For the longest time there was a period that I didn't play all that much in Splinterlands, except for the Brawls. That all changed once I discovered Frontier Mode, that is played with a very limited number of Foundations cards which you can get for free from Campaign Mode. I found it challenging as you really have so much less to work with, and even a lot more fun that I had in Wild. However, once I had collected enough upgraded Foundations cards I realized I was able to complete in Modern. And a new journey had begun...
I since have been playing Modern and finding it really enjoyable. I have been picking up as many Conclave reward cards as possible and they have made me more competitive. I also have been able to make some money off of card sales and flips which funded some Escalation card purchases making me able to push up into the Gold league. I just unlocked Gold II incidentally!

However, one particular legendary reward card has started to become very handy now that I was able to level it up to level two. Of course I'm talking about Kervik. When I first saw the card I didn't think much of it, but once I realized just how powerful it can become when leveled up, it changed my mind!

It's a four mana card, so relatively low, and starts with Sneak attack meaning it hits the opponent's last card on each attack. At level one it has three melee attack but that increases to four upon reaching level two and gains Camouflage. That means it can't be attacked by opposing units unless in the first position, unless of course the opponent has a card with Reveal detecting it. Then at level three it's attack increases to five and picks up Expose which is a great ability, best explained here:

And at level four it also picks up Tank Heal, a very nice feature. However, you will probably not be using it unless you're playing in Diamond or Champion. Overall, I really am enjoying using this card. It has great attack, but it's one big weakness is the low health and susceptibility to thorns. If you suspect thorns at the end of your opponent's team this isn't the card to use.
But at four mana, this is a great addition to my Modern water splinter team!

Now time to see the card in action, it even delivers a nice kill in this battle!
You can view the whole battle at this link here.

First off this is a battle in Modern with a nice mana cap of 58. The rulesets were Born Again meaning that when a monster dies it returns one time with full armor and one health and Blood Moon that gives all units Bloodlust. I have always happened to love Bloodlust, it's fun to have when it's working in your favor! It essentially gives monsters increased speed, health, and attack whenever they defeat an opposing monster. The screen shot you see above was taken after the buffs were applied but before the action has started.
I chose Marlai Singariel as my archon as she grants one addition magic attack unit to all magic monsters. For my tank tank I went with Doomshield Warden which gives my next card the Reach ability to attack from second position. I then used on of my favorites, the Blue Wyrm Travesty followed by Stampeding Calf which decreases the health of all opposing monsters by one. Next up I used Mindless Thrall followed by Captain Fellblade, and the tail end was Kervik.
My opponent chose Kaylia Silverleaf as archon that decreases magic attack of opposing monsters by one, and also allows the use of any elf bloodline cards in available splinters. As a bonus all elf team members get Execute granting them a second attack after a successful blow if the victim has two or less health remaining and finishes them off. It's a great card! As tank they chose Dire Bear followed by Dread Tafarian. Next up they brought in a Mindless Thrall and then Stonebind Matron with the Triage ability to partially heal members of the other backline units. To bring up the end the last two monsters were Anchor-Hex Adept and Husk of the Hunter. I was surprised to see the two Foundations cards in the front, they wouldn't have been my first choice. And for some reason didn't use any elf bloodline cards to take advantage of Execute.

The first kill went to Doomshield Warden!

And of course he got his Bloodlust!

But due to Born Again the Dire Bear returns one more time. It makes this battle a lot longer that it would be normally, but does give my team a lot more Bloodlust from the extra kills.

By round two this is where things stood.

Midway through round two my Kervik gets it's first kill and Bloodlust!

At the start of round three this is how things looked.

And round four, take note of the attack and speed of my first two cards due to Bloodlust, they have become unstoppable killing machines!

And the final deathblow is delivered by the lowly Stampeding Calf. Great game to my opponent! This battle really came out lopsided in my favor, and my primary and secondary tanks were the reason why. However, you can see how Kervik can come in handy dealing out some nice damage while remaining Camouflaged . It really is a great last position card, especially since it is low mana! I've been using this card a lot more ever since I was able to pull enough cards to upgrade it to level two.

Today I'm skipping pack openings as I've had no great ones recently. Maybe next post I'll have something interesting to share in that arena. But that will wrap up my post for this Saturday, and I do hope you enjoyed it. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and as always thank you so much for all of your support. It really is truly appreciated! Have a great weekend everyone!
