The time has come for the watermelon to start being picked! The first one up was ready to go with the vine basically falling off of it! It was an easy pick and has me excited that I am finally getting some good fruits of my labors around the farm!
This isn't a small melon either! It's got some pretty hefty weight to it and I am excited to get it into the kitchen to get cut up and put in the refrigerator, and more importantly, my belly!
It's great to know too that this will not be the only one! I have several others that are getting ready and several more blooms that are producing fruit buds! There are at least 4 that are getting to the picking point, I am just going to give them a bit more time on the vine before I get them. A couple of others need probably another couple of weeks.
At first slice, this thing looks absolutely beautiful! I am super excited that I now know that I can grow some nice looking melons! The biggest test is yet to come though...
I just had to break me off a nice slice of the melon to give is a go and let me tell you what, that stuff will make you want to slap yo momma! Really, don't do that, not a good idea, haha. But back to the melon, I couldn't be more proud!
Now it's time to get it all cut up and put in the fridge and we'll see how long it lasts... I can already tell you by the time of posting this, it won't be long, haha, I have already eaten about half of it since I cut it. But that's okay, because like I said before, there are quite a few melons growing and ripening up for the harvest!
