguieron fielmente AMOLAD por muchos años se sientan algo escépticos con esta nueva propuesta, pero creo que todos deberíamos darle una oportunidad, el dibujo es fantástico y tiene reminiscencias en estilo de AMOLAD, pero evidentemente la autora ha subido mucho su nivel. ¡De hecho es muy queria por el fandom de JoJo!, su cuenta en instagram tiene mucho arte asombroso.
I understand that some friends who have faithfully followed AMOLAD for many years are skeptical of this new proposal, but I think we should all give it a chance. The drawing is fantastic and reminiscent of AMOLAD's style, but evidently, the author's skill level has improved significantly. She is very popular in the JoJo fandom. Her Instagram account has a lot of amazing art.
Siempre voy a extrañar AMOLAD y a apreciarlo como lo que fue, personalmente no le tengo rencor a la autora y lejos de eso me alegra verla de vuelta con algo que sí la haga feliz.
I'll always miss AMOLAD and appreciate it for what it was. Personally, I don't hold a grudge against the author. In fact, I'm glad to see her back with something that makes her happy.
Estaré muy atenta a sus actualizaciones y es muy posible vean post de review de los capítulos de ASTRA, me emociona poder seguir esta historia desde el principio.
Y en cuanto a AMOLAD, trate de no hacer spoilers de la trama en este post pero la historia es tan INTRINCADA y con tantos detalles intensos, que la noticia del nuevo proyecto más ese viaje al pasado hubieran chocado demasiado.
Quédate conmigo y sígueme que muy posiblemente se viene un mega post full drama para recordar en mi opinion, a uno de los mejores webcomic que podras leer en tu vida.
I will be very attentive to ASTRA updates to write reviews of the chapters, I'm excited to be able to follow this story from the beginning.
And as for AMOLAD, I tried not to make spoilers of the plot in this post but the story is so INTRINCED and with so many intense details, that the news of the new project plus that trip to the past would have shocked too much.
Stay with me and follow me, I'll probably have a mega full drama post to remember in my opinion, one of the best webcomic you can read in your life.
