Sunday mornings I usually like to spend sitting in my backyard enjoying the plants, trees, and the weather. Mother Nature has a sense of humor it seems, since it's been raining all morning and expected to rain all day. At least it's not as bad as up north in the San Francisco area with a huge storm system moving through. Stay dry @silversaver888 !

Today I decided it might be fun to share some more silver from the South Pacific. This comes from the islands known as Tokelau. It's composed of three atolls with a very small land area. It's a protectorate of New Zealand with a population of about 2,500. I picked this up mainly because I had never heard of the place before, and it was pure silver. I recall getting a really good price on it because of the oxidation.

Have a look, it's a nice one Troy ounce silver coin:

Not surprisingly this wasn't made it Tokelau, they contracted it to the Pressburg Mint in Bratislava, Slovakia. Again, another place I know very little about. There were 15,000 of these minted in proof like condition and sell for around $93 in perfect state, I'm not sure this one would get that dollar amount. Would I ever buy another coin from the islands? Probably not, I bought this more out of curiosity not having any idea of it's origins.

What do they have do offer in Tokelau? Fishing and natural beauty, both great reasons to visit. Will I ever make it there? I doubt it, but here are some beautiful pictures to help you escape those winter blues if you live in the northern hemisphere!

The silver markets continue to hang on around the $73 mark. Due to the overall supply shortages and industrial demands the price doesn't look like it will be going down any time soon. With the Chinese restriction on exports of silver it will cause price to go up down the road. There was a time when the US produced enough silver at home that it didn't have to import it, but mining restrictions over the last couple of decades have slowed mining to a crawl. Now that copper and silver have become national priorities mining will likely pick up, but it will take years to see a difference in the markets.

Refineries are also in short supply, most are in China. So yet another item likely to drive those prices up. Silver is a smart place to invest right now! Here's the chart on silver prices over the last year:

I expect silver to hit $100 in the near future, and it's something I never though I would see in my lifetime. It is exciting though! Invest in silver!
