Monthly flea market
I don't even remember if I ended up writing about the monthly flea market in our area but if not, this is something we discovered thanks to a friend who told us. I never heard about it and surely couldn't find any info about it but that's not only due to my lack of knowledge where to find the information, it's mostly because often the info is shared on very unlogic sites or not shared at all. Sometimes it's in the name that makes it impossible for me to find information. Either way, a month ago we found out and I'm happy we now have some flea market strolling to do once a month on Sunday.
First visit
The first visit we had high hopes but we arrived a bit late. I ended up having a huge headache due to walking in the direct sun as well and therefore the visit was not really pleasant but at least it was nice to see how much of our art knowledge has stuck in our brains even though it was all consumed years ago.
Both of us could easily identify the reproduction while years ago, we would still doubt or struggle to find out. This strolling on the market brought up memories of our very stressful but on the other hand, exciting time. We tried everything we could to get out of the mess we were in, and even under high stress we apparently were able to actually learn something about how to identify valuable art and collectibles. Event though we didn't find a hidden gem the first visit, the spark that came back was a good feeling to have.
Bigger flea markets
Then we decide to check the two flea markets at the costa tropical, half an hour from each other more or less, but to get there, a 1 and a half hour drive. Now I'm surely not a fan of driving on the highway, especially not along the coast, I yet have to try that, lol. My boyfriend is my chauffeur and he hates it, he told me twice that I should drive too, but I refuse as I'm afraid that I will get overwhelmed by the sun or make a mistake somewhere because it's unknown territory for me.
I didn't expect my boyfriend to drive there the next week again, yet he mentioned on the Saturday evening shall we go again tomorrow? Get up at 7 and jump in the car? The first time we found good things for Christmas, some gifts for our daughter (I think I wrote about these) but also some smaller things for us. Not the hidden gems we were looking for but we're getting to know the market a bit better, it's all part of the journey.
Possible gems
We had a few doubtful moments where we almost bought something we thought could be worth something but as it was damaged, we eventually voted against it and let it slide. Looking back, we surely think clearly and leave the hopium behind. Back in the days we were desperately looking for a miracle and then you act differently, that's crystal clear to me now. It's all good though, although I'd love to find that hidden gem today, we are in the position to have some patience and I know it will come.
Yesterday it was that time again
The monthly market was held in our area so that meant getting up at 9 would give us enough time to get there, we got up around 8 to have a coffee and wake up calmly rather than rushing there. We drove there without expectations, my only goal was to dive into the boxes with coins to see if I could find some cool looking coins and maybe a few more of the Dutch Guilder ones.
Mommy daughter fun
While my boyfriend decided to stroll around the other market stands while I wanted to dig into a few boxes with coins sold by a friendly old man, my daughter was interested to help me dig for interesting ones. She caught quite a few Dutch guilders while I totally overlooked them myself. So while I was digging into the boxes with small stuff, she kept warning me "mom, look a Dutch one" and I then told her to put it aside until I could check which ones I'd buy.
She was really interested and even wanted to pay, haha. She has this wallet filled with coins and never spends them because we always pay, it was until we drove back that I realized I should probably just let her pay next time and let her have the coins as she wants to know how it feels. Every time I found a coin person, we were digging for things together. I told her these are the ones I would like to find, but only if they're from before this year and then she'd check it for me.

2 1/2 coins :)
I ended up buying 2 1/2 coins, I actually only found 2 that I wanted to buy but in the second box it was 2 for 1 euro and I could not find any that looked ok so I bought one with a hole in it thinking that could be a thing, lol. Hence the half coin. I saw 1945 on the peseta coin thinking hey, maybe that's worth something. I should have dug a bit better because I know now this coin has no holes lol. Oh well, live and learn :)
I yet have to find out if they could be worth something because they are definitely not bought having any knowledge about the value. But I like the fact that my daughter started to gain interest in the coins and helped me check the boxes for nice ones.
With this little find, at least I have a good reason to write some coin content in the next days again. Just need to get some other things out of the way first, today was very hectic.
Brattwurst and chipped tooth!
The picture in the header is a brattwurst with curry (good curry apparently) sauce as there is a German food truck selling them so we sit down for a snack before we make the final round on the market. To be honest, this guy has good stuff and even the fries are decent.
Sadly while eating there I found out a tooth was chipped as I thought there was some bone in the sausage, but then I felt something sharp just where my gums start and knew this was a part of my tooth, damn it. I was a bit panicking because I don't have great experiences with dentists the past years, but now that we're a day further, I can say that it doesn't hurt and that I still have to call for an appointment, so let's hope it will not be as bad as I thought it was yesterday.
Kicking myself in the butt to call them first thing tomorrow after I drop off the little one at school. I sure don't want to end up having toothaches again, thankfully it's been years since I had that so let's keep it that way!
All and all this final holiday weekend was one for the books, we had fun, we were more active and our little girl was a doll. What else would you want? Now it's back to the grind this week, have a good week ahead!
