1 ounce of gold

I paid a visit today to my super secret crypt where I store the majority of my gold & silver.

Now, that's a place that is super secure that even myself have a hard time accessing, which makes it as safe as it can get when it comes to the safety of my treasures.

But it's also quite a nuisance, so I only go there once a month at best.

Anyways, I had a look at my golden pieces and figured they are about 0.4 kg in total weight, less in pure weight though, since most are 18k (75% purity). Unlike my silver which I have been stacking as diligently as I can over the last years, these treasures are mostly inherited family hair looms or gifts.

And then I wondered...Assuming all the gold was divided equally amongst the human population, how many would each person get? How would my small gold stack fair in that scenario?

Well, finding an answer was easy. Let's start with the basics, how much gold is out there:

About 244,000 metric tons of gold has been discovered to date (187,000 metric tons historically produced plus current underground reserves of 57,000 metric tons). Most of that gold has come from just three countries: China, Australia, and South Africa. The United States ranked fourth in gold production in 2016. source

Now, I am sure a good chunk of it is "locked", like for example in electronics where recovery can be a real bitch. But taking that number at face value, we have 244.000.000 kg of gold. Divided by 8 billion people that gives us

0.0305 kg per person

Or about an ounce

Definitely there's not really much out there, if everyone decided to go and buy some.

So yeah, I guess if you manage to stack one, just one oz of gold you are far far ahead compared to the average Joe. After all, most of it is locked by National banks and rich mofos. I also hear various countries like china, Poland and Russia are buying it like crazy these days...

In case you wonder, one ounce of gold is worth $2,040.64 as we speak. But hurry, doubt these prices will last for long. I hear a new wave of inflation is coming soon thanks to the Suez canal crisis ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

The number of container ships transiting through the Red Sea towards the Suez Canal tumbled 90 per cent year-on-year through the first week of January, as attacks from Yemeni Houthi rebels continue to disrupt one of the world's busiest trade routes.

So, tdlr. If all the gold ever mined was to be equally distributed amongst all humans, everyone would get about an oz.

Do you have one?
