These two iconic characters were a creation of the 1990's from the mind of Mike Judge. He also created "King of the Hill" and wrote and directed the movie "Office Space" which I have featured in a previous post. Beavis and Butthead were on MTV from 1993 until 1997 and even had their own movie in "Beavis and Butthead Do America" in 1996. This pair of extremely stupid teenagers were a huge hit running for seven seasons. There was a reboot in 2011 and again in 2022. They were lovers of heavy metal and low brow humor. Love them or hate them they were a iconic part of the 1990's!

Part of the reason I chose these two slackers to start off today's Nineties Friday is because I am also a member of the Silver Gold Stackers. The images above are actually coins produced by the island paradise of Niue in 2023 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the show's debut on MTV. Each one of the coins is one ounce of solid silver and these two in particular were graded MS 70 by NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) that they are perfectly minted examples of the two coins.

Who ever would have thought that Beavis and Butthead would have their own coins?

Only one thousand of each of these were produced and sold out extremely quickly. I wish I would have know because I would have picked a few up because they were practically guaranteed to appreciate in value. Right now they range from around $120 (ungraded) to $500 (for perfect graded ones). These are two of the more bizarre coins I have ever seen which makes them really cool!

The movie that kicked off the franchise, this is where it all started. This film starred Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette among other famous names. It revolved around the "Ghostface" killer who likes to stab and cut us his victims. Out of the six Scream movies made this is the only one I saw, and it was entertaining horror flick. It is one of the best remembered horror films of the 1990's and worth watching at least once. Here is the original trailer for the 1996 film.

Now let's move onto some music from the 1990's!

Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkin formed in 1988 in Chicago, Illinois. In 1991 they released their album Gish, and they subsequently went on tour to open for Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N Roses, and Jane's Addiction. This was followed up by "Siamese Dream" in 1993. Leading off the album the second album was this cool song called "Cherub Rock":

Formed in San Diego, California in 1989 under the name Mighty Joe Young they changed their name when signed on with Atlantic Records. Their first album "Core" in 1992 was a huge success. Their song "Creep" came from this one! It was followed by "Purple" in 1994 that had one of my favorite songs by them, "interstate Love Song":

Soundgarden formed in 1984 in Seattle, Washington and were fronted by the late Chris Cornell. They were one of the earliest grunge bands signed to a record deal and helped popularize the grunge movement. Their first album wasn't a huge commercial success but there second "Louder Than Love" put them on the nation wide music scene in 1989. In 1991 with the release of "Badmotorfinger" they were selected to open Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion tour and the rest is history. From "Badmotorfinger" came today's selection, "Outshined".

That will wrap up this edition of #ninetiesfriday , I hope you enjoyed some or all of the material I selected today.
