Many years ago after my years wandering in South America and the Caribbean I lived for several years in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Being single it wasn't a bad place to live with a decent night life and great food. My girl friend loved to travel and explore as did I, so on most weekend we were off having a good time in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware... Just about anywhere we wanted. One of the trips that I recall being a lot of fun was our trip the Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Not only can you tour the chocolate factory, there is Hersheypark which is a theme park located nearby. With an array of rollercoasters and water rides you really can't do it all in a day! It's a fun trip for the whole family if you get a chance!
So why do I mention Hershey? Awhile back I picked up an interesting silver round from Hershey which reminded me of my trip. It was produced for the Hershey Coin Club Inc. in 1970. I really didn't know anything about it except that it's 99.9% silver which sold me on it, especially since it was at silver spot price. Have a look:

This particular round didn't photograph well so I ended up scanning it. The edge is lettered indicating purity and the manufacturer. From what I could find the Hershey Coin Club still meets on the third Monday of certain months and has a yearly coin show. This was a commemorative round from the show in 1970. It's in great shape for being 54 years old! Price wise I've seen them offered everywhere from $30 all the way up to $300, so I'm not really sure what it's worth. But it's one I won't be parting with!
The Chocolate Factory

Milton Hershey developed his chocolate formula in 1899 and started selling chocolate bars in 1900. By 1903 he started building his plant in Derry, Pennsylvania which later was changed to Hershey. Below is a picture of the plant after it was completed.

He wasn't content to just make one product, so soon after the Hershey Kiss was developed. Then Hershey's Syrup, Mr. Goodbar, and Krackel were added to the products they produced. Hershey passed away in 1945 but his company just kept growing. In 1963 they merged with Reese Candy Company and now the Reese's brand is their best selling product. It must have been fun to own a candy company!
Many upgrades later the entrance looks like this and offers tours. Some of the original structures look the same on the exterior but have been upgraded to top of the industry production facilities. It's a fun tour if you are ever in the area!

Hersheypark
My favorite attraction in Hershey is Hersheypark. Milton Hershey started the park as a form of recreation for his employees to keep morale high. Now it's a major theme park. Sadly the last time I went there was back in the day before smart phones. Additionally I was with my ex girlfriend at the time, and wives don't seem to like their husband holding onto pictures of their ex. Go figure... So I no longer have any of them.

I know the park and factory have nothing to do with the silver round except in name. But what could be more fun than a candy factory and theme park?
It appears there are yearly sliver rounds produced by the Hershey Coin Club, or at least there were. I'm not sure about currently. They do have a coin show coming up in May of this year if anyone is interested I put the link down in the references. I'm not planning on attending myself.
