Anyways, as title says. A dutch quarter was recently auctioned for over one fucking million dollars!
1891 Netherlands 25 Cents source
The coin was a tiny 1891 Netherlands 25 cents quarter, also known as a kwartje and jt shattered all past records at auction, selling for a whopping €1,045,000. That's $1,130,376 for my retarded American friends reading this post!
The previous record was below at €700.000 and belonged to an auctioned gold coin known as rosenobel, whatever the fuck that is.
The auction guys say they only expected it to go for around €300,000-€400,000, so things got a bit crazy.
"This coin was the cover piece for our catalog, but we expected a hammer price between €300.000 and €400.000. Nobody expected this world record" said Jacco Scheper, Managing Director of HA-Europe.
I guess somebody REALLY wanted to complete their Dutch coin collection, lmao.
So yeah. Fucking crazy. Over one million bucks for one fucking quarter! Crazy how we plebs suck whale dick post here for a few dollars while some rich fellas casually throw over a million bucks for an old coin 😂
