As always, I like to take a guess what's the coin is about before doing any further research or reading the inscriptions.

This time I'll say it's about a painter as this old dude seems to be drawing or something...

Turns out I got close enough.. Although I got the old dude part 😂

This commemorative 10 mark piece was issued in 1992 for the 125th birthday of Käthe Kollwitz:

This is an artist I had never heard of before. Here's a super quick rundown of her life:

Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945), born in Königsberg, was a German artist best known for her works in printmaking, drawing, and sculpture. Her work was influenced by the socio-political turbulences of her time, like World War I and II. As a result, her art is often centered around themes like poverty, injustice, and the human condition. Her most famous art cycles, are The Weavers and The Peasant War. She was the first woman not only to be elected to the Prussian Academy of Arts but also to receive honorary professor status.

Anyways, Wikipedia has a great page on her if you want to learn more about her life and see some of her art.

Moving on the other side of the coin we have as always a unique design of the German imperial eagle

Engraved here we have the denomination (10 marks), mintage date and the words BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND for FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY.

The coin edge is engraved which is a nice bonus for coin lovers 🥳

It reads

ICH WILL WIRKEN IN DIESER ZEIT

Which translates to

I want to act in these times

The motto apparently encapsulates Käthe Kollwitz's artistic philosophy and her belief in the role of art as a force for social change during her time. At least that's what Chatgpt told me it does...which makes sense though considering the theme of her work :)

When it comes to silver, this piece weights 15.5 g, made of 0.625 purity. Or about 9.7 g of pure silver.
